Star Wars: Episode IX

Welp, time to start the thread because LANDO IS BACK.

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/new...ing-episode-ix

Quote:

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the long-gestating rumors that Billy Dee Williams will return to that galaxy far, far away and will reprise his role of Lando Calrissian for next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX!

Williams made his debut as the gambling scoundrel in Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, reprising in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and in countless other Star Wars shows like Star Wars Rebels and games like Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast. He even voiced the character in various Robot Chicken and Family Guy episodes dedicated solely to Star Wars as well as The LEGO Movie. Donald Glover stepped into the role earlier this year to play a younger Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

In Episode IX, Williams joins returning franchise stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver, plus newcomer (and frequent J.J. Abrams collabroator) Keri Russell.

Cool. Let's see how they transform him into an unhappy shell of his former self like they did with the other Original Trilogy characters.

Christ, Billy D Williams is like 81 I think.

I'll give him this... black don't crack. He doesn't look nearly as old as the rest of the old cast.

Lando isn't about a certain look, anyway.

It's all about the attitude.

That's why Ford could pull off Han Solo at 70.

Billy Dee has even more charisma.

Bowser 07-09-2018 08:39 PM

Do NOT **** this up, JJ.

I find it hilarious that Kylo made it a point to urge Rey to "let it go" all while these ****ing execs won't bother to take the advice. Stop trying to shoehorn all of these old ass characters into the new trilogy. It's been like 50 ****ing years. Let it goooooo.

Is Rain Johnson involved?

Damage control.

Would have been better to have met him at the casino the last movie. At least that enite plot line would have had some payoff.

BigRichard 07-10-2018 06:46 AM

Great... one more iconic figure they can **** up. Yee haw!

Yeah, but that's my point.

Williams looks about 20 years younger than Ford does. I seriously had no idea he was so ****ing old.

They won't.

You guys have to understand that denigrating the classic characters wasn't an accident. There's a reason they did it, and a reason they won't do it to Williams.

Unless Lando has a large snake-like monster that he uses to eat his enemies while saying "Works every time." after said enemies are consumed I want not part of old man Lando.

No, dipshit, he didn't like it at first and then he changed his mind once he actually saw the film.

Luke isn't done with Star Wars, it's done with HIM, because HE'S DEAD. I'm sure he'll do voice work or something in the future.

He tried to do some PR work after his initial commmets but more recently he pretty much went back to his initial reaction that his character was qay off.. I posted a link in the other thread somewhere. He pretty much lost interest as much as most of the.fan base.

My gut tells me Lando is going to show up in this film to die. Everybody but Chewie has died, so why not? Oh, Chewie will also die. And R2/C3PO will finally find their ends in a trash compactor. Just to really yank on those "feels."

And Lando is in this so they retcon some story or mystery about him from which a spinoff film will be made so it can star Donald Glover, which, **** it, I'm fine with that. We should have had that instead of Solo.

Everything about how Luke died in TLJ and what I have seen/read about force ghosts says that Luke can return as one. I know that a lot of shit isn't canon now but:

Well, he did have the Journals of the Whills on Ach-To with him. Not much more to do there than to read and drink green tit milk from some weird slug, especially when you've renounced the Force (just how did he turn those Midichlroians off, anyway??).

The age range does not match up, unless Han somehow hooked up with her while he was married to Leia.

That's possible but doesn't match up with Rey's force capabilities/potential in terms of lineage/bloodline.

I'm out and done so I won't shit-talk the brand. What's the point?

I will admit to some curiosity in how you rebound from what Round head Rian did in TLJ. Just from the perspective of burning established cannon to the ground and having to take over from that. How do you pull that off?...

Easy. Pretend it didn’t happen.

Have Luke return and “fade in”
Have Snoke jump into a new clone body and proclaim himself Palpatine’s clone
Have Rey be the leader of the Force kids or Luke be her father
Have the resistance from the outer rim finally show up
Etc., etc., etc.

Whatever they do will be a lame band-aid necessitated by Rian Johnson’s terrible movie.

I'm not throwing stones I'm honestly asking. I know a ton of people who say "I want back in I just want Kennedy out and a return to what was before TLJ."

And I always ask "Ok, HOW would you do it?"

If it is pulled off that team deserves every award out there because they start off backed all the way into a corner. It'd be nearly impossible to back-track now...

Well, it is JJ Abrams, so we should all go ahead and get used to the idea of a third act redepmtion plot point ripoff.

I have no idea where they are going to go with this now, but I am assuming that they will make Ren into a near godlike Sith lord now- like Vader and the Emperor combined. This seems somewhat obvious to me when you consider everything that has been done so far. Vader's saber becomes Ren's weird-ass saber; Deathstar becomes Deathplanet; The Executor becomes The Supremacy. Super Shredder from TMNT2 would fit right into this movie and not seem out of place.

Obviously, Rey (of light in the darkness) wins against all odds; probably with the help of every force ghost ever... this includes all the murdered Jedi Younglings. Oh, and count on some kind of furry midget things or an entire Wookie planet.

The universe is broken, and they need to go backwards about 3000 years in time to give us some new untouched stories. 15 years or so from now they can redo the prequels.

Tribal Warfare 08-27-2018 12:49 AM

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, farm boy. Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova, and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't" - Han Solo

With this quote and the name Millennium Falcon a writer should be able to concoct a story arc that dictates time travel if you want to keep Rey and the connection of the original storyline to jump start the franchise for a course correct.

Though as stated before I'd rather have a clean reboot.

BigRichard 08-27-2018 07:44 AM

I probably won't be watching this in the theaters if at all.

IMO......
  • Luke is dead. Can't fix that. He can be there as a force ghost, but that's it.
  • Snoke is dead. Can't fix that, either. Move on. Kylo is the big bad in Ep. 9.
  • Rey's parentage: This one's easy to fix. Kylo told her her parents are no one because he knew that would hurt her. It's not true.
  • Not sure how they deal with Carrie Fisher's death, but I'mma be right pissed off if they kill her of screen. She should have died in TLJ instead of her Superman spacewalk.

I've got it. Episode 8 was a force vision. Episode 9 picks up with Luke blinking and Rey handing him his lightsaber.

Or Rey wakes up on the Millennium Falcon and finds Luke taking a shower, then realizes it was all a bad dream. :D

What was wrong with the last one? I thought it was entertaining.

I just don't see then making any major changes that would erase #8. I think the Star Wars goose has been cooked.

They for sure ruined a good franchise.

So much wrong with it, IMO. Just to start...
  • Porgs
  • Slowest space chase ever
  • Light speed through a Destroyer
  • Leia's space walkabout
  • Snoke
  • Rey's parentage
  • Rose's suicide mission to stop Finn's suicide mission
  • Luke Facetiming the final battle

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Someone's dream.

Could just start all over and have it be Rey's dream on the Falcon before she even meets Luke. So we can have a better response than just tossing the light saber over a cliff.

Oh. I suppose I should pay closer attention.
