Another top WR prospect working out with Mahomes today

NOW we're talkin
|
So this makes me think Johnston was also probably asked by the team.
|
Can teams do that?
I've never heard of a team requesting to have a draft prospect workout with their QB before the draft. You would think that the NFLPA wouldn't be a huge fan of that happening. |

I'm starting to get the feeling that the Chiefs are going to trade up for a WR like they did with McDuffie.

I would wager Pat is asking them for the team. I love it.

Amazing that they're willing to do this kind of stuff. Never would have seen it in the dark times. |
Yea this is 100% that these 2 guys are the WR's the Chiefs like and they're going to get Mahomes opinion.
|
Five bucks says this is a topic next offseason and isn't allowed anymore.

It's a win-win for the players and their agents, too.
Either it means KC is going to give up resources to get them or another team is going to get spooked that KC has them on their radar and will take them earlier than planned to prevent that. |

Combine the Johnston and Flowers stuff with Taylor saying the Chiefs want a WR, and the fact that they have done nothing outside of adding depth (James and Watson), and it's starting to look like that's the position they're eyeing in round 1. |

Mixed thoughts on this. Seems like this would indicate WR in the first is a strong possibility however by doing this aren't you kind of showing your cards? Veach has been the best poker player in the draft

It also could be something as simple as seeing the style that Mahomes prefers as Johnston and Flowers are completely polar opposite style of receivers.

He’s ruined for life now. He’s going to get drafted by a team with shit at QB and the guy will always be asking “what if”.

Guess we'll see if a mysterious video of Zay Flowers in a gas mask appears before the draft.
|
Seems a little smokescreenie too.

Remember that Veach like bargain WRs.
This visit isn’t for the draft, it’s research for the future when his draft team lets him go and the Chiefs scoop him up. |

I don't think the Chiefs would be doing this just for a smoke screen. They could just as easily leak that they love Flowers or Johnston.
I just think they want to go WR in round 1 and are doing their homework on all of the top 4-5 guys. |

Compare our treatment of Mahomes against Green Bay’s approach with Rodgers.
Veach & Reid clearly value his input and desire alignment with him. |

There is no way Veach is depending on the current WR's on the roster without adding a high draft choice that they like. |

Someone said it in another thread, but I'll bet the NFL puts in rules against this kind of thing eventually.
It's an incredible leg up in scouting to see how a receiver can jive with your QB specifically. Right now we're doing it because nobody says we can't, so good for us. But I'll bet the NFL puts in some really stupid pre-draft offseason crap soon. Like, team personnel can work together with college prospects provided representatives from other teams are there, therefore terming it a "private workout day" or some shit. I hope they don't, because I don't see any other teams or QBs getting this kind of one-on-one with college WRs. Mahomes is such an incredible guy, man. |

Shows the hand a bit, but you can also use it as a ploy to manipulate the draft board to have receivers go ahead of your guy. Maybe we're interested in Hyatt instead but want other teams to jump the gun, "Mahomes wants to play with him? Lets trade up to get him before the Chiefs are on the clock!"
|
That's an interesting way around the 'top 30 visits' cutoff or whatever those rules are.
I guess having Mahomes people call Flowers people and set up an 'independent' workout operates just far enough outside the hard guidelines? |
Flowers is going in front of the Chiefs anyway so what's the smokescreen there?

I don't know if I'd call this a "smokescreen"
Because it's not like you can run Broderick out there and learn anything it's pretty much only skill players that can toss the ol pigskin around. They could go in a number of directions besides WR BUT if they do go WR they have an informed opinion about them |
Quote:
I don't doubt that the Chiefs were the catalysts but I gotta believe they had to end run it somehow. |
Imagine if Mahomes had thrown the ball around with DK Metcalf, Terry Mclaurin, and Mecole before the 2019 draft.
Veach to Mahomes, " So what do you think?" Mahomes, "This Mecole guy is fast but kind of has no idea how to run routes..." |
Watch Addison be the Chiefs 1st round pick now.

Just another example of how the Chiefs are ahead of the curve and the best organization in the NFL.

DK would be a Chief edit: also Pat should hold a secret, no phones no photos practice session where everyone puts on pads and helmets and then we really see what's what |
Quote:

They have the ammo to go up and get Zay and still get a Jaelyn Duncan or someone at OT like that. DL is deeper so can address in rd. 3. They've been getting visits from Edge players that will be taken late in the draft so guessing they want depth behind George/Omenihu.

Smokescreen, we're drafting Gibbs and we'll trade up to 24 right in front of Dallas to do it and Jerry can suck Andy's dick

I just hope im not somewhere in public if the Chiefs draft Zay Flowers, because i'll probably cum on myself.

I know this isn't likely, but maybe this is a negotiation tactic for Arizona?
KC shows "we aren't desperate for DHop, we can easily fill our need by making a move in the draft". We don't need both, so it gives Arizona pause if they're playing hardball. |
As far as this "smokescreen" stuff goes...ya'll seriously think other teams aren't aware of the Chiefs WR room?
Their biggest need is WR...that's a secret to NO ONE. |

It’s odd that the highest ranked wr in the class has been avoided by the chiefs to this point.

We have a full room right now. We could actually not even draft a WR |
