The Dirt - Motley Crue Netflix movie

This looks pretty bad ass. Not sure how they’re gonna fit it all in a movie but I’m in.

I will check it out. Love me some Crue back in the day.

Thanks for the heads up. I also dug on Vince, Nikki, and the boys.

If they do it right and stay true to the source material, this is going to be Netflix's first X rated feature.

Those mother****ers were real rock stars in every sense of the word. They don't make 'em like that anymore (though in the 70s and 80s they were all over the place).

I thought Vince crashed a Ferrari?
...or was that Yngwie?.

Kock 'em Dead Kid is one of my favs (among many of course)

First CD I ever bought was part of those 'free' CDs from BMG mailers etc; Dr. Feelgood was my first exposure to them.
Red Hot Chili Peppers .....thew that one in the trash.
and Color Me Bad LMAO threw that one in the trash shortly after.

this was right around the time I moved on from pop radio to real stuff when I was probably 12 or so, to more rock and metal. Started getting into VH, Anthrax, SOD, ACDC, Rush, Megadeth etc at that point

It was a 1972 Ford Pantera that he crashed. It killed his friend and Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle. Vince spent 20 days in jail for it.

He's a real asshole. I think they all are, except for Mick Mars.
I always thought Mick was really underrated as a guitarist.

Yeah, but maybe it won't be so bad.

Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee

Kelly (real name Colson Baker) may have rose to fame as a rapper, but don't let that fool you. He's also a very talented actor, appearing in films such as Beyond the Lights, Nerve, Viral and the television series Roadies. The two are both lanky collectors of body ink and thanks to his hip-hop background, Kelly will also be the keeper of the beat by learning the drums for the role!

Kinda weird though that Ramsey Bolton is playing Mick Mars. If he's going to go Ramsey on Tommy Lee he'll have to use both hands.

Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars

If there's anyone that can play a character known for their notoriety, look no further than Iwan Rheon. Recognized for his role as the sadistic Ramsay Bolton from HBO's Game of Thrones, Rheon is also a talented musician himself, releasing his debut EP Dinard in 2015...

he got away with manslaughter. At least he knows it.

“I wrote a $2.5 million check for vehicular manslaughter when Razzle died. I should have gone to prison. I definitely deserved to go to prison. But I did 30 days in jail and got laid and drank beer, because that’s the power of cash. That’s ****ed up.”

Machine Gun Kelly is a better drummer name than rapper name, IMO.

That's kind of nit-picking.

A De Tomaso Pantera was an Italian chassis fitted with a Ford [351 Cleveland] V8, and could be bought at Lincoln/Mercury dealerships.

Crue never really reeled me in. I had a couple of their albums, but it was mostly because they were mastered to really thump on good speakers.

The bass drum on Kickstart My Heart work out your woofers unlike much of anything you'll find.

I was much more AC-DC, Nazareth, Beastie Boys, GnR than any of the hair metal, and Crue was the prissiest of the hair bands outside Poison you could want.

I wonder if they will include the tour when they opened for OZZY.

They had a gross-out contest in which OZZY ended up snorting ants.

Lots of sex and drugs on that tour as well- OZZY said him came in the room and Tommy was getting a BJ- he said his dick looked like a baby leg. When asked if he wanted one next he said-no way he could follow that -lol

I was no rock star but I was a part of that hedonistic lifestyle back in the early 80’s. It was a global thing. Pre-HIV era. Cheap drugs and Qualudes. Lots of mother****ers including me are lucky to escape that era alive. I think the Crue was just living that life a lot more XL than others for that era.

Was at a party in this era. Salt was spilt on a table. I can do more crazy shit than you bravado happened. One guy volunteered to snort the salt up both nostrils if enough money was involved. They went around the party and collected money to see the dude snort salt. I think it was like $65 bucks or so. He snorted it and instantly regretted it. ROFL

I was at a party and the guy's dad did heating/cooling for a living. Down in the garage, dudes were taking straight shots of C02 off a hose. As I came in some idiot huffed a huge hit, took four or five steps until his lungs froze up and he fell face first on the concrete floor. I mean just smashed his head right on the floor, out cold. The next guy in line decided to pass the hose. He tried to hand it to me and I just looked down at the guy on the floor and then stared at him like, "are you really that stupid".

Yes, he was. "No problem, that leaves more for me!"

He huffed two huge hits and went fetal, then into convulsions, throwing up all over himself.

The next guy in line saw this and decided it was still a great idea and then did it too. ****ing crazy idiots. Dumbest shit I ever saw.

It was freon in 10lb cannisters around here. Someone would fill a garbage bag full of freon from the cannister and people would pass it around huffing it. One guy drove his Dads' truck along the (high) curb and smashed up the side of it, a chick huffed some and just fell forward on her face. It's been said that you can't get high off freon but something was ****in' these people up...maybe it was the trash bags.

I don’t know if it was x-rated. There was a lot of sex. I love the music, but the movie sucked. It seemed out of order. They played same old situation before home sweet home. They skipped a couple of my favs, without you & don’t go away mad. The actors didn’t look like the crue.

My problem is they rushed thru a lot of stuff. As to be expected in a 1 hour 45 minute movie.

PunkinDrublic 03-24-2019 07:48 PM

I liked it. I went in with low expectations. I read the book when it first came out and I thought they put the best parts of the book into the movie. A lot of the scenes of Nickie Sixx’s heroin paranoia were from the heroin diaries.

I am not a Motley Crue fan, so I don't have vivid memories of their looks, but I thought they all did pretty well. And I saw an interview with Tommy Lee when he talked about the casting process and that they all felt really strongly that the actor who played Mars should really be able to play guitar very well. That does lower the bar on physical similarities out of necessity.

My general memories of hair metal are not positive, and for the most part they still come off as a bunch of idiots to me, but I still enjoyed the personal stories and what seemed like a whole lot of refreshing honesty and taking responsibility for the shit in their lives.

Agreed.
It's a cheese movie. There are some folks who are upset that it tries to make some bad characters seem sympathetic, but I disagree. It's just q popcorn flick about some 80s clowns doing 80s clown shit. I wish there was more to it, because it is a fun ride, but you're right... it fizzled.

He's been like that for years. Worse than David Lee Roth.

Same here. Huge Crue fan and thought the movie could have been MUCH longer. I was hoping to see more of the process of making a record like Feelgood, but they skipped right over that. :(

Yeah, it should have been a series. Explored that era in music along with the part of our society that celebrated the bad antics of musicians as modern day rebels. Exposing yourself to innocent old ladies in public hotels in not being a rebel. But, that era did happen. Should be told better and more in-depth. I'm sure we will see something like that soon. Lots of good material.

We watched this last night. I thought it was pretty good. I wish they had more about the early days in the clubs. Lots of great bands came up with the Crue. Vince comes off as a real dick, pretty much a perfect description. I saw the Crue a couple of times, Dr. Feelgood, Girls, Girls Girls and then later when Vince and Tommy were out of the band. Their concerts were always brief- 1 1/2 hours and they were gone. Vince sounded terrible, but the stage show and Tommy spinning around were always cool.

We spent a summer rocking out on their demo that turned into Too Fast For Love. Still their best work. SATD was pretty badass too, but they began to go downhill after that. I skipped the farewell tour- I don't like paying for a bands retirement. I might see them when they get back together.

Why did Ozzy have an Australian accent?

Sadly, ego and lack of emotional maturity has ended many great bands,

On the other hand, emotional maturity has also ended/diminished some great bands.
