Let's talk about the Flaming Thumbtacks

I am starting all "talk about" threads until you hear otherwise, given my mojo this week.

We stop the run and avoid turnovers we win. That is all we have to do. Period. Fart. Time.

Discus.

TLO 10-17-2021 02:54 PM

The thing things most worried about right now are the injuries. We're pretty banged up.

carcosa 10-17-2021 02:56 PM

Henry probably runs for 300 but we still win.

Not since Mahomes. He had a big game in Smith’s last playoff game though.

Never mind. He almost had 200 yards against us in the 2019 regular season with 2 TDs.

RaidersOftheCellar 10-17-2021 04:05 PM

Is Mike Pennel available?

bdj23 10-17-2021 04:06 PM

I hope the Chiefs win

Rainbarrel 10-17-2021 04:07 PM

If they can't confuse Allen, they're worthless.

Pablo 10-17-2021 04:07 PM

I think we need a player to sneak a pair of boltcutters on the field. If you cut that turd burrito off then his power is sapped a la Samson.

One game at a time.

Hopefully that second half ignited something in the guys.

Still think we can achieve all our goals this season. Just need to focus on going 1-0 every week.

Can we sign Big Mike Pennel to a one game contract?

Didn't you give up on the season last week?

Hell, half the board did though.

Megatron96 10-17-2021 08:00 PM

They are finally healthy on offense. A.J. Brown, Julio Jones, and Bud Dupree have been FP in practice this week. Of course, we'll have to see how they fare after tomorrow. But if thos guys and Henry are all available next week we could have a shootout.

Part of the reason I think it'll probably be a high-scoring game is that apparently TEN also owns one of the worst defenses in the league.

I think KC will win this one, but the defense better build on their performance today, or we might see something like 45-43, with Tannehill throwing for 400 yds, and Henry tacking on another 190 yds on the ground.

Don't want to see our defense play that bad.

Hammock Parties 10-17-2021 08:06 PM

Titans are complete paper tigers right now. They have played a soft schedule, lost to the JETS, got HANDLED by Arizona, barely beat a shit Seattle squad.

They don't stop the pass, they don't stop the run, Tannehill is in the bottom 4th of the league in passing.

We are going in dry and ending them after Buffalo cleans their clock.

The contenders are going to separate over the next month.

AND WE.

ARE.

CONTENDERS

Until Derrick Henry stops being Derrick Henry, he will always concern me.

This year's version of the defense hasn't shown they are up to stopping someone like THAT yet.

IF you can stuff the run early and IF Mahomes and co. don't turn the ball over and jump out to an early lead, we'll be fine. But a couple turnovers and the return of the 32 defense could spell a long day.

If The Chiefs have their shit together they'll win on cruise control. If not...

duncan_idaho 10-18-2021 07:12 AM

I've seen nothing from the Titans defense to make me believe they can consistently slow the Chiefs offense down.

KC must get the sloppy turnover stuff under control. Should would be nice to see a clean game this week. If they do that, they win.

The Titans OL has not been good. Would be a good week for the Chiefs to have complete personnel and take advantage up front.

Also hope this is a game where we see Bolton and Gay making plays. Their combination of strength and speed and ability to play downhill could be crucial to slowing the Titans' run game down.

Hammock Parties 10-18-2021 08:01 AM

Gay only played like 20 snaps yesterday. We got lots of room to grow.

wachashi 10-18-2021 08:50 AM

Tannehill's been sacked 20 times through 5 games, which is good for the worst in the league, even compared to teams that have played 6 games. This Titans offense is not the elite, top 5 unit they've been in recent years.

Coochie liquor 10-18-2021 09:29 AM

We are pretty banged up. Kelce looks hurt, HB, Hill, CJ. Hope we can get healthy for a run.

Also, any word on league circles??

wazu 10-18-2021 09:35 AM

What I like about playing the Titans is they give you a monster to focus on. Spend all week preparing an aggressive game plan to attack Derrick Henry, and don't let up. Our offense will get the job done on their side of the ball, just keep selling out to stop Henry. Unfortunately it sounds like they are getting healthy at WR, so will no doubt sting us with some play action passes, but with our offense boat-racing them that shouldn't be a problem if we are at least limiting Derrick Henry.

Hammock Parties 10-18-2021 09:36 AM

We want them to run Henry though.

You go with a run-heavy attack against this team, you lose, is what history shows, Baltimore game notwithstanding.

When the Titans beat us in 2019 it was because Tannehill pulled a miracle drive out his ass, not Henry.

wazu 10-18-2021 09:47 AM

In our playoff game, the Chiefs did a good job with Henry, and it seemed to rattle the Titans. I want Pressure on Tannehill to try to out-duel Mahomes. Henry running all over our D just wears them down and is demoralizing.

I believe Darwin had a really inexcusable fumble late in that game as well.

tredadda 10-18-2021 09:58 AM

I fully expect my favorite football club will win every time they play. I do believe they will step out onto the pitch and defeat the Titans in a hard fought match.

smithandrew051 10-18-2021 10:04 AM

Like I said last week, turnovers are the ONLY thing keeping this offense in check. They’re good for 30+ against anyone every week if they take care of the ball.

They were obviously pressing in the first half against WFT. The second half was a reminder of how good this team can be. Hopefully, we see that positive trend continue.

Turnovers against WFT took a minimum of 13 points off the board. 2 of those turnovers were completely unforced errors.

The defense needs to just keep taking baby steps in the right direction and get healthy. That will be enough for us to be able to beat anyone.

Dante84 10-18-2021 10:14 AM

I'd like us to start with a quick lead to undercut their run game and play-action game. It's clear that our white defenders are easily duped into ignoring their coverage responsibilities when they think it might be a running play.

If we can snag a lead and not look back, I will be very pleased.

GloryDayz 10-18-2021 10:19 AM

Let's just keep them motivated, they're at their best when we all do our part, our special things, to motivate the players.

Did he? They had the fluky Damian Williams fumble that bounced perfectly in front of a defender already running towards the end zone, allowing him to recover it and run it in for a score. I don't remember a Thompson fumble, though.

Hammock Parties 10-18-2021 10:22 AM

That was the game with the duffed Colquitt snap at the end.

Everyone wanted Reid fired for the tight end screen on the previous play.

ThaVirus 10-18-2021 10:28 AM

That 2019 game was so incredibly fluky, which is hilarious because we had a similar fluke style loss to them in the 2017 Wild Card with Mariota catching his own TD pass and Triplette's "forward progress" sack.

Off the top of my head I’d give that honor to the DPI no-call in the 2018 NFCCG.. but, yeah. I can’t believe they even gave Triplette that last game as a retirement gift in the first place.

Ultimately it possibly led to us seeing Mahomes sooner than anticipated so I can’t be too upset, but at the time it was very frustrating.

Plus didn't they need like 2 ****ed up field goal attempts? One where Colquitt panicked and just threw the ball away and another that was blocked? Or am I thinking of another game? I seem to remember it being quite a miracle that the Titans won.

Correct.

This FG would have made it 35-27 with 1:21 left.

Quote:

James Winchester aborted snap, recovered by Dustin Colquitt at TEN-37 Dustin Colquitt pass incomplete short left. Penalty on Dustin Colquitt: Intentional Grounding, 10 yards
This FG would have tied it at the gun.

Harrison Butker 52 yard field goal no good blocked by Joshua Kalu, recovered by LeShaun Sims (tackle by Anthony Sherman)

This play was the aborted screen pass that everyone was furious at Reid for.

Quote:

4 1:36 3 2 OTI 24 Patrick Mahomes sacked by Rashaan Evans for -5 yards
We convert any of those plays as intended we likely win.

Tannehill was dreadful in that game until the last drive. Henry made no difference.

The funniest part is that those two losses completely overshadow the fluky 2016 loss to them as well.

Blew a 10 point fourth quarter lead.

Iced Succop on a 50+ yard field goal. It fell 10 yards short. He kicked for real and nailed it.

Good times.

Run D has been good lately.

New World Order 10-19-2021 08:38 AM

D played better against Buffalo in second half and played well against Wash.

Should be interesting to see what happens Sunday.

wachashi 10-19-2021 09:07 AM

Our depth at DT will be really useful late in this game, assuming it's close. Gotta keep our fatties in the middle fresh. Tennessee bets on wearing teams down, so playing our ball control offense as we have been lately could also be a plus. We might be in a better position to wear down their defense.

The Franchise 10-19-2021 09:15 AM

If this defense wants to show it’s changed….then they need to step up against the Titans. I don’t care if Henry goes for 100 yards and a couple of TDs. Stop the passing game and don’t give up bullshit broken plays.

Chris Meck 10-19-2021 09:18 AM

yeah. Henry is going to get his. Just gang tackle and keep the YAC down as much as possible. If the offense doesn't turn the ball over, I don't see how Tennessee can keep up.

If we do, it could be a really long day.

Tits on a short week, unfortunately for us... the Chiefs right now are an easy game plan.

1) Run right over our defense with the best RB in the league.
2) Play 2 deep and force the Chiefs offense to make mistakes like they have done all season.

Mahomes will still get his yards. (hopefully the WR's and RB's don't dick him over, causing him to force shit.)

Henry is going to get his.

ThaVirus 10-19-2021 10:00 AM

Well, shit. We need to get back on track, quickly.

TEN
NYG
GB
LV
DAL
DEN
LV
LAC
PIT
CIN
DEN

That's only four or five games I feel confident in saying we'll win (DEN x2, NYG, PIT and CIN) and even a couple of those I wouldn't be surprised if we dropped.

If we lose this one against the Titans, a 10-7 type of season could be very likely.

duncan_idaho 10-19-2021 10:03 AM

I was more impressed by the Titans' defense than I expected to be.

Landry has a lot of burst and closing speed. KC is going to have to do a good job dealing with him and the other LB - 51.

Simmons inside is a monster - hopefully the Chiefs new Red Wall matches up well against him.

Still, Chiefs' main question is if they can protect the football. If Kansas City protects the football, the Chiefs will put up points.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-19-2021 10:07 AM

Titans are gonna score some points so get your bitching out of the way early on that folks.

Coochie liquor 10-19-2021 10:08 AM

If we can finally stop turning the ball over, we will win handily. Tits down more corners, and need as many as possible to stop KC (which they won’t). Hope Jones, and Ward are back, and HB, and Kelce can play.

jettio 10-19-2021 10:32 AM

Caleb Farley was a big draft day topic about how much he would drop because of injury concerns. Titans picked him at #22 and some said that could be a bargain and others said Titans jumped the gun to pick him that high.

He did not look very good last night, and then he tears ACL. Before the ACL injury he looked like he was not ready to play hard.

I always hope a young player overcomes injuries and has a good career, but he did not look NFL ready last night.

They actually had good coaching.

You always attack Buffalo in the middle of the field.

FloridaMan88 10-19-2021 12:56 PM

Maybe this is spinning stats to make a positive... but since Honey Badger's return after his week one COVID issue, the Chiefs defense has not given up 100 yards rushing in their games when the opposing QB wasn't the leading rusher and a legit running threat.

Baltimore, Philly and Buffalo all had over 100 yards rushing, with their QB's as the leading rushers.

The Chargers and Washington were held to under 100 yards rushing as their QB's were not rushing threats and were therefore not their team's leading rusher.

I guess the point is that the Chiefs run defense is "better" (relatively?) against more traditional rushing offenses, with a rushing attack led by a RB rather than a mobile QB.

That's a very interesting point.

This was basically the offense for the Titans last night. Hand it off to Henry or play-action throw over the middle to Brown.

It will be the same game plan against us. Our lbs are shit for converting the middle of the field and our cbs are often a step behind.

Chiefs have excellent corners.

What if our defense is actually pretty good and is just going through it's normal early season growing pains, with a little added excrement from Danny Dirty?

I think defense takes longer into a season to gel and get into a flow.

I had to read this quote 3x to try to figure out how the hell Chris Jones was on the practice squad.

It’s been a long week already.

I don’t care what the stats are. Just get some damn stops. 2 Per half on their side of the field would be huge.

So.. Derrick Henry is on pace for 2,200+ rushing yards and 28 TDs this year.. after cracking 2k last year.

Assuming he's able to keep up this insane pace and smashes Eric Dickerson's rushing record while challenging LT's TD record, would we consider him an all-time great?
