Are the Vikings really going to trade their most valuable asset for a 27 year old corner when they're looking at a need to rebuild?

I think the ask becomes "What can our picks do to help them move up and get a QB?"

If we offer 2 first rounders but someone else offers a single first rounder at, say, 14 - and they can use that pick plus theirs to get up for a QB they want, they're going to favor the streamlined version.

Let's say you're the Bears with a bunch of cap space and a shiny new Caleb Williams. So you offer Min the 9th overall. And Washington decides this year isn't the year to go after Drake Maye so Min can get them to move down from 2 for the 9 and the 11, isn't that the route you're gonna go?

Meanwhile our poo poo platter of picks, even if it's a pair of 1sts and some 3rds and 2nds on top of it, isn't going to get you up that high. And if you wanted try to package/move/package/move it requires a ton of pieces to fall into place that just might now. So you're left holding your dick at that point.

Put it in the context of what a rebuild for Minnesota looks like. It looks like a top 3 QB throwing to Jordan Addison. We can't help them there, IMO. Not without a whole bunch of help that they just can't be certain they're going to get.

No, it doesn't.

It makes it a bit tougher on you, but you're gonna have to keep drafting anyway. With the way the Chiefs are winning, alot of these current guys on the team are gonna want to be paid accordingly.

Everyone wants to keep our own free agents, which is smart, but really....it's probably Bolton and Creed maybe and the rest are replaced. They could do a Jefferson deal if they wanted. It would cost a bit more than it would cost the Jags or the Texans, because of our draft spot, but they could do it.

Everyone gets up in arms that "we can't pay this or that, we'll lose this player" when we are currently paying a RT 20 plus million a year and a LG 26. You can drop the LG off and pay Jefferson spreading out the money to hit when Thuney is gone.

The bigger issue is gonna be the picks you'd give up IMO. You need those to keep developing as we lose guys. But we've been so good at hitting on mid and late round guys that you could cover it if you wanted.

Good luck finding a competent LT and DT's to try to fill the gap left by Chris Jones with no money and no early draft picks

O.city 02-26-2024 09:45 AM

Well, I'd sign Chris Jones too.

Gravedigger 02-26-2024 09:48 AM

The Vikings are going to try to bend you over a barrel, likely requesting this years 1st, next years 1st, and Lajarius Sneed tagged and traded so they can sign him for $21 million a year instead of what they'd be paying Jefferson. Then Justin Jefferson is going to bend you over a barrel too, demanding more than Tyreek's $30 million per year, and probably saying 32 - 34 per year.

This isn't Madden dude. Put the controller down. You're not making a trade for JJ and keeping Chris Jones

philfree 02-26-2024 09:59 AM

This whole thread seems like an exercise in futility.

Why? Once Jeffersons big cap hits kick in, Jones and Kelce and Thuney are gone.

O.city 02-26-2024 10:05 AM

"If I trade for and sign Jefferson I may not be able to sign my MLB and C".

I don't think that's really a problem?

Chris Meck 02-26-2024 10:07 AM

We need to be growing our own here, fellas, not paying market price for someone else's.

O.city 02-26-2024 10:08 AM

We have 1/4th of the cap this year tied up in 2 players. The RT and the LG.

Yet we're able to field a team pretty easily.

They've bought the RT. Bought the LG.

Bought the S.

Is it just WR you don't wanna pay for?

O.city 02-26-2024 10:12 AM

As DJ has said, I don't think we have the picks to get it done.

philfree 02-26-2024 10:23 AM

I wonder if his hammy is 100%?

Toad 02-26-2024 10:28 AM

The Chiefs have demonstrated that they do not need a super star WR to take the cheese. We simply need 2-3 solid production receivers (including TE) and a competent running game.

A trade for JJ may hurt us more than it helps…
Pass

We did grow our own, then sent him packing when he wanted a record deal for his 3rd contract that would take him into his 30s.

Jefferson is 24, and a 5 year extension would not only land short of his 30s, but like mahomes contract it would look cheap after 3 years when the rest of the market passes it.
