Mizzou fans listen up: you get a chance to see the defending champs in December when they visit your barn. Don’t pass up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take your kids to witness history.

Rock ****ing Chalk!!!!

Excited to see Bill Self bring home a couple more titles in his time at Kansas. The coaching competition has gotten significantly weaker over the last few years. No doubt who the top dog is right now.

And oh yeah, he’s on a lifetime contract.

LFG!!!!

You’re the designated KU Basketball Thread Starter until we lose in the first round of the tournament again.

Speaking of which, Rupp Rafters must be due for a new Thread Starter.

The 2022 NCAA tournament title. 2 national championships in 3 years. The best coach in college basketball.

Let’s run it back.

I think he's counting 2020, when KU finished the season ranked #1 unanimously in all the polls..... Or something like that.

I lucked out and bought my bottle on a day the liquor store gives 15% off craft beer, and the clerk just gave me 15% my entire cart, so my bottle ended up at $67. First time I've ever gotten the discount on liquor on beer day.

Gotcha.

I mean, I guess you can claim that. Frankly, I think Kansas is above claiming such tenuous grasps. That is Missouri behavior. Or Oklahoma State.

It is the kind of claim that a fan base supports when their team does it and mocks when another team tries it.

Just wish the 2020 season was played out. Dayton and San Diego State had once in a lifetime squads. Damn you, Covid.

Yeah, and that system sucked too. Check out tiptop25.com for more details. In fact, the AP Poll back then sometimes stopped before all regular season games were finished! (Rare occurrence)

The difference is, the 2020 season was interrupted and then cancelled. While in football terms, the regular seasons were usually concluded.

But hey if Kansas can claim it if they want. Loads of universities have interesting titles. It is a better claim than 1941 Alabama for football.

The regular season was completed. They were starting the conference tournaments when everything got canceled.

Personally, I don't claim it as a true national championship.

However, it is fun to rub in the noses of those who are easily triggered.

Exactly... it's a lighthearted claim to a NC that will never be.

We get it's lame and thats kind of the point. It's not like there's a banner in AFH, and if there was, I'd just laugh at that, too (along with my wine bottle :D).

However, I would say it's different than say hanging a banner for a Sweet Sixteen appearance simply because Kansas did everything it could that year. It's not some "we made it further than ever before even if we didn't win it all!"... they did everything possible to claim a NC by being the best team in the field and it's not their fault the tourney for canceled.

They wouldn't be celebrated coming up short but still having a good year, because they were literally the best team at the end.

The regular season was completed, and they were #1 in every rating system.

I don't think many KU fans are serious about claiming a title. It's just something that's used to trigger people and it works every time.

I will say, though, that the NCAA probably should have awarded a champion or recognized it in some way, rather than having no champion. I can guarantee that if the same thing had happened in CFB and there was a clear #1 team, that fanbase would demand to be recognized by the NCAA, claiming it's no different than what they'd done for decades. It's funny how different the fan approach is to basketball.

I get the argument from both sides, but I don't really agree with the "tourney title is the only way" approach. I think that unusual circumstances call for unusual solutions.

Are you from CA? Just curious.

You are right. I forgot it all went down during conference tournaments. My team was already shot to hell by that point so I was focused on softball.

I am surprised the NCAA didn't do something but I am sure it was lost in the shuffle once permanence set in.

I would be OK if Kansas claimed it. It would feel strange but it is not a ridiculous claim. Just feels like Kansas has such a proud basketball history that they wouldn't need to claim a title.

No. East Coast fan. Pennsylvania.

One of the weirdest things about the Covid season is that Udoka Azubuike never played in a single conference tournament game in his career.

Didn't realize that. I knew he only played in one NCAA tourney.

One postseason appearance combined by Azubuike and Embiid, and it was a final four. I'm betting that Self would have several more tourney wins if not for those injuries.

KC_Connection 05-17-2022 11:17 AM

If it was a program like Dayton that ended the regular season unanimous #1 and not KU with all its tradition, I guarantee that program would be asking for recognition and analogize to college football. Self had too much self-respect to make the claim himself but that’s all right because I’m here to do it for him.

3 in 4 years hasn’t been done since Wooden’s UCLA teams. Time to make history.

I can only imagine how Dayton fans feel about that year. They gave us a hell of a battle early in the year.

They were going to be a 1-seed with the best player in the country. Not likely to happen again for Dayton anytime soon.

Braun had a 40" vertical at the Combine. Ochai was 39".

That is very surprising to me. I assume Braun testing well means he's gone for good.

Not surprising. Ive always maintained Braun is a very good athlete. Always was puzzling why ppl tried to claim Jalen Wilson was more athletic. If Braun had Wilsons craftiness and ability to create contact he would be a lottery pick.

Braun cons are he has bad footwork, cant score thru contact well, slow shooting release.

Good get. I’m guessing Wilson comes back, and (if so) we’ll be pretty loaded up on the perimeter again.

Hopefully, some combination of Clemence, Udeh, And Adams can solidify the 5.

I’m guessing the starters are Harris, Rice/Dick, McCullar, Wilson, and Clemence as of now.

Difference is Agbaji is explosive. Brains get up is a little slower. Think Wiggins vs Elijah Johnson. Elijah could jump out of the gym but Wiggins could get off the ground so damn quick.

I've never seen anyone who could land and jump again (say on a put back) as quick as Wiggins.

I'm glad Wiggins has finally managed to have some success in the NBA, making a real contribution on a solid playoff team/championship contender.

Man, if we land Hunter too, we’re loaded again.

Really hope Clemence and Udeh can lock down the 5. Adams as an energy 4 off the bench is valuable.

If Dick, Rice, and Clemence can knock down the 3 like they’re capable of, we’ll be really tough to beat.

Udeh has the frame and athletic ability to be a high-end college rim protector. If he can defend right away, then think about this lineup defensively:

Harris
Hunter
McCullar
Adams
Udeh

Might as well put a lid on the rim.

A Texas Tech fan said how dare he go to a rival

I had to respond and say it's news to us that we're rivals. But anyway thanks for Mahomes

I'm curious to see how good of defender he is at the NBA level.

he will be good at his size and range to knock people off the three point line. Anything else might be an adventure LOL

Bill LOVES KJ Adams. It will be hard to take a starting spot away from him.

I love KJ Adams. I have nothing to add but I want it on wax.

I think Wilson and Braun are both gone but McCullar is a great replacement in that regard. Excellent defender.

Need some more shooting somewhere now.

People with connections have been saying for weeks that Wilson is coming back. I don’t think anything’s happened lately that will change his mind.

Got my select a seat for season tickets yesterday. My son is in his high school band and digging it, so we're a few rows up behind the band. Not sure how I feel about that, but we'll see. Next year I'll probably bump my Williams fund donation to get an earlier spot in line and maybe some chairbacks.

Just a reminder:

UK lost to a 15 seed.

LMMFAO!!!!!

What does season tickets cost, including the donation? You don't have to disclose that you are paying but what's the average price?

Udeh has the frame and athletic ability to be a high-end college rim protector. If he can defend right away, then think about this lineup defensively:

Harris
Hunter
McCullar
Adams
Udeh

Might as well put a lid on the rim.

What makes you think Wilson is gone? You know something I've not heard?

Offensively, they might be as bad as Iowa St though.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Hunter. And I think he’ll be a solid shooter next year. But I don’t want to see Adams anywhere near the starting lineup.
