The result is ALWAYS what's punished. Every single time.
Shoot a guy 9 times and if he survives you take an attempted murder rap. Punch a guy in anger and if he trips over his feet and hits his head and dies, you're gonna get tagged with involuntary manslaughter.
It's always the result that's punished. The actions can aggravate/mitigate, but ultimately the law looks at the result first.
