What color Corvette would you buy?

Hypothetical: you let your friend drive your Corvette and he wrecks it and walks away.

Your insurance covers replacement costs as well as any damage to the Lamborghini that hit you, so you're now at the dealer picking out your new car.

What color do you select?

Here's a convenient link to some dealer site that makes it easy to look at colors. (Scroll down the page a little bit.) If they chat you, don't identify yourself as an NFL player.

I believe it is a 56 or 57, never could tell the difference between the two, but a 53/54 is a bit different, with raised tail light housings and they only came with an in line "stove bolt six."

The 56 and later had a nice sloped back like in your picture. Beautiful cars, unlike the over the top new vettes that look like something out of a scifi movie.

I owned a 66 Vette convertible for a short while but wouldn't care to own one of the new ones, but I chose red in the poll.

The red one below is a 53 and the blue one is a 57. Quite a few subtle differences.

Carbon Flash Metallic got my vote. Shows lines well and would hide dust better than black. Just a nice color.

But... that Riptide Blue is pretty sexy not gonna lie.

You'd think. Not too many people running around that can spend $600k+ on a car. You start talking over 3 million for a Sian.

Corvettes run 120-170k as a rule so at least a guy can think about it without a 7-figure salary. I'd put Porsche and Mercedes in the same category.

I have less than $50Gs in my 2019 Stingray. I bought it slightly used before the used car market freaked out with prices going through the roof. Hard to believe it's almost 5 years old. I could have sold it six months ago for what I paid for it in 2020.

I'm a bit of a Corvette fan but the sweet spot for me are the early C3's, specifically between '68-72 when you could special order the L88 package with an aluminum block 427 rated at 400 horses but was making more like 600.
I'm still getting used to the new mid engine version.

They really do.

I'd chicken out. I'd go with the deep blue (I think that's riptide) or that cherry red (the Red Mist metallic) and I'd probably always have a little buyers remorse.

Just as long as you're both willing to admit that the 'Cacti Green' is really just 'Seafoam Green' that they gave a cooler name to so dude's with bald heads and goatees would buy them...

Your corvette would always be like the 'Tactical Sunglasses" they sell at 10a during the week. They call them tactical so you won't notice that they're Dollar General specials. Just as they called your corvette "Cacti" so you won't notice that it's the same color as those flowery bath salts your wife really likes...

Yeah - the C8 is pretty much the best looking car this country's made since the 70s and really the only car this country has ever made that can get lost alongside it's contemporary exotics from Italy.

They did a goddamn fantastic job on it. And I say this as a Viper fanboy. It's just a fantastic car; unreasonably so for a car with a base under $70K.

And an SRT Challenger says, what exactly?

"I like things loud, fast in a straight line and kinda ugly"?

I mean sure, the Corvette may just be another bottle blond with big tits trying to look like the true supermodels that came by their looks through stellar genetics. But I'll be damned if it didn't get close enough.

You can take your chick with 'unconventional' good looks - I'll take my bleached barbie with perky cans that corners on rails.

It always bugs me when they attribute middle aged men getting cool sports cars to a mid-life crisis. Instead, it's usually when a man accrues enough funds to be able to afford the car that they've wanted all along.

True, the middle aged Vette owner with a gold chain and too much exposed chest hair is a stereotype, but so is the bubbly blonde who drops trou at the sight of a Vette.

Mr. Kotter 04-02-2024 01:20 PM

Torch Red is, of course, the choice of most die-hard Chiefs fans, duh?

However, the quandary between black or white is baffling to me. Counter intuitive though it is, white cars don’t “look” nearly as dirty as quickly as black cars. I’ve owned one black car once—given a choice of a white vehicle over a black, that’s easy in my experience. Good luck keeping that black vehicle“clean”—because you’ll need it. ;)

Unless you enjoy washing your car 2-3 times a week to keep the look…:doh!:

Well, I opted for black knowing that. I also assumed that a vette would definitely not be the daily driver, and you wouldn't be driving it in rain or snow. If you keep a cover on it in the garage, it should stay decently nice as long as you bust out some detailer and a microfiber cloth to remove bugs and splashes after each drive)

Yup.

Always like that Royal Blue sort of color. Not navy but not powder blue. I think it was Toyota that had Blue Mica metallic on cars in the mid-90s and that was the first one where I was really wowed by the color on a sports car. Viper GTS Blue looks great as well.
