What Are You Spinning? Cont.

Rabble's thread has become extremely slow to load and post so I'm starting a new one while the other will be locked.

As rabble is no longer with us (cough), I have been authorized to post in his stead.

Perhaps we can add a full description of the video then post a direct link in an effort to forego the issues in the original thread.

Let's hear what your hearing.

It's "you're" you ****ing heathen.

And lately I've been listening to Gorillaz and oddly enough 80's music I hated as a kid. I never really gave Gorillaz a fair listen and said "I don't like rap" back when the first and second album came out. I'd say I really like about 50% of it and can't stand about 50%.

And I think it's old age and nostalgia kicking in but shit I hated when it came out (like the cure, new wave, 80's pop) for some reason makes me smile now. I guess I'm old enough now that rediscovering something I'd forgotten has become just as exciting as discovering something new.

As far as something "new to me" I've been listening to Magic Sword while playing Fallout: New Vegas and a bunch of retro games. The one song most people probably have heard was played over the Thor: Ragnarok trailer...

(skip to 19:00 in the vid for the Thor song.)

That's pretty heavy. Me like.

It's awesome going back and listening to things you weren't into because you were into something else.

Lately for me it's been The Verve and Stone Roses.

Aretha - Son of a Preacher Man

Song came from legendary Muscle Shoals, Aretha turned it down initially, then covered it subsequently.

I think Dusty's arrangement is the superior work, but Aretha do wail, though.

Which brings up another recommendation of the Muscle Shoals documentary, worth it for the Allman stuff alone and there's SO MUCH MORE!!!

Muscle Shoals

At Amazon yesterday, one of the younger female workers wouldn't shut the **** up for five straight hours.

After hour two I played Elton Johns greatest hits for nearly 2 hours. It was excellent and the other employees gave me the thumbs up.

Is there some connection between talkative females and Elton John or was it just something you guys could listen to instead of the gabby gals?

Listening to Elton John for 2 straight hours is the equivalent of listening to Suzie Talksalot.

Velvet Underground - I'm Waiting For The Man

Spaceman 3 - Hypnotized

My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow

Loop - Vapour

I was a Poco fan after Buffalo Springfield broke due to Neil Young and Steven Still BS personally the should have never been allowed in.
This was one my favorite songs from them. I always looked for a live version on the tube this is close enough though I think the orchestra was dubbed in from the album at the finale. Timothy Schmidt Had joined on as Randy Meisner left to join Ricky Nelsons Stone Canyon Band then later on to play base for the eagles till he couldnt stand it and left and timothy was recruited to the eagles.
Paul Cotton -- guitar, vocals
Timothy B. Schmidt -- bass, vocals
Rusty Young -- steel guitar, guitar, vocals
George Grantham -- drums, vocals
Al Garth -- fiddle, flute, violin, sax, vocals

Been in a Country mood lately

Rich O'Toole - Cricket Song
Turnpike Troubadours - Winding Stair Mountain Blues
The Dead South - In Hell I'll be in Good Company
Whiskey Meyers - Broken Window Serenade

I have a hard time finding new music I like but recently came across a band I really like - The Black Angels. I guess they are considered modern psychedelic rock but they have that dark, heavy sound that really hits the right spot in me. Take 70's classic rock and add in some Jesus and Mary Chain buzz and you have their music. All of their albums are very good.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4U9B244Z3go" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That led me to the bands Black Mountain and The Blackwater Fever (apparently you need to have the work "Black" in your band's name to play this kind of music).

Been getting down to the bluesy awesomeness of Fantastic Negrito lately. Smoother than a fresh shaved pussy!

I’ve been reading positive things about Gary Clark Jr.’s new album This Land. I’ve not heard any of it though. Reviews indicate he’s moving into more of a rock sound.

He's on Austin City Limits right now

Spun a couple if my Little Feat albums today Dixie Chicken and Feats dont Fail Me Now. Then watched this live concert. Hard to believe in less than a year after that concert Lowell would be dead. I seen them maybe 4 times still the best live band concerts I ever saw. You could tell Lowell was just going through the motions. He wasnt keen on the band's direction into jazz fusion. Funny they were more well known in Europe than the States most likely because Disco had overtaken the US. Jimmy Page said it was his favorite American band and the Stones called them there favorite band period. One of mine to!

A band I have heard about! I think their farewell tour is this summer

You can hear how being in the Mothers of Invention how Lowell George was influenced by Frank Zappa with the song Bacon Fat. I can almost hear early Feat in that song.

Tell me about your audio set up, Baby Lee. I know you've got some high end shit rolling.

Mid-range, moneywise.

Main Components
DA777ES Amp
NS999ES DVD/SACD
KE5000S Cassette
Pioneer PL-A45 Turntable
NEAR - 50M mains, 20M center, and 15M surround

I also have a couple 400 disc changers, minidisc, Blu-Ray, but they're all basic. All Sony, though.

And it's tied into my media server on the PC for streaming stuff off my backup drive, and DVRed content.

Yep, I though I remember you as an ES guy! 2003 was a great year to be selling that stuff. I thought you had a TAE/TAN9000ES combo for a while, could be mistaken though...

The 777 is an integrated amp that has all the hardware of the 9000ES pre and pro in one package.
