What is your best life advice?
 

I'm sure we'll get a mix bag of things here, but I'm interested that if you knew you'd be passing away soon, what life advice would you give someone if you asked?

I'm relatively young - but I think the few things I would tell people.

1. If you tell someone you're going to do something. Do it.
2. Distance yourself from people who bring you down. This includes friends, family, jobs, etc.
3. Find a career that you love. Work feels a lot less like work when you're doing something you're passionate about.
4. Treat others with kindness. It costs you nothing, and you may make someone's day/week/year

Sit the **** down and shut the **** up.

Once you turn 60 -> Never pass up an available bathroom.

Listen to your parents. They know a hell of a lot more than you think.

Be a Chiefs fan

You only get one body, take care of it.

And never ever let a hard on go to waste

Whenever I'm about to do something, I think, ‘ Would an idiot do that’ and if they would, I DO NOT do that thing.

1. Always make the decision that is best for the long term, even if it makes things harder in the short term.

2. Surround yourself with people who have their act together more than you do.

"My daughter is only going to listen to Death Metal because at least those girls wear clothes."

Value time over money.

A good friend is much more valuable than a shitty family member.

Have passion to strive to be great at something.

Care less.

Always wait 12 months before buying Chiefs SB gear. It really gets discounted .

Just be a good human being.

Ive found that this means very different things to different people.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Give yourself grace when you **** up. We will forever be our own worst enemies, but that doesn't mean you need to turn it into an art form. Forgive yourself and love yourself, always.

Don’t stick your dick in crazy.

Do something more rewarding than being on the editorial board for SaveOurChiefs.

Play good football

Never join a club that would let someone like you become a member.

Figure out what you are good at...

and learn to love it.

I wouldn't tell anyone this isn't good advise.

But I spent a lot of time in my mid to late twenties surrounded with people who decidedly had their act less together than I did.

They sure knew how to party.

Bit specific but it's the one piece of advice I'd have given myself. Don't have kids before you're ready, no matter who or what is pushing you to do so. BUT do try and get yourself ready as early as possible. There's loads that you can't prepare for and it'll hit you like a train. But there's also a lot you really can think about ahead of time. You don't want to be worrying about money and you don't want to be an old, knackered dad. But it's also too much fun to not do, if you can.

Achieve excellence in something - really anything - when you’re young. I think that helps one to recognize the hard work and sacrifice it takes to reach that level which raises the bar and standard for everything in life beyond that.

There are no solutions, only trade-offs

Get to know and develop a relationship with Jesus for your eternal salvation.

John 3:17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.

For me these are ones about the mind, the body, and the spirit

People are important help them see why

The secret to life is being able to tell someone to go to heck and make them feel good about the trip

Just because someone tells you to go to heck that doesn't mean you need to take the trip

Ask more questions make less statements.

Try everything once. Take options on seconds.

Have a goal of trying make it a nonnegative experience for everyone who meets you unless they are a major asshole.

No quit, keep looking forward.

Know Christ and you'll live a "Blessed Life"

Be polite.
Be efficient.
Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

Pay yourself first, even if you don’t make much money. Save money early so you don’t have to work until you die.

Be an asshole and take what you want. Nice guys finish last.

This is a vet valuable piece of information you learn.

Family is everything. Make everything you do better those around you. Your children are the real reason for your life and our species is dependent on that.

Don't watch 24 hour for profit cable news channels and stay away from social media sites.

What is your best life advice?
 

Be in the moment. You never know when the thing you always do will be the last time you do it. Eg. hug your mom, walk your favorite pet, kiss your significant other, talk shit to your best friend.

Get direct sunshine, even if it’s only for a few minutes a day. You’ll be a lot happier.

Take care of your teeth.

Try to do at least one thing that make you happy every day. Even if it’s a small thing.

Compliment people. You never know what others are going through and complimenting someone else could make their day or save them from doing something harmful to themselves or others.

Agreed! Someone much smarter than me told me to "view my decisions as my future self would and ask if that future self is happy." For me, it took a lot of failure and reminiscing to develop a sense of what my future self would want.

My piece of advice would be if you are unsure of which path to take, take the uncomfortable one and don't be afraid for it to fail.

I'd still be in the faith if christians actually did this.

What is your best life advice?
 

Seek meaning instead of happiness. Happiness is a temporary feeling based on circumstance. Good to have but if you have meaning in life you will never get mired and depressed in the day to day and happiness will come more easily.

I wish I was better at it than I am....I have a lot of room for improvement.

Don’t watch Formula One racing. There are never any passes and the same guy wins every week. That’s the best life advice I have.

One oddity I was taught came from a friend. I said: as a new parent what is one thing you’ve learned that you can tell me, that nobody else will?


He said “That’s easy: nobody cares about your kids. You and your wife will, and maybe a grandparent or three. Don’t expect anyone else to”. And he was right!

Get off the grid.

Don't let Perfection become the enemy of The Possible.

This one took me awhile to adopt. Compromise is not a dirty word or a failure -it is nearly a universal necessity.

I really disagree with that....maybe I've been really fortunate, but there have been lots of people I know who have taken a genuine interest and care for my kids. These can be other family members, parents of their peers, teachers and educators, coaches etc.

I also know that as a child, I really benefited from people who cared for me even though they weren't my parents.

Be selfish

Life as we know it is likely an unplanned cosmic opportunity and you only get one shot at it

So strike a balance between living your life now and working towards some ideal future state

When you're dying you're not going to be thinking about how great your retirement was due to solid planning when you were younger*, you're going to be thinking about all the things you wished you would've done if you had it over again

*you should definitely still plan for getting old
