Who's fault is this TD score?

I'm not good at distinguishing coverages, but it'd make sense that Thornhill would be helping with McLaurin over the top. Did Ben Nieman blow this coverage? Also 15 was wide the **** open, so it looks like Mike Hughes, I'm assuming he was responsible for 15, was bailed out by his teammates ****ing up. How the **** do we allow 2 guys running wide open when we had 4 guys rushing the QB and 7 dropped into coverage and they only had 3 guys running real routes. Did that fake ass screen route really trick them that bad?

Seems like guys didn't have a ****ing clue what they were responsible for and that falls on Spegs.

Jewish Rabbi 10-21-2021 08:40 PM

Yes, the screen route tricked them that bad. Did you even watch the game? The announcers went over it and why it happened.

Haynes and Nieman both bit on the WR screen. Guessing it was scouted formation/motion/D&D to run the screen.

Bronco_buster2 10-21-2021 09:27 PM

Comes down to the trust. When you dont trust one teammate to do their job, you take false steps in second guessing, rather than sticking 100% to your job.

“The Chiefs defense makes every offense they play look like the 2018 Chiefs”

Is that really his comment on a game where the Chiefs held their opponent to 13 points (0 in the second half)? He didn’t say “most”, he said “every”. I don’t remember the 2018 Chiefs scoring below 26.

FAX 10-21-2021 09:57 PM

This has happened more than once.

I conclude that it may be a flaw in our defensive rules that opponents have found and then exploited.

Spags. Neimen Marcus isn't covering anyone 40 yards downfield. Occasionally you can get caught in the wrong coverage, but we are consistently having blown coverages. My suspicion is that these disguised coverages work a whole lot better with a killer pass rush but we don't have a pass rush to speak of at the moment. You have to compensate.

To be fair, that tweet was right after the TD.

wazu 10-21-2021 10:10 PM

My assumption was Spags, because it looked like Niemann was somehow responsible for the coverage. Spags seems to sometimes just hope that opposing offenses are morons.

T-post Tom 10-22-2021 12:01 AM

I blame Eric Warfield.

What kind of father are you? you should be home in the recliner and when your beer is about out say fetch and have one of your Rugrats fetch you a cold beer.

ThaVirus 10-22-2021 06:33 AM

It's impossible to know without being privy to the defensive playcall, but based on my limited knowledge of x's and o', I'd guess we were in a pretty basic cover 3.

If true, Hughes would be responsible for that deep third and it appears that he just bit on the fake screen which led to two open men who WFT was flooding his zone with.

Direckshun 10-22-2021 06:57 AM

The fact that our DL on that rep was Demone Harris, Khalen Saunders, Derrick Nnadi, and Mike Danna is sheer embarrassment.

God, what is happening.

Red Beans 10-22-2021 08:36 AM

William Burntee... He ****ed that all up.

ChiefBlueCFC 10-22-2021 09:19 AM

Well, without knowing the play call and going by the graphic provided it looked like Hughes and Neimann were caught watching the screen because both 83 and 15 were wide open but if I had to blame one person....

Orlando Scandrick probably

God, what is happening.

Kinda what happens when you wrap up 200 million in two players on the DL and have one who cant play due to nursing a wrist from fapping too hard and the other one just now playing his second game and really isnt all that great to begin with.

Normally id say you get what you pay for, but the Chiefs never get what they pay for, outside of Mahomes.

What was the last big contract the Chiefs gave that actually paid off in its entirety?

Frank Clark and Sammy Watkins had big moments in the playoffs, and superbowl win, so if you wanted to say those contracts are already worth it, I couldnt say Id fault you.

But theres a helluva lot of games played for those two that they either didnt play, or stole the gamecheck.

Jones has been a massive disappointment thusfar, and if throwing your hands up in the air in surprise or playing pitter patter with ball carriers scored points, Mathieu would be up for DPOY.

Chiefs pay out and get screwed. Its so annoying to see our bigtime contracts getting hurries and almosts, and you see other teams big money guys just wrecking games.

As a a side note, dlpgh9 - who would you say was most responsible for us losing to the Chargers?

This play is in Madden. Used to use it to whoop Clays ass all the time. That guy in the seam is always open.

Hammock Parties 10-22-2021 02:58 PM

you son of a bitch LMAO

TRR 10-22-2021 03:06 PM

Ideally, you would have Sneed stick with 15, and Hughes peel off to play the screen. Worst case, Sneed jams the receiver for the first five yards, then hands off 15 (to Hughes) to play the screen. Neimann needs to get a much deeper drop, and Thornhill chose wrong….he should have come over the top of Seals-Jones with Neimann in front.

Good play call + bad defensive line rotation + miscommunication = 6 points.

JakeF 10-22-2021 03:09 PM

We had 2 linebackers running deep with a WR, when they should be up on the screen. Sneed should be running deep with the receivers instead of jumping the screen.

At least, i hope that our scheme is designed that way.

No communication? Don't know their assignments?

Sneed has to see the WR in motion and stuff him at the line of scrimmage. Linebackers need to yell out that a WR in motion is coming. I don't know what the term the Chiefs use but i'm sure there's a word they yell.

Same ol' shit, really. We do that type of stuff ALL GAME LONG.

petegz28 10-22-2021 03:36 PM

21 & 38 should have dropped with 15 & 83 and let 56 play up on 2.

Instead our DB's covered a RB and let our LB cover 2 guys by himself downfield....

brilliant defensive scheme!

Gotta love a front office drafting safeties and trying to turn them into RCB and LCB. Those guys had no business playing corner.

I sure am glad the days of Chiefs staff trying to put players out of position are over....

Wait..

God dammit.

carlos3652 10-22-2021 06:53 PM

I felt like we bit on a WR screen last year and it resulted in a TD against us as well. They ran it the first offensive drive of the game (the screen) and then when they went back to it, we bit and they went long for a td… can’t remember the team that did that to us last year.
