I've never had a lesson, but what helped me a lot was my neighbor took out his phone and shot a quick video of me hitting the ball off the fairway to the green. I never realized that my stance was the same width as when i'm hitting the driver. As soon as I narrowed my feet together, I got a lot more consistent hits with the irons.
