So is this why the new online fallout sucks so much ass? Because the original guys left? Admittedly I'm clueless on this geek shit and too lazy to Google it but I have no desire at all to play the new Fallout.

This looks very promising.

Anyone get a Bioshock type of feel from this?

I told my son the same thing. He agreed but also said he got a Borderlands vibe from it.

I don't think so. I think these guys were involved in the original Isometric RPG "Fallout." I could be wrong, though.

Either way, these dudes are masters of story-telling. They created KOTOR 2 and Fallout: New Vegas.

New Vegas was probably the best thing that's ever happened to Fallout.

Imon Yourside 12-08-2018 05:38 AM

Single player game only, not online so doesn't compete with Fallout 76. I thought New Vegas was incredibly boring, never made it past a few hours in the game. This game looks good but it's not multiplayer so I probably won't have time for it.

That's interesting.

New Vegas was an incredible story with so many potentially completely different endings depending on your choices and the factions with which you sided. It had some of the greatest quest story lines, which in my opinion is the biggest weakness of all Bethesda games.

I never cared about the story at all in any Bethesda games with the exception of maybe Oblivion?

Loved Oblivion and Fallout 3 probably my 2 favorite from each series. I loved Fallout 1 back in the day but honestly I don't remember any of it now.

The core base of Fallout doesn't want a ****ing online mess.

It definitely competes with Fallout 76. I'm guessing 90% of the people that wanted to play it will want to play this.

Because it's Fallout.

Just a different setting.

But with, you know, an actual story.

Agreed. I always enjoy the character building/open world/side quests aspects of these games more than the main quests, which generally range from a mild annoyance to (in the case of Fallout 4) a boat anchor. I didn't give a **** about finding Shaun even before the big twist reveal, and I certainly didn't give a **** afterwards. New Vegas far and away had the best main quest - simple revenge. I'll still play Fallout 4 and Skyrim on occasion, but at this point I rarely bother to complete the story. Best part now is the mods.

Frazod 12-08-2018 11:00 AM

Oh, and Witcher 3 blows them all away. God I wish those people would come out with a new Witcher game - and yes I know there's some card-based combat game out now, but I'm talking a real open world game of the same scope.

I actually gave a shit about Ciri.

Story is usually not a strong spot for these games, it's the exploration and sheer size of the open world and modding. Like I said Fallout single player is old hat now that most play online with friends. A lot of games are competing for single player games and lacking multiplayer. You have Cyberpunk 2077, Rage 2, Metro Exodus and now this. Other than Prey I can't think of a great single player PC game I would want to waste my time on for story.

Yes. Witcher 3 is a technological marvel and a masterpiece of game-making, IMO.

I can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077.

Bullshit.

The core Fallout fanbase wants a single player, open world story-based game.

And despite what you posted, story was absolutely a strong point in FO: NV.

Indian Chief 12-09-2018 04:16 PM

Has a little Bioshock feel to it. Also has a non-cell shaded Borderlands vibe as well.

Count me in. This is the Fallout game I've been wanting since New Vegas.

If they release another, they need to scale it back a bit. I actually never finished TW3 because the side and main missions weren't intertwined in a way that made things truly "open". You should never fail a mission because another mission was successful. Other games since have handled this correctly in changing success criteria based on player-induced changes but to just outright drop a quest and fail it because you did something the game engine didn't expect is an immersion killer.

That never bothered me at all. And of course depending on the choices you make sometimes you have no choice but to fail a mission that conflicts with what you did.

I actually just wrapped up my fourth run through Witcher 3 recently. Did a couple of things different just to see how it would play out. The DLCs are really good, too. I especially like Blood and Wine.

He was, but I found the story line to be a little annoying. Too many puzzles and hoops to jump through.

I started to play Hearts of Stone after wrapping up Blood and Wine, but I've got Geralt up to level 54, and unfortunately the DLCs don't take into account the extra levels you get from completing them, so I basically get no points for completing quests now. I kind of petered out on it after that.

Yeah, I'm just too OCD for it. I just think that if 2 quests are intertwined enough the completing one will fail the other, they should be combined into one quest with a combined (even if it's binary) outcome. I've played other games since TW3 that have done this much better.

Quite frankly, I think AC Origins is better. Sure, they took some ideas from TW3 but it's just a better game.

This.

I played F3 for about 8 hours a day for a month while layed off back when it came out. Played it for a good year after. It was so deep and so many replay options.

Online games depend on online players which usually makes the experience worse and not better...

I've never given a second thought to playing Elder Scrolls online or FO76.

I'd go back and play FONV tonight if I was bored.

Same here. The only problem is that FONV tends to crash fairly regularly during new area loads now that I'm using Windows 10; not constantly, but frequently enough that over the course of a couple of days I get sick of it.

I'll typically rotate between Skyrim, Witcher 3 and Fallout 4.

Fallout 3 was the best in the series, even loved the green phosphorous look. Fallout 76 is pretty much a solo experience where you can play coop. PVP is an absolute joke as it should be.

As a longtime Bethesda fan banned for too much ammo on Fallout 76 I agree, I really don't want to give them another penny of my money. Other than Fortnite Save the world EVERY live service game sucks balls too. Give me drop in Multiplayer like Borderlands and stop with the unmoddable live service crap. /Rant Off

Hoping Outer Worlds has Mod support.

Just as a side note, Bethesda is now charging $100 a year to play Fallout 76. Sorry I put this in here but i'm too embarrassed to bump the fallout $100 err 76 thread at this point. What a shitshow.

I guess it's an *Optional membership, but if you want a private server you have no choice even though they promised it free around launch.

It has a very BioShockian design for sure.

It's like someone took BioShock and Mass Effect and Fallout: New Vegas and mashed them all up.

It's getting mainly 9 to 9.5 reviews so ya that's a good sign, good job Obsidian you done good!

Beef Supreme 10-28-2019 02:18 PM

It's fun, and goofy, and the story is ok so far. The gunplay is ok, not spectacular. The loot mostly sucks with about 8 or so weapons rehashed, but I don't mind that so much, as I'm not a huge fan of always chasing the loot. But the tinkering system gets prohibitively expensive the more you do it. The armor is in the same boat. And I would rather have a system where I could go for the look I want independently of "stats on the gear."

The perk system blows ass, with exciting choices of things like more health or more carry weight. Can games get the **** over the inventory minigames please?

The consumables are mostly reeruned, with 6 different reskins of the same effect, cluttering up inventory even more with many of them lasting for a whole 15 seconds. The weapon and armor mods are mostly undercooked.

The companions are semi interesting, I guess, but you kinda have to decide if you want to take them along for their specific stat boosts, or their personality.

On the whole, I'm enjoying it. But I'm not quite buying the 9s and 9.5s from reviewers. I'd probably give it a 7 or 8. I think maybe Microsoft bought some reviews to boost their gamepass subs.

Can't really argue with any of that. It's not perfect, but it's still exactly the kind of game I love.

BTW, has anybody determined a way to fast forward/click through the dialogue screens? The biggest annoyance I'm having with it is listening to characters drone on and on after you've already read what they're saying. Mouse clicking and escape don't work.

Ran into my first quest ****ing glitch. Rescued the pilot on Scylla, completed the dialogue with him afterward. He was then supposed to deliver medical supplies to the doctor on Groundbreaker, and the quest marker highlights her, but then nothing happens.

I suppose it was inevitable. I’ll have to dig around for the fix.

God I have a couple thousand rounds of everything. In the very early game, heavy ammo was a little scarce until I got around more to loot crates and steal stuff, but that didn't last long at all.
