With all the shelter at home stuff, thought I'd start a fun thread to help get our minds on better times. I am not a professional or high level amateur photographer, but I have taken some cool pictures over the years. If you've taken pictures that you're proud of, how bout posting a couple,and explaining what they are?

I'll Start:

St. Louis July 2003. I was staying downtown in that beer can shaped hotel by the arch. I got a call around midnight that my mom was taken to ICU in Arkansas, and was in bad shape. I got up at dawn as the sun was rising over the Mississippi river. I took this picture looking east. Went to the chapel in the center and said a prayer for my parents. Mom got out of ICU 66 days later.

Alley Springs, MO: From around 2002, near Eminence,MO.

Hotel Bothwell, Sedalia,MO. Shot at sundown in downtown Sedalia.

Desoto Sign, Carthage, MO. On a trip to Arkansas, took the scenic route 2018.

Missouri Hwy 13 Bridge, Lexington, MO: Looking north during the flood of 1993.

I actually climbed underneath the Deception Pass bridge in Washington state for this one. The wife was not amused, I think it was worth it.

Oh, fun. Nice photographs so far. That bugeater bridge at night is pretty amazing.

I'm not a good photographer, so my best photos are about interesting subjects. Here's a fun one that I took inside Abu Simbel in Egypt, and a picture of me standing between the Colossi of Memnon on that same trip. And another one of the Great Pyramid.

Ah hell, I'm not done yet. This is the Meridian bridge in Yankton, SD. It's two levels, originally designed for railroad on the lower level and vehicle traffic on the upper, but ended up just being used for vehicles for many years, one way on each level. It has since been replaced by a modern bridge nearby and is now converted to a pedestrian bridge.

Since we're posting bridge pictures, here's one that I took in South Korea long ago on a trip there. It was some "lover's bridge", but I don't remember the story.

And when I departed on my freighter a couple of years ago, we went under the Bay Bridge (second picture) and the Golden Gate Bridge (third picture - not a great picture, but it was dark). I took a deep breath going under the Golden Gate, because at that point I was committed for 19 nights and I still didn't really know what I was getting into. But it ended up being great.

Isn't the Bay Bridge the double decker that collapsed in several areas in the '88 earthquake? I don't recall it being a suspension bridge...has it been replaced?

Oh hell, that's the swing bridge in the foreground. We have a very similar one here that is now a historical landmark.

That is a cool pic, the creepy black cloud is a nice touch.

That was a few weeks ago. AZ rains are spectacular. This one was a really good soak.

I've only been to Phoenix once, and from what I saw, it was hard to believe it ever rained there...well...ever. lol

That's why it's spectacular. :)

Yeah - we were planning on heading out to our place to (hopefully) get our house finished, but the Wife decided it wasn't safe for me to travel tight now (immuno compromised). So, we'll have to wait for this crap to be lifted and over with - then we'll head out.

Wonder what he pays the neighbor kid to mow that thing.

I have a Gravely ZT HD with a 60 inch deck to handle the vast majority of the yard. The rest I have a neighbor who comes to get hay for his cows. He gets roughly 3 bales for him and one for me. It takes me about 3 hours to mow it including a path all the way around the property.

I plan on planting about 100 trees in the area that is currently being hayed and making it something of a forest with a clearing in the center to camp during the summer and set up a corn feeder in the winter.

Thanks... we really enjoy it. I don't feel at all cooped up during this "stay at home" order as I have quite a bit of elbow room.

Here is a baby pineapple from the Zen Garden right above Swami's Beach in Encinitas CA

A couple light houses in Michigan. The Red one is in Charlevoix and the other is the Old Mission Pt light on Grand Traverse Bay.

That part of North Central Arkansas is stunningly beautiful. I went there many times as a kid on my way to Hot Springs to see my grandparents.

Those are old photographs from 2001, as I went a few months before 9/11. It's an astounding place. There's amazing ancient stuff everywhere. Our guide wasn't even going to stop at the Colossi of Memnon because we were on our way somewhere else. I had to ask for a quick stop and photo op.

I remember being at Saqqara and we went up on a little rise, and you could see pyramids in both directions along the Nile. There are a lot of pyramids.

Yes it is. I can't find several of the better pics I took on that trip damnit.
