Jesus ****ing Christ this looks like a legit contender to be one of the worst movies of all time. What the **** is Jim Carrey thinking?!? LMAO

In fairness, the drugs took Jim Carrey away some time ago.

I meant why is he trying? Why is he putting forth actual effort for this dumpster fire? He actually isn't too bad as Eggman.

Bump 05-01-2019 11:17 PM

Jim Carey just comes across as one of those celebrities desperately trying to stay relevant by any means. That looks awful.

Fish 05-02-2019 04:39 AM

The character itself looks pretty terrifying.

The music choice is a thousand times worse. 'Gangsters Paradise'? Really? Where's the cringy butt rock that I grew up with?

Sonic looks awful.

The Franchise 05-02-2019 10:56 AM

This didn't need a movie......EVER.

Gravedigger 05-02-2019 02:45 PM

Just like the movie, did this thread need to exist?.... Jim Carrey will be the only bright spot of the movie, like Kickass 2.

Tribal Warfare 05-02-2019 02:53 PM

This looks so bad it could be awesome

Sorry for cluttering up a subforum. Just discussing the high quality content like Game of Thrones or Endgame would get monotonous. We need to celebrate the absolute worst of the worst as well.

Why Not? 05-02-2019 03:47 PM

Thanks for the jinx, dicks. I had never heard of this dumpster fire of a movie until I clicked on this thread yesterday. This morning both my kids told me how badly they want to see Sonic the movie. No way that’s a coincidence, it’s not out for 6 months.

Sure-Oz 05-02-2019 05:00 PM

Wow. They are going to redesign Sonic. I am all for it....

@fowltown: Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be... #sonicmovie #gottafixfast [emoji373][emoji3577]

MarkDavis'Haircut 05-02-2019 05:10 PM

Sonic is one of those franchises just running on fumes.

There was a stretch of time where Sonic games were quite good, mostly up to the genesis. Once they went 3D with Sonic Adventure shit started going sideways until Sonic 06 pretty much killed any good will the franchise had left. Funniest part is they finally started to build it back up with a couple of decent games in Colors and Generations, but then Sonic Boom buried it even worse than 06.

ThaVirus 05-02-2019 06:56 PM

I could never get into anything Sonic beyond Sega Genesis.

Those first couple were awesome, though, and the sounds are iconic. I can hear the Green Zone theme song, the speed ball, and getting close to drowning warning in my head like I'm 5 years old again.

I've actually had the sonic ring sound as my text tone for months now.

MST3K and Rifftrax will have plenty to work with...

The music is appropriate. That song was released in 1995, and the movie looks like it was released in 1995.

cabletech94 05-03-2019 05:12 AM

they'd better get urkel to properly voice sonic is all im saying.....

Bowser 05-03-2019 07:34 AM

This movie is going to make Adam Sandler's Pixels look like mother****ing Casablanca.

Jaleel White just did a Sonic fan film a few years ago. That's who I would have gotten too.

Sassy Squatch 11-12-2019 09:23 AM

That's much better.

Sure-Oz 02-13-2020 11:08 AM

70% on Rotten Tomatoes with 63 reviews. Very surprised.

I'll probably take my kid to see it. How huge was the Sonic character remake now.

Critics Consensus
Fittingly fleet and frequently fun,*Sonic the Hedgehog*is a video game-inspired adventure the whole family can enjoy -- and a fine excuse for Jim Carrey to tap into the manic energy that launched his career.

I'm halfway convinced that first trailer was designed to be as awful as possible so they could go back and 'fix' it for publicity.

LOL like giving someone fake terrible news so when you reveal the real bad news it doesn't seem as bad.

Hmm..I think you may have something there.

"Hey, man, I didn't want to be the one to have to tell you this, but...they're making a Sonic the Hedgehog movie."

"Oh God....oh Jesus God no..."

" Just kidding, buddy. Your wife and children were devoured by a pack of rabid dogs though. "

"whew - that's a relief."

Third Eye 02-15-2020 08:14 PM

Just got back from seeing it with the fam. Really enjoyed it.

Sassy Squatch 02-15-2020 08:27 PM

It's actually doing pretty good business.

It was my 3 year old’s first movie theater trip and my 5 year old hasn’t been to many, so I was a bit nervous. They did great though. They both love Sonic, they play the classic games on their kiddo tablets and have countless Sonic paraphernalia, so it was a no brainer.

I feared for the worst going in, but I’d heard good early returns so I was hopeful. There ended up being a number of genuine laugh out loud moments that kept me every bit as entertained as the kids. There are some slow parts in the beginning where the kiddos lost focus but then it picked up.

Also, there’s a mid credits scene so don’t leave right away.

Edit: I probably should say that my enjoyment of the movie is relative to the fact that it’s a PG, popcorn, kiddo flick that I had no expectations of liking. I'm not saying it’s some great movie, but it’s certainly better than it has any right to be.

Thanks for the info....glad those little ones enjoyed and werent restless. My nephew is 12 and daughter is 4 and both like Sonic alot based on games they've played as well. Daughter has been to 2 movies toy story 4 and frozen 2 and was locked in for both. Hopefully she will for Sonic...if not I'll definitely have alot of popcorn and candy. I liked Sonic as a kid and grew up with the games so I'm glad I have a kids excuse to go. Glad to hear even adults can enjoy it.

Jim Carrey has turned into one old bitter man, kinda like Prison Bitch with acting skills.

I know the entire sordid tale and can tell you that it was absolutely not done for publicity.

If I told you how it happened you wouldn’t believe it.

O.city 02-22-2020 06:59 AM

Took the 6 year old to see it. It was surprisingly good.

Gravedigger 02-22-2020 03:04 PM

It was good, not great, not bad, just good. Easter eggs were fun to see in real time, definitely made with love to the original material.

Sassy Squatch 02-25-2020 09:49 AM

LMAO Not out of the realm of possibility that The Rock voices Knuckles in the sequel.

DaneMcCloud 04-03-2020 12:25 PM

The movie was released early to Digital this week and since I wasn't able to take my kids to see it in the theater, I purchased it this week.

It was way better and quite a bit more "adult" than I expected. Even my 6th Grader, who wasn't really all that interested in it liked it quite a bit more than expected. My 2nd Grader loved it, but she loves almost everything.

All of the performances were really good, especially James Mardsen, who I've always thought was a below average actor because he always seemed to me like he was "acting". But he was really natural in this role.

Jean-Ralphio was the perfect choice for Sonic, IMO, and it's set up to be a long running franchise, as long as Paramount doesn't go all Paramount with it.
