First of all, was the captain drunk? And was that bridge made from paper mache? Looks weak as piss.

Container ships weigh twice as much as an aircraft carrier. A little trestle commuter bridge has no chance. And the captain of the vessel is supposed to have the harbor, harbor currents, and shipping lanes memorized. This shit boggles the mind.

Spans float on the supports.

Here's a longer clip, looks like the ship losses power and regains it right before the impact.

Yeah a head on collision. Didn't even try to go left or right to avoid the collision.

That bridge is the only way to bypass Baltimore if you are traveling north or south.

Two survivors so far, one reportedly uninjured.

Wisconsin_Chief 03-26-2024 04:51 AM

This is downright crazy.

There seemed to be a lot more cars on the highway just before it hit, Dont see a lot of cars headlights on the bridge as it gets hit.

If that happened in rush hour.... been hundreds go into that freezing water if they survive the fall.

Jewish Rabbi 03-26-2024 05:07 AM

That’s my nightmare. I hate driving over long bridges like this.

cabletech94 03-26-2024 05:11 AM

Horrifying.

That's how I saw it too. Bridge was pretty clear of semi's and passenger vehicles, if not completely clear.

There were several times when vehicles started on to the bridge, and I was thinking "oh shit, they are not going to make it"!

Hopefully the construction crew numbers were low.
