Gas plunged under $50 a barrel today as the US dollar keeps marching higher. Let's hope we see $40 or less soon

It's been interesting to watch fuel prices at the pump this season. Diesel continues to slide while unleaded stays put or rises a few cents a week. In this region, KC is actually one of the more expensive areas for unleaded, and in the past the opposite has been true.

Oh, our taxes are definitely out of control. Last time I looked, it was something like .70 cents per gallon. Hell, I had to pay $15 dollars to park at a public beach yesterday. $15 dollars, just for the privilege of parking.

But in this case, I think it's something more, as it was $3.83 at Costco Friday but no less than $4.29 anywhere else using the Gas Buddy app.

Yesterday, I saw it as high as $4.49.

Wow. Just wow!!!! I get the whole, "make them pay so much for their preferred option that your preferred option is better", but that's crazy.

One has to wonder why a deep-dive investigation hasn't been demanded to answer all those questions. Minimally this appears to be price gouging, but I'll bet the truth is even more gut-wrenching.

We're at $2.67 right now, down $0.10 in a week. It's possible, I suppose, but crude would need to get near $35.00/barrel to crack it, I think.

Senate panel passes bill lifting crude oil export ban

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/senate...173803190.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Senate panel has approved energy legislation that would lift the 40-year-old ban on crude oil exports and open some areas of the Outer Continental Shelf to oil and gas exploration.

Republican Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, chairman of the panel, championed the plan to lift the restrictions. It passed by a party-line vote of 12-10.

Murkowski said lifting the ban would turn the U.S. into an energy superpower.

Democrat Maria Cantwell of Washington, who opposes lifting the ban, describes the votes as an important first step in a long journey.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved an array of energy legislation on Thursday. Lawmakers wanted to move the energy legislation out of committee before the August recess.

I wouldn't think so. The supply wouldn't go up or down. It is what it is. This would just allow for our increased crude supply to actually enter the global market.

Gasoline is more closely tied to Brent than WTI simply because gasoline, and other petroleum products, can be exported and are therefor more closely tied to global supply/demand dynamics.

Right, and with our WTI suddenly being capable of being exported, I don't see why gasoline prices would go up at all.

I assume your politicians are doing the same here in missouri.

All extra money generated from smokes, alcohol, gambling and gas are supposed to go to into those funds. And they do, but then they take out the money originally marked for it and put it into the general fund. Then they can give that out to anyone else they want.

Education and roads will never get more than what they are slated in the budget. And the public does not care enough and allows it.
