Should Dale Carter be in the Chiefs Hall of Honor?

Accolades with the Chiefs:
1992 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year
Four-time Pro Bowl selection (1994-97)
Two-time AP second team All-Pro honoree (1995-96)
1996 Sporting News first team All-Pro
PFW and UPI first-team all-AFC in 1996 and 1997
21 INT in seven years with the Chiefs, including seven INT in his rookie year.

Pro Football Reference lists Roger Wehrli, Charles Woodson and Mel Blount as among players he was most similar to through seven years in the league.

Let’s not water down the ROH with all these legitimate players that will need to go in these coming years

jjchieffan 04-30-2023 12:17 PM

Absolutely. He was one of the best corners in the league while he was in KC. He and James Hasty made, I think, the best CB duo in the league at the time. I hated when he left and went to Denver. But the Chiefs knew that it was time to move on. He was never the same player in Denver

WilliamTheIrish 04-30-2023 12:41 PM

I’ll always remember him cutting Tyrone Braxton’s knee. Dirtiest play I ever saw.

WilliamTheIrish 04-30-2023 12:41 PM

And shooting up Westport. Dale Carter was insane.

ChiefsCountry 04-30-2023 12:45 PM

He was Deion Sanders lite. Ran a punt back for a touchdown in his first game against San Diego. Played a little offense as well.

That D would be hella elite in today’s nfl.

Elite pass rush with an elite secondary

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 04-30-2023 12:53 PM

He was my favorite player on the team when I first started rooting for the Chiefs, and I would argue on the schoolbus that he was better than Deion. They were the only 2 CBs, IIRC, that also returned punts. Didn't Carter play a tiny bit on offense just like Deion?

He was elite. His peak wasnt the longest but this isn't Canton. Put him on in!

Kiimo 04-30-2023 01:46 PM

I'm still yelling at this guy to kneel it down in the endzone

Were you turning off the TV when the Broncos were on offense?

Dale played some snaps at WR in that game and chopped Braxton’s knee after a play was over. It was a really dirty play. Marty got asked about it but kind of hand waved it away .

WilliamTheIrish 04-30-2023 01:55 PM

I think it might have been Lionel Washington that Carter cut at the knee

FloridaMan88 04-30-2023 01:55 PM

Remember when the Chiefs had to give him snaps at WR because their talent at the position was so bad. Thanks Carl.

It was Lionel Washington, not Braxton.

seclark 04-30-2023 01:58 PM

He was an excitable young man.

lol whoever downvoted this doesn't remember how many times Dale Carter ran it out of the endzone and got tackled on like the 8 yard line. Guess you're young

I specifically remember him doing it in the Denver game in 92 when we blew a 19-6 lead with two minutes left, although I’m sure there were other times. I actually still have an authentic Carter jersey I got right after the 94 season, but I haven’t worn it since he went to Denver.

srvy 04-30-2023 02:39 PM

Better player than Dante Hall. Wasn't a role model but can't deny the talent.

I just listened to a 2015 interview that he did with a Chiefs podcast.

At the time, he said he was living back in his hometown of Covington, Georgia, with his mother, raising his daughter. He came across as someone who has matured through time; he says he now helps troubled youth.

He admitted he had a lot of regrets about his Chiefs career, said he was a rowdy guy that didn't care about too much. Looking back, he wishes he could have been a better teammate and a better football player.

I remember the play you're talking about. I think at the time we had that sleazy offensive line coach who ended up going to the broncos and training their entire offensive line to hit defenders in the back of the knee. That coach was a terrible human being, which explains why he ended up working with elway and the broncos.

No.

But he belongs in ahead of Dante Hall and a solid 1/3 of the candidates in there that have been blatant charity cases over the years.

It was a dirty league back then.

I'm glad the league has gone a long way toward cleaning that up, but I'm not going to judge Marty and Dale by today's standards.

Bowser 04-30-2023 07:08 PM

I remember Dale going against Michael Irvin on Thanksgiving in Dallas. Irvin ended up getting his, but you could see him getting frustrated with Carter all over him defending him so well. Irvin is the only guy that comes to mind that had a game against Dale Carter while he was a Chief. Tim Brown might have had success as well, but that list is short.

Yep, lol. Forgot about the personal foul on Carter, I just remembered those two getting real physical with each other.

cdcox 04-30-2023 07:20 PM

He was really good for a stretch. Got crazier by the year. We got the best of him by far.

Yep and he probably learned it from Howard Mudd who was a legendary o line coach who had a stay with the Chiefs also.

alpha_omega 04-30-2023 07:50 PM

Absolutely not.

Stryker 04-30-2023 07:57 PM

**** him and Neil Smith - Bronco traitors!

lewdog 04-30-2023 08:00 PM

No way. I think the ROH is already watered down.

Valiant 05-01-2023 05:26 PM

With who we have in already. Yes.

BigRedChief 05-01-2023 05:31 PM

Dante got in because he spends his life going from appearances to another appearance $2k per. Really is personable with the fans. He’s a great guy to talk with. I loved Dante’s runbacks but in no way does he deserve Chiefs HOF.

Carter was an asshole to fans on most days. The arrogance ozzed out of his pores. But, he was obviously a better player than Dante.

Imon Yourside 05-01-2023 05:45 PM

One of my favorite Chiefs of all time, still remember his one handed interception against Jeff George.

Hammock Parties 05-01-2023 05:54 PM
