Pretty sure the lung transplant happened a while back. My guess is things didn't work out as well as hoped. (But I could be wrong.)

Dr. Fever correctly pointed out to me that this is in the OP. In my haste and after posting an earlier inquiring thread I tuned in and just read the first part of the OP. Thanks Dr. Fever. It IS a little embarrassing but I am in a bit of a shock by the news. :(

Jim was the bomb and I frequently think of him and how much this place misses his presence. Sure, he was a strong willed, opinionated and gruff **** but he commanded and deserved respect.

They botched the first one and he recently went in for another transplanet and he got an infection and died unexpectantly.

I worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 9 years. Took care of many lung transplant patients. Never heard of a lung having an existing fungus/bacteria and placing it in a serious compromised patient anyway. Doesnt make sense.

Besides rejection of the lung, infection is the #1 cause of death from lung transplants.
