Chiefs All-Decade Team - Outside Linebackers

With the end of the decade, it's time for us to select our all-decade team for the 2010s. Credit to Direckshun for the idea; I'm just implementing it.

Here are the rules:

1. I'll put up lists of position groups one at a time.

2. Each list will contain guys who had at least one notable stat line in their career. I'll generally put them in descending order of some key stat.

3. The stats will contain ONLY their body of work between 2010 and 2019 for the Chiefs. No pre-2010 stats and no stats for other teams.

4. The number of roster spots will be the same as the number of roster spots on the 2019 Super Bowl roster for the Chiefs.

5. You can use whatever criteria you want to select the team. It can be total stats for the decade, it can be dominance in a shorter period, it can be playmakers who didn't screw up badly, whatever. It's your call. Feel free to use any criteria not listed in your decision. For example, if you know that Terrance Copper was an amazing blocker, you can build that into your decision.

6. In a subsequent poll we will determine which players are the starters on the all-decade team. In the first round, you're just going to fill the 53-man roster.

Our next position group is outside linebackers. THREE outside linebackers will make the all-decade team. So pick THREE outside linebackers.

I beat the poll!

Wait a minute. Let me check.

You're right.

ThaVirus 02-15-2020 05:05 PM

Wow. This list is garbage. Do I have to vote for a fourth?

Rain Man 02-15-2020 05:08 PM

I'm noting that we always seem to have controversial figures near the top. We had Eric Berry at safety (and to a lesser extent Kendrick Lewis), we had Kareem Hunt at running back, and some might find Ford and Zombo painful to vote for given their various playoff key plays.

As for me, I'll go with Houston and Hali, obviously. My third one is really tough. I struggle to put Ford and Zombo on the team, even recognizing that Zombo was often misused. I guess I could go with Damien Wilson, but I think my choice will be the big-play guy, Andy Studebaker. I always thought there was more to Studebaker than we got to see.

One challenge with an all-decade team is that in a situation like this where you had two starters for most of the decade, the third guy may be a career backup.

And my non-vote for Dee Ford is actually less about the neutral zone penalty and more about his utter lack of run defense. I watched a replay of Super Bowl LIV last night, and I specifically watched Dee Ford on the go-ahead drive. He was completely useless other than getting a pass pressure on one play where he was left unblocked. The guy just has no football instincts.

Houston, Hali, Wilson

Only three for this group.

It's hard to tell from the roster which backups are OLB and which are ILB. I could've gone either way, but once I saw the list I decided to show some mercy and only go with three.

Rain Man 02-15-2020 05:15 PM

On a side note, Tamba was not good about getting his hands up, apparently. Or maybe he just always took an outside rush beyond the passing lanes.

smithandrew051 02-15-2020 05:31 PM

Wilson over Ford was a bit of a tough call for me. Ford was an elite speed rusher, but a liability in almost every other way.

Wilson might not be elite at any one thing, but he’s solid all around.

Zombo got blown up by Mariota with the game on the line in the playoffs, so **** that guy.

Didn’t Studebaker have a terrible game against the Tebow Broncos when Tebow only threw like twice? I feel like I remember him getting abused horribly on the edge in that one.

Megatron96 02-15-2020 05:32 PM

I voted for Studebaker, but only because he's a cousin of a good friend of mine, and he sent me a signed shirt and was a cool guy when I met him.

New World Order 02-15-2020 05:55 PM

If only Houston had Studebaker's heart.

I remember Studebaker making a couple of impressive interceptions, but they happened before 2010. I don't know about the Tebow thing.

TLO 02-15-2020 06:14 PM

Will not vote for Dee Ford. Can't do it.

TLO 02-15-2020 06:16 PM

I voted for Frank ****ing Zombo over Dee Ford. **** you Dee Ford.

Buehler445 02-15-2020 06:23 PM

Hali
Houston
Zombo
Wilson.

What a ****ing shitshow rodeo that Frank Mother****ing Zombo special teams ace is my pick.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to say **** Dee Ford.

loochy 02-15-2020 06:32 PM

I only vote for Houston and Hali. Everyone else sucks so bad that I cant bring myself to vote for any more...

Buehler445 02-15-2020 06:36 PM

Oops. Didn’t read directions

Easy 6 02-15-2020 06:39 PM

From a cold math perspective, just gonna take the first four

Wilson loses out due to brief length of service

Hali vs Houston’s numbers honestly come as a bit of a shock, didn’t expect to see such a huge difference... Houston amassed far greater numbers in a shorter time, wouldn’t have guessed that

Keep in mind that this only covers the 2010-2019 time period. Hali arrived before Houston back in the pre-2010 days so should have more stats.

Of course, Houston was so dogged with the knee injury that he missed time in the decade, too. So that makes a difference.

Boy, that drops off fast

He had alligator arms.

rabblerouser 02-15-2020 07:53 PM

What about the guys this year?

That won us the Super Bowl.

Wilson and Lee.

Them two, then Houston and Hali.

PurpleRiders51 02-15-2020 08:11 PM

Hali, Houston & Zombo.

Only picking 3.

KurtCobain 02-15-2020 09:40 PM

I can't wait for the punter poll.

RustShack 02-15-2020 10:21 PM

The sad part is that Hali, Houston, and Speaks(I voted Wilson as my third) would be DE’s in our current scheme.

Bump 02-15-2020 10:53 PM

Houston and Hali are obviously the guys that had all the sacks. Wilson for balling out and helping us win a Superbowl.

Rasputin 02-16-2020 08:09 AM

Justin Houston , Tamba Hali and write in Frankie's Mom.

Chiefspants 02-16-2020 01:40 PM

Houston, Tamba, and Wilson, who was a major unsung hero to this year’s team.

ILChief 02-16-2020 04:15 PM

I voted for Houston, Hali, and Wilson. Screw Dee Ford

PHOG 02-16-2020 06:06 PM

I can't fathom how ANYBODY could vote for DEE ****ING FORD. I MEAN THE MAN CAUSED US FROM BEING BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONS!

What a bunch of dumb shits! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Didn't you watch the game against the Cheatriots? The intercepted pass?

Whistle blows, flag throws?

I'm glad that piece of shit isn't on our team now, have you watched the replays of the SB?

80 Mil MY ASS

Damien Wilson has a SB ring>>>:hmmm:

Rain Man 02-17-2020 02:55 PM

Okay, the all-decade team is Hali, Houston, and (sigh) Ford.
