Rain Man 02-15-2020 12:09 AM

I remember the Oldsmobile illustration as well, but can't remember whose card it was. Bobby Bell?

Otis Taylor is correct. Thanks for the name of the lounge. "Flanker" is a term that seems to have disappeared from the NFL lexicon, but it was frequently used as Otis Taylor's position.

Not sure which question you are attaching to Conrad Dobler, but it was not my intended answer to any of the questions.

Rain Man 02-15-2020 12:58 AM

I'm guessing here, but I feel like the clarinet guy may have Marvin Upshaw, but that's just a guess. If not, then maybe it was a running back.

Marvin Upshaw would be a good name for a jazz musician. But not in this case.

kcgreene 02-15-2020 01:12 AM

Didn't Emmitt Thomas play the Clarinet? Could swear that I read something about him getting a scholarship to play clarinet...

Rain Man 02-15-2020 01:13 AM

Wendell Hayes on the clarinet?

I keep wanting to say Curtis McClinton, but I'm pretty sure I didn't have his card.

I'll go with Mo Moorman on the pancakes.

I have no idea but I cant even imagine 86 pancakes is possible. The belly would swell then to squeeze eggs and bacon on top. Whoever it was must have been miserable.

srvy 02-15-2020 01:40 AM

I know Willie Lanier and Jim Lynch also Bobby Bell did some broadcasting on weekends on KMBC TV but I dont know about radio.

Heh, sparked an ancient memory. Recall learning to run the flanker flag in the football section of 8th grade PE. Basically, when it was too cold to go outside, we learned on the chalkboard how to read play diagrams and identify positions, then we ran the plays when we got out on the field.

Relevant that this was PE, not rec league or even school-sponsored FB itself.

Since we were in school, we were supposed to 'learn stuff.' ;)

Plus, since every kid had to take it, you had to find stuff to do for kids who could barely tie their shoes, let alone run and jump and catch.

I’m going to say Mike Adamle out of Northwestern for the rushing question. He was one hell of a player in college.

Or maybe Jesse Haynes, although I don’t remember him getting injured. Come to think of it, I really don’t really much about him besides having a bunch of rushing yards at some local Division 2 school.

big nasty kcnut 02-15-2020 08:05 AM

First one was paul palmer!

gblowfish 02-15-2020 08:50 AM

Food thing is Ernie Ladd.
2nd leading rusher, just a guess: Ernie Ladd
1971 Radio, I'll guess Ed Podolak

gblowfish 02-15-2020 08:51 AM

Radio show question could be Hank Stram

I am going to give you Ernie Ladd, because he ate more pancakes even than the person I was thinking of in my question. The answer I was looking for was Buck Buchanan. I imagine it was a college fund raising thing in college.

No other winning answers have been provided yet.

Rain Man 02-15-2020 03:10 PM

I'm betting the radio show is a defensive guy since Dawson would have already been on. I'll go with Jim Lynch.

And one would expect the rusher to be Mike Garrett in that era.

SuperBowl4 02-15-2020 03:34 PM

Ed Podolak had the radio show. Ed Podolak had a playoff-record 350 TOTAL YARDS on 12/25/1971 against the Miami Dolphins in a over-time loss. 85 rushing, 110 receiving, and 155 in returns!!!

ChiefsCountry 02-15-2020 03:48 PM

Jim Otis is the rushing one I bet.

MahiMike 02-15-2020 04:08 PM

The Tank for RB?

cdcox 02-15-2020 06:03 PM

The RB was from a slightly later era. Different year card.

We are going to need to know his 100m dash times.

It's funny that I've never actually seen Ubeja answer a trivia question.

Rain Man 02-15-2020 06:25 PM

It could also be Jeff Kinney.

Keep in mind they ran 100 yards in his day.

so....

State had the guns to defend itself. Leading the speed was sophomore Halfback Woody Green, a 9.5 sprinter. And then there were 14 or 15—with that many, who counts?—others listed at 9.9 or faster, including two split ends, a few flankers, the entire secondary and enough running backs to fill a couple of relay teams.

Arizona State having....

Henry Carr Olympic 200m gold/9.3 Giants
J.D.Hill 9.3 Bills
Travis Williams 9.3 Packers/Rams
Ron Brown 10.06 Olympian Rams

Was the running back Joe Delaney?

And the radio show guy was Ed Budde, I bet.

cdcox 02-16-2020 09:00 PM

Hints:

When you hear the RBs name, a normal NFL fan would not remember them as primarily a Chief.

Radio show: Go through the people you know on the SB roster. Of those people he is one of the last people you would pick for a weekly radio show. I mean, how much does he have to say?

Well before Marcus Allen, but post SB.

Gene who? Not an obscure player, but how much do they have to say to warrant a weekly interview?

I would've thought his accent would've made him a less than ideal candidate, not to mention his position.
