When it's over we may have had the best player in history. Not just QB.

I've been saying it since the SB.

I think Mahomes may be the best all-around athlete on the planet, taking into consideration both his on-the-field and off-the-field accomplishments.

He's easily the best QB in the NFL but his talent transcends both his position and his league, IMO.

The TD pass was just as crazy. He couldn't have handed it to Kelce more accurately. I kind of hate how we've normalized his insanity.

Buehler445 08-23-2023 07:59 PM

That throw to Watson is otherworldly. Most other QBs, that would be the best ball they've ever thrown. All but maybe 20 dudes would be their top 5 throws ever.

It probably doesn't hit Mahomes Top 100. He's the best there's ever been.

I was just laughing thinking that roll right throw back across to Kelce in the first gif seems like just a ho hum ordinary play now. LMAO

Agreed. Very underrated throw and absolutely perfect ball placement. Defender had zero chance with it.

I'm not sure there's another quarterback that makes this play. So many little things happen here that are just innate abilities and feel.

At this most critical point in the game:

- makes a quick decision to speed up once the defender pursues him (setting up his juke)

- keeps his eyes scanning the field and not on the defender in pursuit (zero panic)

- stops on a dime so the defender misses him (a 6' 2" 230lb LB, not a lumbering DT or DE)

- in the same stopping motion, rips a 35-yard pass hitting his receiver in stride

He's one of one.

100% convinced that Moore scores on that play if he cuts it back to the middle.

I don’t. That guy never started in college and turned that (along with a freak Brady injury) into a long, lucrative career. He got paid way more money than his talent justified.

Rain Man 09-21-2023 10:08 AM

My first reaction seeing Rashee Rice in that clip was that Chad Henne is out on a route. Not being able to watch the preseason games has me behind in my player recognition.

On the move. WR doesn't have much separation. Literally right next to the sidelines. Flick of the wrist dime.

I wonder if part of Kelce's cut/run ability comes from his trust in Mahomes.

So this is a play we've seen Kelce make 1,000 times and he just catches it, cuts against his body and picks up 15+ yards of YAC by just going against the defenders momentum.

Moore catches it and looks for space rather than just catching it and immediately pressuring the DBs. He still picks up a bit more, but there was meat on the bones there if he's just that Nth more decisive that Kelce always seems to be.

Could it be that Kelce isn't really decisive as much as he's programmed?
Kelce knows that Mahomes has pristine ball placement. And he knows that Mahomes has a broader view of the coverage than he does being 20+ yards removed from it.

So on a throw behind him like that, does he just assume that Mahomes is putting it there precisely so he can cut and run against the momentum? Like is he even making a decision there or just going with the momentum of the catch while trusting that Mahomes is throwing him into the lane?

Hammock Parties 09-25-2023 09:07 AM

Yep he takes a false step there, it seems.

Right now, to my eyes, Skyy and Rice do about the same thing, but Rice is better at it and gives you a stronger performance at the point of the catch, because he's bigger.

You can't teach what Mahomes has.

I'm not a big follower of college football and heard all the stories and watched all the highlights but never in my wildest dreams did I believe the college gunslinger on a horrible team could turn into the soon to be QB GOAT of the NFL.

I remember watching the draft at Fate's, seeing the trade occur and going ballistic knowing we were finally drafting a QB with a #1 pick and moved up to do so.

I knew it was Mahomes and not Watson. What a day and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Oh boy is this glorious times for us Chiefs fans. :D

Kelce could have had a TD last year but because he’s of ball placement from Mahomes assumed the open field was towards sideline, but I think it was just a bad ball from pat , but he does factor in ball placement, I’m sure feel is a big aspect as well.

That sideline catch by Watson was one hell of an effort, but I still don't think it was a catch. It looked like one of his feet was off the ground when he secured the ball. Not complaining, and I'll take it, but man was that close. Great job by him.

You shut your whore mouth!

Nah, in all seriousness, it was about as close as you can get. I think we were saved by the call on the field being a catch. If they ruled it no catch, I don’t think they could have overturned it.

Yeah, that's where I fell in real time as well.

Whatever they called it on the field was going to stand. It was just too close to really determine when he 'secured' the ball and if it happened before that right toe stopped dragging.

Whatever the case may be, Jerry Rice couldn't have done any more to bring that ball in than Watson did. It was a pretty remarkable effort from him. He did everything physically possible to get those feet down and secure a fairly tough catch in the process.

Catch or no catch, it was a spectacular effort from Watson.

it was a catch

I think Mahomes has had better highlights so far than at this point last year. Outside of the spin and shot put in Tampa, of course.

Saw a breakdown this morning and the receivers actually have more catches and yards this season through 5 games than last season. Targets are almost identical as well. The flip side has been they have coughed the ball up way more due to deflected passes becoming INT's and fumbles.

But from a target and work load. As far as highlights? I don't know maybe more flashy plays but production isn't off. I do think the WR are down on TD's compared to last season. They have what 4? 2 Rice- 1 Moore, and 1 Watson?

This is false. They did through Week 4, but Week 5 last season the receivers had a great game against the Raiders.

They do have more TDs though.

TD's are actually behind I think. EPA is terrible due to the turnovers like I mentioned earlier. But the trend is interestingly consistent.

3 TD vs 2 last year

Shades of that throw against Denver in '18

Hammock Parties 10-10-2023 11:31 AM

this throw was WAYYY underrated

He caught it

Barely, but there was a split second where both toes dragged and he had possession of the ball

I love how it takes 400+ yards and 4 TDs for Mahomes to look like his "old, normal self."

man i'm unbelievably pissed that CBS did that shit to us at the start of the game

chiefs better get to posting some shit in HD

TambaBerry 10-23-2023 12:24 PM

I wish we had an end zone cam for the Rice TD because that throw looked super easy when I think it was actually very difficult

DRM08 10-23-2023 12:29 PM

That was a pretty epic performance with both his arm & legs. Chargers usually do a better job slowing him down, but not this time. Very enjoyable to watch.

Hammock Parties 10-23-2023 12:53 PM

thank god

Mahomes has been running so much that defenses have locked onto it. He already ran for a first down earlier in the game. Look at those poor bastards inch up when Patrick climbs the pocket LMAO
