Will we make a big splash next year?

Listening to Veach’s presser and interview with Florio, he referenced that Clark told him not to use next year’s first to make a move this year (because the draft is in KC).

Now, some of the KC press tweeted it out and said that Veach “joked” about Clark saying that, but if you watch it, Veach isn’t joking, he’s just saying it. He then laughs when he says he told Clark that “Vegas is hosting this draft and don’t have a first.” That almost led me to believe they might have considered moving way up this year had Clark not shut it down.

In any event, it’s clearly important to Clark that we show well as the draft host next year, and that got me thinking: is there potential for us to make a huge trade up next year, if there’s a “dude” that Veach wants? If so, who? And how high?

It would have to be for a premium position of need, so maybe WR or Edge. Or, maybe there’s a Kyle Pitts type of player at TE or a freak DT?

Anyways, just throwing it out there, as maybe we can’t rule anything out.

Veach is getting Will Anderson...in my dreams...

TambaBerry 05-05-2022 06:53 AM

Unless these qbs are actually the real deal I don't see how he doesn't go number one

Buehler445 05-05-2022 07:26 AM

Probably depends on how the year goes.

WR room will be pretty empty barring FA or several extensions.

DE is probably still a colossal need.

Hopefully we're still at the end of the first round... I think we will be... It will depend on how the round falls.

The Franchise 05-05-2022 07:32 AM

It’s going to depend on who gets invited. I would imagine that Clark wants their guy walking out on that stage in front of all the fans.

chiefforlife 05-11-2022 10:16 AM

You have to understand Clarks position. He has to consider the Brand as well as the team. No way do you host the draft and not have a first rounder, unless you are Vegas (not the company you want to be in).

I think we all agree that Veach killed this draft, murdered may be a better word. Im sure Clark and Veach considered options and Clark realized we could improve without trading next years first which would be his preference anyway.

Trading up from 32 next year is going to be expensive!

The draft is always more entertaining when you have some draft picks to use.

I don't think that Chris Jones is with the 2023 Chiefs.

Chris needs to have a very good year in 2022 to keep his value up.

His cap number for 2023 is $27,041,668 and KC can save $20 M by trading or releasing him.

Maybe a trade just before the draft and use a high pick for a DT.

My bet is that they extend him

Chris Jones's cap number for 2022 is $29,415,666.

I suppose KC could extend, but Chris's playing value and his cost are going in two different directions.

Let's see him healthy and playing well and then figure out what to do.

I think resigning OBJ and Townsend is a no brainer - as for the rest, it is going to depend on how Spags feels at the end of the season of how well his "D" did.

Also, how did the offense do? What do we have at WR, TE and RB? How did our draft picks do? What position(s) do we need to address at that point in time?

well the key pieces are in place, obviously DL and WR will have to be addressed and another CB.

So basically exactly this past offseason.

Only with like ten times the cap space.

I was certain the Chiefs were circling around Jordan Davis, which would have allowed the Chiefs to move on from Chris Jones.

But not only did the Chiefs not take Jordan Davis, they didn't take any DTs.

So... they have no DTs under contract in 2023. They can't let Jones walk without leaving the cupboard completely bare, but they can extend him.
