CD Project Red is the new BioWare to me.

BioWare set a new bar in narrative SP experience with KOTOR and then raised it with Mass Effect 1.

CD Project Red set a new bar in open world SP narrative with Witcher 3 and is about to raise it with this masterpiece.

I can't ****ing wait.

ShiftyEyedWaterboy 06-10-2018 08:29 PM

Way too pretty for me. I love the overcast rainy dirty cyberpunk full of rampant ecological disasters, nations giving way to enormous multinationals, grime, etc. Its just one trailer, and its CD Projekt Red so I'll give it a chance, but it doesn't appear to be what I was hoping for so far. ****ing palm trees? Come on now.

William Gibson (the father of cyberpunk) summed my feelings up pretty well: "The trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 strikes me as GTA skinned-over with a generic 80s retro-future, but hey that's just me."

GloucesterChief 06-10-2018 08:37 PM

The gritty and grimy everything is grey and washed out cyberpunk aesthetic has been done to death.

I don't expect/want Blade Runner and constant darkness. It just looks too pretty to me from what we saw in the trailer. "Pretty" is most definitely not a major cyberpunk theme. But like I said, the trailer just shows a tiny fraction of the game world. It sounds like its gonna be massive.

Indian Chief 06-11-2018 05:52 PM

I'm interested enough to see where they go with this. I'm intrigued by the non-stereotypical cyberpunk environment.

Beef Supreme 06-12-2018 08:18 AM

I was familiar with the tabletop RPG this game is based on, and it's been on my radar since they announced it like 5 years ago. Kinda disappointed they still haven't said anything about a release date. Looks cool though. As far as looking too pretty .... why wouldn't there be palm trees? There hasn't been a nuke go off or anything. It's just a corporation controlled government with a large gap between the haves and the have nots. Which probably means lax environmental regulations with pollution getting out of hand, but it also means big leaps in innovation without a bunch of regulation. It's not the damn apocalypse. The game is a little more colorful than I would have maybe guessed, but the real world has color, and it's got a cool vibe.

Beef Supreme 06-12-2018 09:31 AM

I think one of the main reasons a few people are wierded out by the look of the game is they are showing it in daylight. Cyberpunk in books has had daytime, but in visual imagery, it is almost exclusively shown at night.

I was reading Cyberpunk back when it first started in the 80's, and Gibson is more or less the father of the genre, but frankly I liked some other authors better. But he does have a somewhat of a point about it giving off a GTA vibe. Mike Pondsmith is obviously on board with it, and I think it works. I'm looking forward to this game more than anything else I've seen. Just take my money and let me play it.

Wow. That's pretty spot on. No better way to describe it.

With that said, i'd love a GTA skinned-over with a generic 80's retro-future.

Yeah, I'm still pumped. I just hope the finished product doesn't look so clean. We're talking about a genre where there's basically no middle-class and multinationals abuse the environment. I'd expect that world to look a little dirtier. I'll reserve judgment until I've seen more. I'll probably love it either way.

I'm excited it will be first-person, too.

Exactly how I felt the moment I started watching it. Speaking of which, there should be a game developed as close to that movie as possible.
The movie plays out the way a good game should.
Very little of the plot would need to be changed to make it work...

I'm a huge CD Projekt Red fanboy and have been waiting for this game ever since I heard about it. The Witcher series are some of my favorite.

Having said all that, does anyone else feel like maybe the shooting and the animation feel... somehow... unsatisfying? Like there's not enough crunch or "oomph" to it. It's all kind of floaty and flimsy?

I don't need the crispiness and heft of something like MGS 5 or Doom but maybe somewhere in the middle? I may be crazy.

This gameplay trailer is somehow falling flat for me. :(

Cyberpunk 2077's character creation options won't be limited by gender

CD Projekt Red has given more details about Cyberpunk 2077's character creator and the game's depiction of transgender characters. This follows criticism over an in-game advert that uses a sexualised trans model to sell a drink with the slogan "Mix it up". It's the only depiction of trans characters we've seen so far, so it raised some red flags.

The ad's artist has defended it by saying it's an example of the sort of exploitation that's normal in Cyberpunk's world and exactly the sort of thing you're fighting against. It's context that would have been handy when CD Projekt Red first put it on display.

We've not seen much of the character creator, but apparently it will eventually give players more options to make a version of V that's more representative of themselves.

"It's a very sensitive and important subject I believe," quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz told Gamasutra. "We have put a lot of thought into this. One of the things we want to do in the final game (which we couldn't show in the demo yet, because as you mentioned it's a work in progress) is to give the players as many options of customization in the beginning of the game as we can."

This is something that CD Projekt Red "wants to do" rather than something that's currently implemented. An example of the options it wants to offer player is that they can sculpt V's face with physical traits that could be assigned to to any gender.

"The idea is to mix all of those up, to give them to the players, as they would like to build it," said Tomaszkiewicz "Same goes for the voice. We wanted to separate this out, so the players can choose it freely. This is something we are still working on, it's not as easy as it sounds."

CD Projekt Red is also "paying a lot of attention" to how it portrays trans characters beyond customisation options for V. "We do not want anyone to feel like we are neglecting this," said Tomaszkiewicz, "or treating it wrongly."

WTF?

I didn't like Witcher 2 at all, even though I played the first more than once. To the point that I could not make it out of the intro. So I never played 3, and don't ever intend to. Cyberpunk being from the makers of that series was not a point in its favor to me.

This looks awesome though. And I'm definitely ready for a deep, non-fantasy RPG.

I was the same way with Witcher 2, and quit in the exact same spot. Hated it. But seriously, Kyle, Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time. It's better than the Fallout games; it's better than Skyrim. You know how in the Bethesda games the main quest generally sucks and the world exploring and side stuff is far more interesting? In Witcher 3, everything is interesting. The voice acting and story are superb. The combat takes some getting used to, as does gathering components for crafting (which your character cannot do, since he's a witcher, not a blacksmith), but it's much better and more realistic. And the decisions you make absolutely affect the outcome of the story.

I cannot recommend Witcher 3 highly enough. Forget the second one. You're doing a disservice to yourself by not playing it. I built a brand new computer to specifically play Fallout 4, and ended up not starting it for a couple of weeks because I was too busy playing Witcher 3.

They do have Mike Pondsmith's source material. He's been pretty involved with development. I am kinda feeling this might be a letdown, though. Not sure why. I suppose I think people were just a little quick to crown CDPR king of the hill. I've heard rumors on youtube that some Bioware-esque stuff is going on with the company. "Bioware stuff" isn't just BioWare stuff, unfortunately. There are industry-wide problems with regards to the pressures and influences that publishers are putting on the studios under their particular umbrellas. Some places aren't as bad as others, but EA is just one of several corps doing it.

The original Deus Ex blew me away. I played that sucker every way one could play it. Over and over. The follow ups never really expanded on the original. This, from what I'm hearing, is Deus Ex on a grand scale. What we've seen is the standard intro/tutorial level. Then you are on your own.
