Sacks!

2021 Chiefs Sack Totals:

1. Chris Jones, 9
2. Frank Clark, 4.5
3. Derrick Nandi, 3
4. Mike Dana, 3
5. Jared Reed, 2.5

31 Total

What are your projections for 2022? Will we improve?

My 2022 Chiefs Sack Projections:

1. Chris Jones, 9
2. Carlos Dunlap, 7
3. Frank Clark, 6
4. George Karlaftis, 3.5
5. Derrick Nandi, 3

37 Total

I'm hoping Carlos Dunlap brings us a second respectable pass rusher and he and Chris Jones together are able to free up the rest of the D-line for a marked increase in sacks this season. Would be great if Karlaftis makes an impact, but seems like Pass Rushers and WR's take a couple years to produce typically. I'd also really love to see Leo Chenal get a few solid QB hits in the AFC West!

1. Chris Jones - 12
2. Frank Clark - 7
3. Dunlap & Karlaftis - 5ea.
4. Willie Gay - 3.5
5. Thornhill, Sneed, Reid, Kaindoh - 2 ea.

40.5 top 5

Add another 3.5 from lucky JAG play. Basically a top 10-15 defense.

If Frank Clark gets 15 sacks, I'll give you a blowjob......from Clay.

Rasputin 08-04-2022 06:36 AM

There is no way George Karlaftis only gets 3.5 sacks. He could get double digests this year.

George Karlaftis: 10.5, shades of DT's rookie year
Chris Jones: 9, but leads the leauge in tackles for a loss with 30
Frank Clark: 7.5
Carlos Dunlap: 5, but turns in on in the playoffs with 3 timely sacks
Leo Chenal: 4
Reid: 3, with an additional 15 QB pressures
Rest of Team: 8

Team Total: 47

He was literally the only quality DL on the team, and every opposing coach knew he was NFL-bound, so he got double- and triple-teamed on every snap last season.

And yet he still led the team in QB pressures, and I think TFL.

He's a rook, so he shouldn't see a double team all season, unless he just rips ass from day 1. He might get 7-10 sacks this year, assuming he gets enough snaps.

There's a lot of optimism in this thread.

I think between 35 and 37 total sounds about right

1COOLDOG 08-04-2022 06:50 PM

Nandi is dandy, but Nnadi is PURE EVIL!!

Yeah, but I don’t think it’s completely unwarranted.

The defense started off ****ing horrible last year, which skewed the full season stats.

Jones being inside for a full season will help.

The defense was significantly better once Ingram came around.

Dunlap was better than Ingram last year. Karlaftis is likely an upgrade or whoever you believe was our third DE last year. Clark can’t be worse and seems to have dedicated himself in the offseason to being in better shape.

Veach made a major investment in the secondary. He typically gets it right in the secondary, so we can expect an improvement there. We were near the top of the league in pressures, but couldn’t get the QB down. I think more of the pass rush issues from last year are on the secondary than we realized.

The linebackers look much better on paper, which should help us get into more 3rd and longs if we aren’t getting gashed against the run.

All of that, should equal an improvement.

I agree for the most part, the only caveat in my mind is the youth of the secondary. We will have at least one rookie, possibly two in our top three rotation. They could take some time to show that improvement.
