Star Wars: The Mandalorian

Jon Favreau is directing this live-action TV series.

Looks TIGHT.

Quote:

Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun!

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode.

Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for updates.

Wait this is for real?

Shit- I thought this was a still frame version of the sizzle reels of the supposed Neill Blomkamp / Peter Jackson HALO movie.

Hammock Parties 10-04-2018 10:00 PM

It's for real fam.

I'm guessing it's actually Boba Fett, they're just saving that for a big reveal at the end of season 1, with a flashback of him escaping the Sarlacc.

Drama!

You're probably right, but I hope not.

The prequels wrecked the already contrived mystique of Boba Fett.

Yeah: Mandalorian armor is cool as shit and their sigil is noteworthy enough Halsey has it tattooed on her arm.. but c'mon: the Boba Fett phenomenon is really outta left field..

Hammock Parties 10-04-2018 10:22 PM

Doesn't matter. Fanboys will eat it up.

Good to see this may not have main characters or obvious prequel like ties to the movies.

Yeah this has always confused me. Cool as shit armor but not much more or even signs of being competent at his job.

Also this brief synopsis makes this sound like a backwater planet Mandalorian western kinda thing which could be cool as hell.

He and Darth Maul are why Star Wars fans can be insufferable.

God dammit. I don't want Fett. I want something new that isn't tied to anything so they have more room to explore and create something fun and unique. For everytime the name Skywalker comes up I am going to punch myself in the dick.

The only negative - and this is a big one for me - is that Disney announced they're not following the Netflix binge release model for Disney+. New episodes of everything will be released weekly. So it's gonna take two months to watch this. I ****ing hate that.

But when I get Disney+, it'll be for this show. All the Marvel stuff is cool and all but this looks amazing.

I mean you could always watch other stuff for two months and binge this.

I agree it is a very different viewing experience. But I see where Disney is at they don’t want a bunch of our aged fools getting it for a weekend and cancelling Monday. At least this way if you sign up on the first day and keep it for 2 months you’ll at least have at using it for something else and seeing the value.

I get it. I’d probably do it too but you’re right it sucks.

It's actually not IG-88, it's a different IG droid, IG-11, played by Taika Waititi. Supposedly a pretty interesting character, if I remember what I've read, sort of a child-like assassin droid who has no idea of the morality of what he does.

it sounds dumb on the surface level but it is actually kind of promising. childlike droids are a very Lucas-y concept. R2 threw tantrums and screamed while c3po was a overgrown Fauntleroy

keg in kc 11-12-2019 11:40 AM

So I just read a gizmodo review for the first ep (of course I forgot to save the link...) and it sounds like the best thing ever. They basically said it was everything Lucas had ever wanted from a live action Star Wars show.

keg in kc 11-12-2019 11:45 AM

Here it is:
Quote:

The Mandalorian Is Here and Star Wars Will Never Be the Same

I’m sitting here on my couch having just watched a live-action Star Wars TV series and I still can’t believe it.

This was George Lucas’ dream. A Star Wars TV show that could stand up to the quality of his movies. But, in the past, it simply couldn’t be done. It was too expensive an idea. Now though, with the release of Disney+, not only can it be done, it has been done and Star Wars as we know it will never be the same.

Onto the show itself. Episode one of season one The Mandalorian.

Written and created by Jon Favreau and directed by Star Wars guru Dave Filoni in his first foray into live-action, the episode is not just our introduction to a new time period in Star Wars and a bunch of new characters, it’s a glimpse into what a live-action Star Wars TV show can be. And right off the bat it simply feels right. A little familiar. A little different. Unique, but still Star Wars. There’s no crawl. No big, boisterous musical piece to get things going. Instead, The Mandalorian just drops us off on a planet, with a character, and in about three minutes a giant water slug is biting on a spaceship.

You know. Star Wars shit.
Gets pretty spoiler heavy after that.

So can they just use The Mandalorian to retcon the shit out of everything that happened in TLJ?

Please? I'll get behind any kind of de-aging or digital imaging stuff to make fake Lukes. If you can please just have a world where Rose isn't a thing and Fin's character arc comes to an actual satisfying conclusion by sacrificing himself on PURPOSE instead of because he was ordered to.

Oh, and Luke isn't a shattered husk of himself who mostly just wants to die.

Can we please use this to fix that? I'll pay them LOTS of money for Disney+ if they can make me that promise.

After seeing The Mandalorian trailers and presuming it'll be as awesome as I think it will be....I wish they'd just make live action shows from here on out in the SW universe.

There are sooooo many stories and things you could do with a season or 2.

Let the movies sit for a long, long time.

Star Wars movies are on haitus after rise of skywalker until December of 2022 if I remember correctly, although I have no idea what that movie is. Kevin Feige is working on something, but that date probably isn't his movie. It's just Disney+ series between now and then as far as I know. There's the Diego Luna series set before Rogue One, there's the Obi Wan series and there's a second season of Mando. And then there's the final season of Clone Wars and whatever animated stuff they do after Resistance ends.
