I'm pretty sure it's going to perform swimmingly. Our server loads are insanely low during normal operation, and our new server can handle even higher loads than the old one without any noticeable difference in the user experience. But we'll see...

Sometimes, sometimes not. Intel manufactures several in the industry, generally Compaq or IBM buy the naming rights, the 3040 and 5148 are what (intel calls) 'step codes' - it's basically a way to BUY Intel's product even if Compaq or IBM have renamed them, the ones that Intel sell are 'generally' way cheaper than that of IBM and Compaq/HP. Sometimes they will make the chips specifically for certain servers, yes. But generally 'NO'

Sure - they'd be banned instantly. But you can't un-send their PM's, so the ban really doesn't do any good there.
