What is the best restaurant in KC?
I'm not super picky about food type - I'm just looking at what restaurant would qualify to you as "the best" in Kansas City.
Give me some examples of food offered, atmosphere, price, etc. |
Pasta Brioni if you have $100 to spare
|
Prime Social -
Great drinks, awesome views, seafood Rico's- best tacos believe it's still BYOB too Slaps BBQ- get their before they sell out Garzazos Italian downtown- best little place good Italian food for KC standards Stockhill Grill- Pretty good steak nice atmosphere |
Majestic Steakhouse
|
Gracie's Fish House
Specializes in high-end tuna. Some say it's a little bland and lifeless, but the plating is good enough to make your mouth water. |

Taco Via (95th)

Hooters

Jack Stack.

Slaps if you want bbq is fantastic.
The majestic as clay said is fun. Good food good atmosphere jazz in the basement. Ocean prime was good when we hit it up last weekend. Capital grille is always solid if you want a steak. All depends what kinda food you want |
QT - Best roller grills in town
|
Eddie v is your typical corporate steakhouse
Piropos is great atmosphere and food and great views up in briarcliffe |
I’d vouch for Trezo Marre for Italian as a very nice spot at Briarcliff. Italian and seafood. It’s a cozy setting typical of better than chain dining. You’ll spend 150-200 for two people if you’re buying drinks as well. Wife and I go there for birthdays and special events once a year or so
I’ve been impressed with Summit Grille every time I’ve went. It’s Americana but their seasonal menu is usually money. I know they have a couple locations but I go to the one in Gladstone of all places and it’s a solid environment. You’ll spend somewhere in the 125-150 range for two people with drinks Drew Locks dad owns summit and he must not be a failure like his son |
The Taco Bell across from Arrowhead/Kaufman.

|
Lordy, I miss the American.

Ray’s Pizza. But the real original one on 11th street.

The uber driver said Jack Stack is way better, the #1 BBQ in town, and Joe's is overrated from being featured on a Guy Frieri TV show episode and also isn't anything special. |

Ate at 801 Chop House some years ago when visiting KC. It was good if memory serves me. They kept bugging me to buy a bottle of wine though. They were relentless.

Lots of good suggestions but our favorite place is Le Fou Frogs especially weekend evenings.

I bet he cooks up some ****ing top quality baked beans though. That's just about all those limey pricks are good for food wise. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UtRmnVGBWa8?si=9_ydXop49R-lZe54" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

That actually is kind of disappointing |
I think Bristol is pretty damn outstanding.
Have never had a single thing there that wasn't fantastic and they really do cover all the bases. Seafood, beef, pork, chicken - they don't miss. |

Just saw Jax Fish House on the Plaza is closed forever which makes me sad. |
Slaps sauce is disgusting. Like it almost seems like they are trying to make a bad sauce. And agreed the brisket is super meh. I never understand why so many people love this place. I think they pay off online reviewers.
|
Here's a few more favorites.
Le Fou Frog (the chocolate mousse is to die for) Aahaa South Indian Cuisine (one of the most amazing weekend buffets you'll experience) Bamboo Penny's - really good Thai and a lot of hot girls And last but not least, for more American fare, Rye. Get the fried chicken and pie. |

They just do things very well there. |
Tanner's /Marty Schottenheimer

I've been told I should go to Stroud's for some pan fried chicken when I visit KC. Is it good and worth the trip?

4:00 AM, belly fully of booze, and nothing, and I mean NOTHING is better than a Truck Stop Omelet at Town Topic.
|
For a chain, Eddie V’s has superb food and service.
But, for local spots, here’s just a few favorites that I highly recommend. Farina The Town Company Lula Southern Cookhouse Le Fou Frog Grunauer Cafe Provence The Majestic Novel |

I am pretty torn on Lula I know it is popular and I have not had a bad experience there per say but what you get for money is just a bad value propisition. I don't have any problem spending money on a good meal but these are comfort food staples and for the price it is good but nowhere near *that* good. |
Le Fou Frog > Cafe Provence
I did not think the Majestic was great, at least for steak. I'd like to find a new steakhouse since Stockhill changed ownership and is no longer 4 stars. Ive just been going to Em Chamas cuz they have cheap Wagyu. |

Does it matter which location? |
Quote:
Correct. My wife and I went once years ago and have never been back even though it’s not far from us at all. Flavorless is exactly what we recall. |
There’s a relatively new place (5 years maybe, not sure) in Lenexa at the city center area off I-435, Silo Modern Farmhouse that is actually pretty good. Rye is probably a decent comparison.

I like Bristol but Bonefish is just as good, if not better.

I think Strouds keeps it a little bland on purpose for families with kids, but you also have to consider the vast majority of the metro area have had their taste buds drowned in corn syrup and sugar for so long so they don't even know what they can't taste anymore. |

I've been to Bonefish in the Northland a bunch of times (just a few minutes from my folks house) and I don't think it's a close call. Bonefish typically comes across as just a fairly standard seafood restaurant. Better than Red Lobster of course, but not a top tier spot either. Simply a pretty good spot; on any given night maybe a little better or worse than McCormick & Schmick's. Haven't thought it to be on the same tier as Bristol. |
Quote:
I tried that Jax Fish House a time or two, which I understand might be closed now and it was good. I'd compare it to Bristol, which I'm again not saying I dislike. But the consistency of Bonefish just does it for me if I'm in the mood for seafood. I'm pretty much guaranteed to love the meal. |

The Bonefish off 64th you’re talking about is dead. Got shut down a month or so ago
