*** Thursday Night Disappointment - Bengals @ Browns ***

Bengals (0-1)
@
Browns (0-1)

battle of the winless teams

TribalElder 09-17-2020 09:27 AM

I'm just glad football is back

BigCatDaddy 09-17-2020 09:29 AM

You have to root for the Bengals here.

Randallflagg 09-17-2020 09:32 AM

I voted Bengals - but frankly, I could see a 3-3 tie.......

DRM08 09-17-2020 09:36 AM

Would love to see the Bengals run them out of the stadium, just to add more fuel to the dumpster fire that is Mayfield's pro career.

FloridaMan88 09-17-2020 09:37 AM

It’s early enough in the season that being able to watch any football is good and I am interested to see Burrow.

Nah I think you want the Browns to win so maybe it puts more pressure on the Ravens. I know they just dismantled the brownies but it's early maybe they can get their shit together and at least be competitive. They have a lot of talent, just need to put it together.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-17-2020 09:46 AM

Burrow vs. Baker is interesting no matter how you view them

Bengals are pretty beat up along the DL and that’s bad news against Chubb and Hunt. Browns win...

Rain Man 09-17-2020 09:46 AM

I am an undecided voter. Please make the case for why I should root for either team over the other. Right now, I've got...

Pro-Browns

Dorsey used to work there, and he got us Mahomes.
They're relatively harmless.
Baker Mayfield is refreshingly frank.
Jarvis Landry has a good work ethic.

Pro-Bengals

That Joe Burrow fellow seems like a nice kid with a Horatio Alger background.
They're relatively harmless.
I've followed that Sam Hubbard DE for a while since I was kind of interested in drafting him.
I really like the stripes.

Anti-Browns

Beckham is kind of a jerk.
Mayfield is kind of a jerk.
Myles Garrett is kind of a jerk.
The Browns beat the Chiefs once many years ago in a meaningless game, but it disappointed me.

Anti-Bengals

I still have a Vontaze Burfict and Pacman Jones hangover.
Their offensive line has names that are either oddly trendy, uncool, or copies of NBA legends.

TribalElder 09-17-2020 09:54 AM

Anti-Browns
Mayfield is in too many commercials and that is very annoying

Pro Bengals
CEH won a national championship with Burrow and CEH is now in KC

scho63 09-17-2020 09:56 AM

It will be hard to tell that this game will be played during COVID as I think both of these teams draws a sparse crowd.

NWTF 09-17-2020 10:46 AM

The Bengals are easy to forget about. Theres nothing interesting about them. Burrow seems alright, hope he doesnt bust. The Browns are a team you should feel sorry for cause they've sucked for so long but are somehow easy to root against. Last years off season champs. This years sneaky playoff pick. LMAO

I guess for an outcome, Id like to see the Bengals drub them like the Ravens did.

Sure, if the Browns actually run the ball instead of letting Baker throw 5 yard bullet passes every snap.

I saw a couple of interviews with Burrow, and he seems like a dandy chap. I'll root for the Bengals tonight with the 1 percent of interest that I'll have. But I'll note that I'm actually interested in watching the game since I don't see these two teams very often. If it was the stupid patriots or steelers or packers I wouldn't turn the TV on.

Pablo 09-17-2020 11:04 AM

Please destroy them to the best of your ability Bengals.

13-3.

ChiefsCountry 09-17-2020 11:08 AM

Burrow had a nice drive to end the game against the Chargers. Got boned by an Offensive PI call on AJ Green.

I thought the offensive PI call on Green was legit, only way he created separation was the push off. The Cowboys vs Rams offensive PI on Gallup on the other hand I thought was bogus.

I just found out yesterday actually that pass interference is not challengeable this season. Last year was only a 1 year experiment apparently.

JD10367 09-17-2020 11:30 AM

Burrow already > Mayfield.

Bengals win 17-6 and Mayfield has two turnovers, marking the official “beginning of the end of his career”.

TLO 09-17-2020 11:32 AM

Go Bengals I guess?

Megatron96 09-17-2020 11:39 AM

In the game clips that I saw from last week, Baker doesn't look comfortable at all. But I figured it would take a few weeks for him and the rest of the offense to get used to Stefanski's system. Probably 6-8 weeks.

But the real problem is that Baker isn't apparently running the offense as scripted. If you go back and look at last week's game, some of the plays were executed pretty well and Baker had guys wide open, but didn't throw to them for some reason. Tnight's game will be interesting to see if he takes what the defense gives him.

Just watching Burrow on Sunday you could tell he is the real deal and definitely will have a better career than Mayfield. To bad though he is playing for a shit organization.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-17-2020 12:27 PM

Think about some bets...

Chubb over/under of 75.5 rush yards feels like stealing if he doesn’t get hurt early.

That's what I noticed too. Mayfield had plenty of time to throw. He either misread the defense or just showed very poor accuracy on a lot of plays. Considering accuracy was supposed to be his biggest strength coming into the league, it's not a good sign. It sure looks like regression instead of improvement as he gains more experience at the pro level.

Agreed. He was all over the place. But his entire college and pro career has been about accuracy, and a really high level of accuracy. So I wonder if what happened last week was an outlier performance. Everyone has them. I guess we'll see tonight.

My theory, which is based mostly on just my gut, is that he had a little of the 'first game of the season' jitters, combined with not being entirely comfortable with the new scheme, the third one he's had to learn in three years, plus just pressing too hard. He wants to have a big performance; to hit a homerun, on every play. He needs to just take what the defense gives him and be patient. Sooner or later the defense will give him a chance to make a big downfield play. I think he's trying to manufacture something that isn't there.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-17-2020 12:46 PM

From what I see, Baker isn’t playing within his skill set.

He’s trying to make magic like the Mahomes/Murray/Jackson types, but lacks the athleticism to do so.

He just needs to trust his scheme and reads. The talent is around him to be very successful.

Red Dawg 09-17-2020 12:46 PM

Baket is a douchebag but Browns win tonight.

CervezaChill 09-17-2020 12:49 PM

I am weirdly invested in a Browns-Bengals game this year. I am one of the few people who actually root for Baker (actually had a class at Tech with him) so hope he wins but I also can see them being bodied by Burrow.

The player prop bet I like is Burrow over 22.5 yards rushing.

Deberg_1990 09-17-2020 01:04 PM

Burrow unloads.

328 yards passing 3 TDs. 1 int

I think that's a pretty good theory on your part. Maybe he will settle down with more time in the new scheme. It helps that none of the other teams on their schedule this year have such an explosive offense like the Ravens. There's bound to be more pressure on the QB when you feel like your defense has no chance to stop the other team from scoring.

Of course, these things are very fragile. If he has another couple of terrible games, this thing could really avalanche out of control and he won't be able to recover from it.

Why Not? 09-17-2020 04:54 PM

Bengals have the better QB by far but it’s his first “road” game and this is exactly the type of game the Browns win and people act like they’ve figured it out before they promptly lose 6 in a row.

Heh, entirely possible. This is one of those games that I usually take a hard pass on because literally everything about it a coinflip. Maybe one or both teams get hot offensively. Maybe both defenses actually look good. Maybe we see an absolute circus with pick-6s, safeties, fumble returns, guys running the ball into the wrong endzone. These games are as likely to go 3-0 as they are to go 37-40 in OT.

But on paper, and if I had to bet the game, I'd bet the under every time.

TribalElder 09-17-2020 06:02 PM

If baker gets run by burrow colin cowherd is gonna go ham sammich

Megatron96 09-17-2020 06:13 PM

So i just saw somewhere had the Browns -6. That seems highly optimistic. I might be tempted to take CIN if I had to wager on this one.

Rain Man 09-17-2020 06:17 PM

The Bengals and Browns are intermixed in their line of unity. That's more unity than I expected.

displacedinMN 09-17-2020 06:17 PM

lots of ugly orange and brown

Even with the sticky gloves that's amazing.

Can wide receivers open doors with those gloves, or will they stick to the doorknob?
