Going to continue rejecting the decisions that the Chiefs make in favor of my own bad decisions, as this tends to ensure that the players the Chiefs draft will become stars and make me regret my decision.

I have McCray on my roster, I'll trade him for the 5th pick. I will reject both of the Chiefs trade-downs. I will then make the following trade UP:

Sending my 28th pick (valued at 660) to Pittsburgh for their 25th pick (valued at 828 after 15% penalty) I owe 168 points to Pittsburgh after swapping these two picks.
Sending my 59th pick (valued at 201 after 35% penalty) to Pittsburgh for the 123rd pick (valued at 49 points) I still owe the Pittsburgh 16 points
Sending my 162nd pick (valued at 17 after 35% penalty) to Pittsburgh

1-25 (25th pick) QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos)

I was just sick to see the Broncos get this guy right in front of us. I can't let it go, and in this forum I don't have to. I strongly considered making the safer move and following the Chiefs here since it was going to cost me so much to move up. But ultimately I did what I always do.

4-25 (123rd pick) RB Kenneth Dixon (Ravens)

I somehow missed out on the West/Ware train, so I shopped for a potential successor to Jamaal Charles in the later rounds of the draft. This guy sounded like he had the most potential to blow up.

6-28 (203rd pick) WR Mike Thomas (Rams)

I considered going with Dadi Stephens here, but again, I want the guy to be successful.

7-28 (249th pick) CB Kalan Reed (Titans)

Heard a lot of buzz about this year's Mr. Irrelevant, so taking a flyer.

wazu 05-08-2016 12:09 PM

Now that mine is done, I am honestly just now reviewing everybody else's draft. Apparently I'm not the only one who leans heavily on PFF.

I'll probably have to trade up for a QB next year.....depending on where we are picking at.

I wish you could trade players. I know it would be impossible to manage though.

kccrow 05-08-2016 04:43 PM

The post-draft trade down penalty is also a bit steep, but I understand the reasoning. Losing 10 extra picks to trade down from 28 is a bit heavy though. I'd have to think 5% on a trade up and 15% on a trade down would have been significantly more "realistic." This is very much the reason I avoided a trade down, other than what the Chiefs actually did, like the plague. It's hard to predict how the draft will fall to avoid the penalty.

Same. I just didn't like Hogan enough to keep him as a draft pick. Thought about taking Dak Prescott though, as he reminds me alot of Donovan McNabb.

It's a balancing act it's a tremendous advantage to say what you would've done after its all over.

I'm not sure there's any reason we couldn't trade picks/players between owners. The people that play here all act in good faith, and Rain Man has final word.

I think he left as a free agent, so you just lose him. (Insert losing game show horn here.)

The good news is that you'll pick up Mitchell Schwartz since he came as a free agent.

65% is already an incredibly stupid number, just wondering if we have to come in exact or under...

Edit, nevermind (kinda), I added wrong and it comes to 343.8. In any event, would still like to know if that small amount matters.

Yep, you have to give up an equal or greater number of points. No exceptions. (I tried to do a trade down and believe it or not, I was 0.1 points off on a pretty big trade. I was annoyed because I couldn't get that 0.1 without giving up a lot more.)

Alrighty... Did more thinking and here's what I've decided on...

To start out with, I'm going to accept both of the Chiefs trades.

I'm then going to initiate a trade up with Cleveland to move from 105 to 99 and involves the following picks:

Chiefs Receive
4-1 (99th pick) = 104
4-31 (129th pick) = 43
7-29 (250th pick) = 2
Total = 149

Browns Receive
4-7 (105th pick) = 84*85% = 71.4
4-8 (106th pick) = 82*85% = 69.7
6-28 (203rd pick) = 10.2*85% = 8.7
Total = 149.8

Draft
2-6 (37th pick) - Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh (Bengals, 55)
I felt like the Chiefs needed a guy that could come in and be a #2 receiver right away rather than taking a 4th defensive lineman. Boyd also has return ability.
3-11 (74th pick) - KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame (Chiefs, 74)
I love the Chiefs' original pick here, Russell could come in and start right away either outside or in the slot.
4-1 (99th pick) - Joshua Perry, ILB, Ohio State (Chargers, 102)
I think Perry was damn underrated in the draft and was infuriated when KC didn't move up to snag him. This guy can do everything at a starter's level.
4-28 (126th pick) - Connor McGovern, OG, Missouri (Broncos, 144)
Another guy that slid too far in the real draft, he's got potential to be stud. KC needs competition for a starting guard spot this year and McGovern has the strength to do it.
4-31 (129th pick) - Matt Judon, DE/OLB, Grand Valley State (Ravens, 146)
I'm not sure if Dee Ford is actually going to make it yet or not and the Chiefs also have Justin Houston set to miss significant time. The backups don't inspire confidence. I considered Spence for a while at 37. Judon has Houston-like measurables and great production at his level.
5-25 (162nd pick) - Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado State (Browns, 172)
Higgins is the most underrated receiver in the draft and has starter potential. I double-down on potential at receiver.
5-28 (165th pick) - Fahn Cooper, OT/OG, Ole Miss (49ers, 174)
I felt like KC should have double-dipped on the O-line. They need guys to push for starting guard spots and a backup swing tackle. Cooper fits the bill.
6-3 (178th pick) - D.J. White, CB, Georgia Tech (Chiefs, 178)
Another pick of KC's that I loved is White. Physical for his size, sticky in man, and decent ball skills.
7-29 (250th pick) - Kalan Reed, CB, Southern Miss (Titans, 253)
Can't believe Reed dropped to the end of the draft. I had Reed pegged as a 2nd to 3rd round talent. I'll take him here and, like the Chiefs, go for the hat trick on DBs.

I'll be interested in seeing how Judon and Higgins turn out. They were both high on my radar.

I have pretty high hopes for both. Really liked them in this draft.

Wondering how much of an impact not taking a D-lineman will make though.

I am fairly confident Boyd starts out of the gate for Cincy.

Not that I remember. Big on the guys I chose, though. Honestly, I started this game in the spirit that a very passive amateur who barely pays attention to prospects or college ball could do better than the Chiefs. For the first few years I felt I was doing better than Pioli. Dorsey seems to be doing better than me. This is alright by me.

I've noticed the same pattern. I was beating down Pioli hard, but my 2015 team was probably less strong than the real Chiefs.

Seems as though you should probably re-visit your draft selections.

Playing without a left tackle seems antithetical to success.

Rain Man 05-10-2016 04:20 PM

Left tackles are hard to get. I keep drafting tackles and they keep ending up on the right side. At some point I'll have to invest a first-round pick, I guess.

After drafting Russell Wilson, I've fortunately got a lot of goodwill in the bank. I hope they're more ticked off at Cyrus Kouandjio than at me.

You could have drafted Jason Spriggs at 37 instead of letting GB get the steal of the draft at 48. :D

I was actually very interested in Spriggs, based solely on one film clip of him doing agility drills. Wow. But I've got enough tackles that I can stopgap that position for now and I had other major holes to fill.

chiefscafan 05-15-2016 08:42 AM

No I'll take the hit I don't really like any of the tackles in this draft

After the teams make their final cuts, we'll make our final cuts. So it's coming fast.

If you're not a first-year player, you can add these players to your camp roster since they arrived as free agents. You can also give up a 2018 7th rounder for DB Kenneth Acker.

If you're a first-year player, you'll be picking 53 players from your draft and the Chiefs' roster (excluding players that the Chiefs drafted and you didn't).

1 Carr, Deveron DB 5-11 194 26 2 Arizona State
77 Devey, Jordan OL 6-6 320 28 2 Memphis
4 Foles, Nick QB 6-6 243 27 4 Arizona
69 Fragel, Reid OL 6-8 308 25 1 Ohio State
39 Johnson, Jeron DB 5-10 212 28 5 Boise State
93 King, David DL 6-4 281 26 2 Oklahoma
40 Millard, Trey FB 6-2 247 25 2 Oklahoma
40 Mulumba, Andy LB 6-3 260 26 3 Eastern Michigan
64 Munyer, Daniel OL 6-1 305 24 1 Colorado
47 Randolph, Shakiel DB 6-3 213 R Southern Methodist
75 Reid, Jah OL 6-7 325 28 6 Central Florida
71 Schwartz, Mitchell OL 6-5 320 27 5 California
62 Smith, Terrance LB 6-2 235 23 R Florida State
94 Staten, Jimmy DL 6-3 311 25 1 Middle Tennessee State
74 Sterup, Zach OL 6-9 318 R Nebraska
10 Streater, Rod WR 6-2 195 28 3 Temple
43 Vereen, Brock DB 5-11 200 24 2 Minnesota

Rain Man 08-30-2016 02:36 PM

How are my draft picks looking in camp? Here's an overview.

2-25 (56th pick) - G Cody Whitehair (Bears). Appears to have locked down a starting job at LG. I needed that.

3-11 (74th pick) - CB Kendall Fuller (Redskins). Good camp reports and he'll start out as a nickel or dime back, but there's optimism in the long term.

4-8 (106th pick) - SS Miles Killebrew (Lions). Listed as third-strong SS right now. I'm hoping he moves up.

4-15 (113th pick) - NT Andrew Billings (Bengals). Blew out a knee and is on IR for the year. That's going to hurt my depth badly.

4-28 (126th pick) - C Evan Boehm (Cardinals). Listed as third-string center with rumors that he's not ready to play yet.

5-24 (161st pick) - G Christian Westerman (Bengals). Listed as 2nd-string and reports are that he's looked good.

6-10 (185th pick) - CB Harlan Miller (Cardinals). Buried on the depth chart, rumors are that he'll make the team for his special teams play.

7-24 (245th pick) - ILB Scooby Wright (Browns). Buried on the depth chart, may be a practice squad signing.

7-28 (249th pick) - CB Kalan Reed (Titans). May make the roster as a kick returner.

The early returns aren't exactly golden. We'll see how they develop.

The Franchise 08-30-2016 03:10 PM

Is there a practice squad with this?

Nope, and no IR. You get 53 players.

kccrow 08-31-2016 07:49 PM

We'll see if all my guys make rosters. Looks like a lot of developmental player so far, which I'm good with given no first round pick.

2-6 (37th pick) - Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh (Bengals, 55)

Reports are excellent at this point. It looks as though Boyd will see significant action as a rookie, taking snaps as the No. 3 receiver behind Green and LaFell.

3-11 (74th pick) - KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame (Chiefs, 74)

The jury is largely still out on Russell thus far in KC. It doesn't appear Russell will make an early impact, but we also haven't heard his name called often in the games he played.

4-1 (99th pick) - Joshua Perry, ILB, Ohio State (Chargers, 102)

Perry is firmly entrenched as a backup at this juncture in San Diego. Te'o and Perryman are the main guys, with Dzubnar (2nd year) primed to sub for Perryman out of the gate. Perry and fellow rookie, Jatavis Brown, will get snaps situationally given their statures and play styles.

4-28 (126th pick) - Connor McGovern, OG, Missouri (Broncos, 144)

Injuries to Sambrailo and Weems could mean McGovern gets starter reps if they need extra time. We'll see how it all shakes out, but it looks like McGovern could see some action this season. Denver would much rather develop McGovern, but they have to stay healthy to do that.

4-31 (129th pick) - Matt Judon, DE/OLB, Grand Valley State (Ravens, 146)

With 3 sacks in 3 pre-season games, leading the team in tackles, and a ringing endorsement from Terrell Suggs, its almost a certainty that Judon will see some significant time coming off the bench this season. Judon could be Suggs heir.

5-25 (162nd pick) - Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado State (Browns, 172)

With Josh Gordon back, Terrelle Pryor showing big-play chemistry with RG3, and Corey Coleman now in the fold, there isn't alot of room on the Browns depth chart where Higgins is currently buried. Aside from Coleman and Higgins, the Browns also drafted Jordan Payton and Ricardo Louis. This team will have a hard time cutting Andrew Hawkins, so we'll have to see who makes the final cut.

5-28 (165th pick) - Fahn Cooper, OT/OG, Ole Miss (49ers, 174)

It looks as though Cooper is getting reps at LG and RT for the 49ers on the 2nd team, but who knows what Chipshit will do. As it stands, it looks like Cooper is making the roster as a primary flex reserve.

6-3 (178th pick) - D.J. White, CB, Georgia Tech (Chiefs, 178)

Surprisingly, White has show more than Russell so far for KC. The journey is far from over though, and it appears that White is likely a dime option in his rookie year after the additon of Acker from San Francisco.

7-29 (250th pick) - Kalan Reed, CB, Southern Miss (Titans, 253)

Reed had an interception against the Raiders, and he's going to be given the return duties this week. Basically, the Titans are giving Reed every opportunity to prove he belongs on the roster. If Reed can show that he can at least back up Tre McBride in the return game, he's probably a lock.

From what I've seen, I think Boyd, McGovern, and Judon end up starters in this league over the next few years. The rest is a craps shoot.

Rain Man 09-02-2016 09:14 PM

I'll be watching Judon, kccrow. I was really tempted by him, but passed him up due to need at other positions.

Notes:

I'm keeping some guys that made practice squads on my active roster, including:
Darrin Reaves, RB - Kansas City
Fahn Cooper, OT/G - San Francisco (my 5th round pick)
Jarrod Pughsley, OT/G - Kansas City
David King, DE - Kansas City (since I didn't draft Chris Jones, I need a 4th DE)
Kalan Reed, CB - Tennessee (my 7th round pick, I didn't draft Eric Murray)

Notable Cuts/Not Retaining:

Tyler Bray, QB - I've seen nothing from Bray to warrant a roster spot. I'm rolling with 2 QBs and hoping they stay healthy. Too many rookies to develop and keep over this guy.

Knile Davis, RB - I've sacrificed a bit in the return game by not keeping Davis, but I'm confident De'Anthony Thomas and Rashard Higgins can hold down the fort. Darrin Reaves is just a much better runner and we don't have a practice squad to hold him on.

Bryan Witzmann, OT - Not sure why KC picked this guy off the scrap heap, but he's a UDFA that's spent time on 3 different practice squads. I suppose they see him as a cheap swing tackle option, but I thought Jarrod Pughsley filled that role extremely well this preseason and I drafted collegiate tackles Fahn Cooper and Connor McGovern.

Jah Reid, OT - The Chiefs see alot more in this guy than I do, but I've replaced him with my draft picks.

Frank Zombo, OLB - While I like Zombo in his role, I drafted Judon and am keeping Moses. If we had a PUP, I'd have hung onto Zombo until Houston returned. I like Moses' upside and would have him retaining that roster spot.

D.J. Alexander, ILB - I drafted Josh Perry and am keeping Barrington, a good pick-up off of waivers by the Chiefs. I see no need for Alexander outside of special teams, where Perry can take over.

9/6/16 edit: Decided to keep O'Shaughnessy and instead release Brock Vereen. With Vereen getting his exit papers from the PS, probably not a good sign to hang onto him. Leave's' me thin at safety, but I'm confident that D.J. White could play FS in a pinch.

9/13/16 edit: I listed Higgins playing for Redskins instead of Browns...

Chiefs signed their own to the PS.

If you're a new player, you'll select your 53 man roster from your draft and the Chiefs' camp roster. It takes a couple of seasons before the changes get significant, but it's worth the wait.

Rain Man 09-05-2016 07:06 PM

Okay, here's my roster. Rookies are in green.

QB
Russell Wilson (Seahawks)
Nick Foles
Geno Smith (Jets)
Brett Hundley (Packers)

Pretty strong and deep here.

HB
Jamaal Charles
C.J. Spiller. (Bills/Saints)
Denard Robinson (Jaguars)

Geez. I need Jamaal to stay healthy.

WR
Jeremy Maclin
Donte Moncrief (Colts).*
Kendall Wright (Titans)
Albert Wilson
Rod Streater

Lost a lot of depth here, but doing okay.

TE
Travis Kelce (Chiefs)
Ben Koyack (Jaguars)
Anthony Fasano

Reasonably strong here.

OT
Mitchell Schwartz
Morgan Moses, OT (Redskins)
Menelik Watson (Raiders)
Cyrus Kouandjio, OT (Bills)
TJ Clemmings (Vikings)
Corey Robinson (Lions)
Jah Reid

Lots of quantity, and hopefully some of my young guys develop.

G
Alex Boone (49ers)
Cody Whitehair (#2/25 - Bears )
Christian Westerman (#5/161 - Bengals)

Now there are rumors of moving Whitehair to center. We'll see how that goes.

C
Evan Boehm (#4/126 - Cardinals)

Thrusting a rookie into the starting job again.

K
Cairo Santos, K

Best in NFL.

P
Dustin Colquitt

Best in NFL.

LS*
James Winchester

Best in NFL.

FS
Reshad Jones (Dolphins)
Jordan Poyer (Eagles)
Derron Smith (#5/172 - Bengals)

Very strong and deep here.

SS
Tyvon Branch
Miles Killebrew (#4/106 - Lions)

No NFL starters here, though I like Tyvon and Miles has potential.

CB
Marcus Peters (#1/18 - Chiefs)
Kendall Fuller (#3/74 - Redskins)
Steve Nelson (#3/80 - Chiefs)
Harlan Miller (#6/185 - Cardinals)
Kalan Reed (#7/249 - Titans)

Geez, I'm glad I drafted Peters. No depth and lots of rookies.

OLB
Tamba Hali
Nate Orchard (#2/49 - Browns)
AJ Klein (Panthers)

I can't seem to find an heir for Tamba, but this unit is fine.

ILB
Derrick Johnson
Rey Maualuga (Bengals)
Justin March
Zach Brown (Titans)
Scooby Wright (#7/245 - Browns)

Strong and deep here.

DE
Star Lotulelei (Panthers)
Brandon Williams (Ravens)
Nick Williams

I'm playing two DT/NTs out of position because I can't draft a DE if my life depended on it.

NT
Daniel McCullers (Steelers)
Michael Bennett (#5/173 - Jaguars)
Andrew Billings (#4/113 - Bengals)

McCullers moved up and will be a force in the middle. My line can't pass rush but will shut the run down.

Cuts

In a sign of my recent struggles, I didn't have a lot of painful cuts.

Ryan Harris is a serviceable backup left tackle, but I've got lots of young tackles already.

Mauga was hurt at ILB and I'm deep there, so he's gone.

Gallik at C would have stayed, but he got put on IR, as did Trevor Reilly at OLB.

Rambo gave me good value at S, but his time has come.

Ekpre-Olomu was an injury gamble, but two ACLs in two years and I have to cut him.

I wouldn't have minded keeping a spot for King on the DL, but not room.

And what the heck happened with Dwayne Bowe?

Exactly.

Looks like you've got a strong team right now.

Back in the Pioli era, my team was notably stronger than the real Chiefs. Now, not so much. But that's a good thing.

Rain Man 10-26-2016 07:23 PM

The good and bad after 7 weeks:

Good

TJ Clemmings is starting at LT and Cody Whitehair is starting at C, which helps my offensive line.

Kendall Fuller and Steven Nelson are giving me cornerbacks after Marcus Peters.

Zach Brown has come out of nowhere into a starting ILB role, along with Justin March-Lillard.

The Bad

They're holding Jamaal out and neither of my other HBs are doing anything. I have no running game.

Tyvon Branch and Jordan Poyer were both starting at safety and then had season-ending injuries.

Nate Orchard is on IR at OLB, and I really needed him.

Two of my three NTs are on IR.

kccrow 10-26-2016 08:27 PM

I'll just talk about my deviations from the Chiefs...

Tyler Boyd has looked solid with 20 receptions for 245 yards.
Rashard Higgins has finally seen action the past 2 weeks and has 3 receptions for 33 yards

Boyd gives me a solid 1-2-3 with Maclin and Conley.

My offensive line is a mess.
Fahn Cooper remains on SF's PS so I don't have a backup tackle. Connor McGovern hasn't seen any regular season action to date. Pughsley remains on KC's PS as well. Basically, I don't have an actively starting LG.

The Chiefs' dumping of Nick Williams leaves me incredibly thin on the DL. Bailey is hurt. King is on the PS, and Nunez-Roches just rejoined the active roster... Howard and Poe doing well, but man I'd have nothing here after chosing not to take Chris Jones.

OLB looks good with Matt Judon, as he has 10 tackles and 2 sacks on the year and is seeing increased playing time with injury to Suggs.

Josh Perry has been solid on STs for SD, so my 4th round pick isn't fairing badly yet.

I have just as much a mess at CB as anyone right now. White is injured, Russell was cut, and Kalan Reed remains on the Titans' PS.

Rain Man 10-26-2016 09:08 PM

We all got burned on the Kalan Reed upselling.

Rain Man 01-12-2017 08:26 PM

Okay, time to look at my year.

Summary:

Offense - I made strides toward solving my o-line problems, which helped, and I have Russell Wilson and Travis Kelce. My receivers were banged up all year, and I had zero running game. I was probably a middle of the pack offense in the NFL, pressing Denard Robinson into service at HB and relying on my passing game and Wilson.

Defense - They probably were okay, but thin everywhere. I had a decent d-line and decent LBs, but little or no pass rush, which is fatal. I lost my main planned pass rusher in Week 2 and pretty much relied on Hali. My CBs were good, but all of my safeties dropped to injuries, which created a big hole in my defense. I might have been middle of the pack here, too.

QB
Russell Wilson (Seahawks) - 16 starts, 4,200 yards, 92.6 rating
Nick Foles - 1 start, not needed
Geno Smith (Jets) - 1 start, not needed
Brett Hundley (Packers) - 0 starts

Fine year here. I'm really glad that I drafted Wilson over Donald Stephenson.

HB
Jamaal Charles - 0 starts
C.J. Spiller. (Bills/Saints) - 0 starts
Denard Robinson (Jaguars) - 1 start

Well, I clearly waited too long to stock up on this position. No running game at all this year.

WR
Jeremy Maclin - 12 starts, 44 rec, 536 yards
Donte Moncrief (Colts).* - 7 starts, 30 rec, 307 yards
Kendall Wright (Titans) - 4 starts, 29 rec, 416 yards
Albert Wilson - 5 starts, 31 rec, 279 yards
Rod Streater - 2 starts, 18 rec, 191 yards

Injuries killed me here. I scraped together a starting lineup, but it was a tough year.

TE
Travis Kelce (Chiefs) - 15 starts, 85 rec, 1,125 yards
Ben Koyack (Jaguars) - 7 starts, 19 rec, 161 yards
Anthony Fasano - 9 starts, 8 rec, 83 yards

Great starter and strong depth. I relied on my TEs a lot this year.

OT
Mitchell Schwartz - 16 starts
Morgan Moses, OT (Redskins) - 16 starts
Menelik Watson (Raiders) - 5 starts
Cyrus Kouandjio, OT (Bills) - 5 starts
Corey Robinson (Lions) - 3 starts

I'll move Schwartz to LT and be in decent shape here with him and Moses, along with depth.

G
Alex Boone (49ers) - 14 starts
TJ Clemmings (Vikings) - 14 starts
Christian Westerman (#5/161 - Bengals) - IR as a rookie
Jah Reid - 1 start

Had to move Clemmings out of position. Not strong here as both of my rookie guards were on IR or moved to center.

C
Cody Whitehair (#2/25 - Bears ) - 16 starts
Evan Boehm (#4/126 - Cardinals) - 1 start

Got great performance from a rookie here to make this position a strength.

K
Cairo Santos, K

Best in NFL.

P
Dustin Colquitt

Best in NFL.

LS*
James Winchester

Best in NFL.

FS
Reshad Jones (Dolphins) - 6 starts, 31 tackles, 1 int
Jordan Poyer (Eagles) - 6 starts, 27 tackles
Derron Smith (#5/172 - Bengals) - 0 starts

Two starting-caliber FS's, and both went on IR with less than half a season. A strength degraded over the course of the season.

SS
Tyvon Branch - 5 starts, 24 tackles
Miles Killebrew (#4/106 - Lions) - 0 starts, 1 int

Another starter went on IR early, making me start my rookie.

CB
Marcus Peters (#1/18 - Chiefs) - 15 starts, 6 ints, 35 tackles
Kendall Fuller (#3/74 - Redskins) - 6 starts, 32 tackles
Steve Nelson (#3/80 - Chiefs) - 14 starts, 58 tackles
Harlan Miller (#6/185 - Cardinals) - 2 starts, 1 int, 5 tackles
Kalan Reed (#7/249 - Titans) - 0 starts

I was in good shape here with Peters and Nelson, and Fuller promising as a nickel.

OLB
Tamba Hali - 2 starts, 3.5 sacks, 24 tackles
Nate Orchard (#2/49 - Browns) - 1 start, 2 tackles
AJ Klein (Panthers) - 7 starts, 1 sack, 16 tackles

Orchard went down on IR early, so Tamba and Klein had to step up. Very, very thin here.

ILB
Derrick Johnson - 13 starts, 1 int, 1 sack, 70 tackles
Rey Maualuga (Bengals) - 6 starts, 1 int, 17 sacks
Justin March - 5 starts, 15 tackles
Zach Brown (Titans) - 16 starts, 1 int, 4 sacks, 97 tackles
Scooby Wright (#7/245 - Browns) - 0 starts

The resurgence of Zach Brown made this an area of strength.

DE
Star Lotulelei (Panthers) - 16 starts, 4 sacks, 14 tackles
Brandon Williams (Ravens) - 16 starts, 1 sack, 34 tackles
Nick Williams - 0 starts

No depth, but good starters.

NT
Daniel McCullers (Steelers) - 1 start, 1 sack, 10 tackles
Michael Bennett (#5/173 - Jaguars) - IR early
Andrew Billings (#4/113 - Bengals) - IR early

Pretty weak here. McCullers played a lot, though, so I at least have a body.

Now my question is can I trade my third or fourth for Romo lol. I have no starting QB thanks to AJ being stuck behind Dalton. Also Geno becoming a total bust.

Your team will never amount to anything unless you draft a QB in the first round. Or so I hear. :)

Rain Man 02-27-2017 06:03 PM

I enjoy watching all of you people struggle at QB while I luxuriate in the Russell Wilson era. I have some glaring holes on my team, but I have my quarterback and the rest is gravy.

chiefscafan 02-28-2017 03:28 PM

Rain man don't start you know I was singing his praises. You said because I forgot to draft that year so you said I had to keep that crappy Chief draft. This has screwed up my QB situation but I'm dealing with it. But for the record I would've drafted Wilson.

At least you got Donald Stephenson out of it.

Ha ha like I said you made me take that terrible draft

But I don't because you said he left free agent so I lost him

Rain Man 03-14-2017 10:24 PM

Okay, looking at my draft needs now. With a 1st, a 2nd, and 2 3rds in my pocket, I'm hopeful to fill at least two of my major gaps.

High Need/Immediate Starter

Running Back
Outside Linebacker (could use two starters)
Defensive End
Guard
Strong Safety

Moderate Need/Upgrade Starter

Cornerback
Wide Receiver
Inside Linebacker

Low Need/Depth/Developmental

Offensive Tackle (Could use a left tackle, but I can get by.)
Nose Tackle
Quarterback
Tight End
Free Safety
Center
Kicker
Punter
Long Snapper

Not to take a first round QB. This is an alternate reality game, but that's too alternate. No women or cartoon characters can be on your roster either.

patteeu 03-16-2017 11:48 AM

That was a joke. The trade up rules are in the OP.

And it was a good joke.

But yes, the trade up and trade down rules are in the OP. Given that we have perfect information, it's expensive to do it, but it's been done rather routinely.

Oh, and remember, you can add any free agents to your training camp roster. I don't remember who the Chiefs have signed so far, and there'll be camp fodder, but you'll be able to add Bennie Logan and Mike Person and others. The rule is that you get to add anyone who is new to a Chiefs uniform other than the Chiefs' own draftees. I'll put up a list before our draft day, which will be right after the completion of the NFL draft day.

Rain Man 04-23-2017 07:45 PM

As we prepare for the draft, you can add the following free agents to your roster:

James, Josh OL
Jenkins, Jarvis DL
Johnson, Cory DL
Jones, Seantavius WR
Logan, Bennie DL
Mitchell, Terrance DB
Ochi, Victor LB
Okine, Earl LB
Person, Mike OL
Ratelle, Will RB
Spiller, C.J. RB
Stave, Joel QB
Wilson, Julian DB

kccrow 04-24-2017 03:56 AM

I forget... Didn't see it in the rules...

Can we trade future year's picks if we are moving up? If no, well ok then haha. If yes, then also what is the value (many teams value it close to this year's pick, but its very inexact science)?

Rain Man 04-24-2017 07:55 AM

No trading future years' picks. It's current year or nothing.

I'm delighted to pick up Mitchell and Logan and Person and maybe Jenkins in free agency. I need help in all of those areas.

The Franchise 04-24-2017 02:28 PM

Do we lose the people that the Chiefs cut? I can't remember.

You don't lose people who were cut, but you lose people who leave as a free agent.

So if you had Dontari Poe on your roster, he's gone.

Did we lose anyone else? Jamaal Charles and Jaye Howard were cut, so they can stay on your roster if they're currently there.

According to the rules, you can accept any Chiefs trade. So in this particular case, you will be allowed to accept the trade that the Chiefs made, even if it involves a future draft choice.

I'll almost certainly decline it because of Russell Wilson. A second quarterback would be great, but I have other needs that are more pressing. Dalvin Cook is looking pretty good for me given my needs.

This is going to be a major divergence point for our various teams, but I may be the only person who turns it down.

Don't blame you. But of course, hope you regret it. Irony is if you regret it you definitely won't regret it!

Yeah, I really hope I regret it, but that my pain is salved by drafting a great running back to complement Wilson.

My choice pretty much has to be Dalvin Cook, the way I'm seeing things at the moment. I didn't think he would slide down to 27.

With Russell Wilson starting and Geno Smith backing him up, we wouldn't even have Mahomes in uniform on game day.

7-245

You can accept or reject the following trades. Refer to them by the Trade Identification below in your draft and specifically state whether you are accepting or rejecting these trades before making your picks.

Trade A: 1-27 and 3-91 and next years 1-xx pick for 1-10

Trade B: 3-104 and 4-132 and 7-245 for 3-86

Trade C: 5-170 and 5-180 for 4-139

Trade D: If James O'Shaugnessy is on your roster, O'Shaughnessy and 6-216 for 5-183

Of course, you can trade up or down one time on your own as well. Recall that your draft points must be discounted by 35 percent on a trade down and 15 percent on a trade up.

Rain Man 04-29-2017 10:48 PM

Okay, my team is going to the draft immediately.

We reject Trade A, Trade B, Trade C, and Trade D. We're standing pat (or rather, non-Pat) with the original picks.

#1-27. Taco Charlton, Defensive End

We need a defensive end badly, and he's a good talent at this spot. He's an easy pick for us. The only other players I would consider are Forrest Lamp, Dalvin Cook, TJ Watt, Ryan Anderson, and Reuben Foster. However, I don't need an ILB, there are other running backs available later, and Charlton is at a higher value position than Lamp. I value Charlton above the two OLBs, so Charlton it is. Lamp would probably be my second choice here.

#2-59 - Alvin Kamara, Running Back

Tough decision here. I think there are good running backs later, so I'm overpaying for Kamara, but I don't see a better value. My other considerations were guard Dion Dawkins, SS Josh Jones, RB Kareem Hunt, DE Tanoh Kpassagnon, and DE Chris Wormley, but I've already drafted one DE and I need a RB as bad as I need a guard. Jones is too expensive and Hunt isn't as strong in my mind as Kamara, so I'll go with Kamara. My second choice would probably be Dawkins, but it's a distant second.

3-91 - Samaje Perine, Running Back

This was a huge debate between Perine, OLB Carl Lawson, and running back James Conner. In the end, i decided the Perine was a more safe pick over Conner given his stats and production. But it was close. Other considerations included G Dorian Johnson, SS John Johnson, and RB Tarik Cohen. I really hate to pass up on OLB Carl Lawson, but feel like there's some cheaper talent later.

3-104 - Dorian Johnson, Guard

I need a guard badly and figured he would go earlier. Value pick here. Other considerations were RB Tarik Cohen and OLB Carl Lawson. I'm not going to draft three RBs in a row. Lawson deserves strong consideration because that's an area of major need. I'm really torn on that one, but will give Johnson the edge on injury resistance.

4-132 - Desmond King

Another tough choice. I initially went with Ryan Switzer as a luxury pick. I'd really like to draft him. I also could take Isaac Asiata at guard or Wayne Gallman at running back instead of Perine earlier. Chad Hanson at wide receiver was under consideration as well. But in the end, I think I can use King somewhere in my defensive backfield, either as a corner or by moving Reshad Jones back to SS and putting King at FS. Too much talent to resist.

5-170 - Nathan Peterman, Quarterback.

This was a problematic pick. I couldn't really find anyone I needed who was a good value here. I had a backup quarterback on my wish list, so welcome to the team, Nathan. It was either him or guard Danny Isidora, or TE Bucky Hodges as a pure value play. I pondered trading down from this pick to add a couple of the 7th rounders that I like, but couldn't do it.

5-180 - Caleb Brantley, Defensive Tackle.

I have no need for a defensive tackle, but what the heck. If he doesn't go to prison or get blackballed from the league, he'll be a good deal at this pick. Didn't really consider anyone else aside from Danny Isidora and DT Tanzel Smart and Bucky Hodges. I pondered trading down from this pick, too, but couldn't do it.

6-216 - Ifeadi Odenigbo, Defensive end

I need pass rushers, and Odenigbo may be inexpensive help. I didn't really see any other choices to consider here.

6-218 - Ejuan Price, Defensive End

I wasn't planning to draft so many defensive ends, but he seemed like good value. I really need an OLB, so I was tempted to take Josh Carraway or even Dylan Cole, but in the end I went with Price, who is about the same size.

7-245 - Malachi Dupre, Wide Receiver

What a tough call. I don't really need a WR, but he can develop. I really need an OLB and considered Dylan Cole, and was also very interested in S Lorenzo James and G Collin Buchanan. In the end, I reluctantly went with Dupre.

In my desperation to find a franchise QB, the Fresno roster has suffered in recent years, accumulating holes and missing out on picks Dorsey hit on. At this point, we're re-building. I'm going to roll with Dorsey this year as his draft tended to address holes that my roster has. I also like the upside of a bunch of picks that were traded up for. To me it says they are more "sure" and it's an investment they'll be wanting more from. Really liked Kamara, but worried he’s going to be lost in a deep committee in New Orleans. I am accepting all trades that the Chiefs made and the players as well.

As stated, I’m accepting all trades, but just to make it clear for tracking purposes:

We ACCEPT Trade A: 1-27 and 3-91 and next years 1-xx pick for 1-10
We ACCEPT Trade B: 3-104 and 4-132 and 7-245 for 3-86
We ACCEPT Trade C: 5-170 and 5-180 for 4-139
We ACCEPT Trade D: O'Shaughnessy and 6-216 for 5-183

QB - Patrick Mahomes II
DE - Tanoh Kpassagnon
RB - Kareem Hunt
WR - Jehu Chesson
ILB - Ukeme Eligwe
CB - Leon McQuay III

Here's my current roster before any late free agency moves. Rookies are in neon green.

QB
Russell Wilson
Brett Hundley
Nathan Peterman (Bills)
Geno Smith
Nick Foles
Joel Stave

Pretty good here. Strong starter and a couple of developmental backups. Will Geno stay on the roster? Grade: A.

HB
Alvin Kamara (Saints)
Samaje Perine (Redskins)

Jamaal Charles
Denard Robinson
C.J. Spiller
Will Ratelle

Massive rookie infusion here as we change the guard and try to build up an anemic rushing game. Grade: D, but hopefully rising.

WR
Jeremy Maclin
Donte Moncrief
Kendall Wright
Albert Wilson
Malachi Dupre (Packers)
Rod Streater
Seantavius Jones

Ravaged by injuries last year. I'm hoping they stay health this year. Plenty of depth. Grade: C+.

TE
Travis Kelce
Ben Koyack
Anthony Fasano

Strong and deep here. Grade: A.

OT
Mitchell Schwartz
Morgan Moses
Menelik Watson
TJ Clemmings
Cyrus Kouandjio
Corey Robinson
Josh James

No true left tackle, despite significant investment. But I've got two serviceable starters and I'll likely end up cutting a developmental player before the investment plays out. Way too much mediocrity here for the work I've put in. Grade: C-.

G
Alex Boone
Dorian Johnson (Cardinals)
Christian Westerman
Jah Reid - 1 start
Mike Person

Westerman went on IR early last year. Hopefully he or my rookie ends up starting. Grade: D.

C
Cody Whitehair
Evan Boehm

Strong here. No problems. Grade: A.

K
Cairo Santos

Best in NFL. Grade: B+

P
Dustin Colquitt

Best in NFL. Grade: B+

LS*
James Winchester

Best in NFL. Grade: B+

FS
Reshad Jones
Desmond King (Chargers)
Jordan Poyer
Derron Smith

If Desmond King does well, I can move my all-star Reshad to SS. I was injury-riddled at the safety spots last year. Grade: A.

SS
Miles Killebrew
Tyvon Branch

Don't know if one of these guys can take a starting spot this year. I've had trouble fielding two good safeties. Grade: D.

CB
Marcus Peters
Terrance Mitchell
Steve Nelson
Kendall Fuller
Harlan Miller
Kalan Reed
Julian Wilson

Very young group and ascending. I'm hoping the trend continues. Grade: B.

OLB
Tamba Hali
Nate Orchard
AJ Klein
Victor Ochi
Earl Okine

This is my disaster area, but I couldn't invest in it this year. I'm hoping Orchard comes back from injury and that I can squeeze one more year out of Tamba. Major question mark area. Grade: D- and that may be generous.

ILB
Derrick Johnson
Zach Brown
Scooby Wright
Justin March
Rey Maualuga

I'm fine here if DJ comes back. Zach Brown was a pleasant surprise for me last year. He's been barely making my roster every year since I drafted him and then did great last year. Grade: B, but it's an A if DJ comes back strong.

DE
Star Lotulelei
Taco Charlton (Cowboys)
Jarvis Jenkins
Ifeadi Odenigbo (Vikings)
Ejuan Price (Rams)

Nick Williams

Major investment area this year. I wouldn't mind switching to a 4-3 and my new ends can help, but I'm still probably a 3-4 this year. Star is playing out of position for me, but I'm okay at NT. Grade: D+, but hopefully rising.

NT
Brandon Williams
Andrew Billings
Bennie Logan
Caleb Brantley (Browns)
Daniel McCullers
Michael Bennett (the other one, not the good one)
Cory Johnson

Great shape here with Brandon Williams, and hopefully I can get production out of my rookies and free agents. Billings was in IR all season, so I'll get him back. I suddenly have lots of bodies here. Grade: A.

DECLINE Trade C: 5-170 and 5-180 for 4-139
ACCEPT Trade D: James O'Shaugnessy and 6-216 for 5-183

MY TRADE UP:

To Jacksonville
5-170: 23.4*0.85 = 19.89
5-183: 18.2*0.85 = 15.47
Total = 35.36

To Kansas City
5-148: 32.2
7-222: 2.6
Total = 34.80

1-010: Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech (10 KC)
2-059: Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova (59 KC)
3-104: Dorian Johnson, OG, Pittsburgh (115 ARZ)
4-132: Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson (142 HOU)
5-148: Blair Brown, ILB, Ohio (148 JAX)
5-180: Aaron Jones, RB, Texas El-Paso (182 GB)
6-218: Stacy Coley, WR, Miami (219 MIN)
7-222: Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State (224 CLE)
7-245: Christopher Carson, RB, Oklahoma State (249 SEA)

I felt like I really had to go out and address the QB position this year. Losing Foles in FA hurt since he was my only reserve QB last season. I have the now and the future in Smith and Mahomes. Not sure how #3 is going to shake out at the moment as it looks like Bray, who I cut, will be #3 and Stave will be the odd man out. I may be rolling with 2 QBs once again.

I passed on Chris Jones last year, so I'm weak on the defensive line. I'm not all that excited about KC's pick of Kpassagnon, but perhaps they can turn him into something more than an athletic freak. I didn't accept a couple of KC's mid-round trades because I really needed to double-dip on the defensive line, so I went out and got a guy who I feel is athletic and will be a rotational player early for Houston with later starting potential in Carlos Watkins.

I limped through last year with practice squad types on my roster at OG, so I went and got Dorian Johnson. Johnson was one of my favorite guards in this class and he was highly touted among scouts. I really think he starts day one for Arizona and never looks back. I really need a starter at guard opposite Tardif. I'm hoping my 2016 pick, McGovern, starts for Denver this year as that would really solidify the group since I'm not all that thrilled with Tardif at this juncture.

Another reason I passed on some mid-round trades was that I wanted to use the ammunition gained in the O'Shaughnessy trade to go up and get Blair Brown. I'm hopeful that my 4th rounder last year, Josh Perry, gets a shot this year and that Brown also gets one, otherwise my ILBs look pretty bad with DJ out. If nothing else, Brown looks like a guy that will eventually replace Paul Posluszny at SLB in Jacksonville. I could be left with a bit of an issue at ILB once again in 2017.

I was unhappy with my situation at RB after watching Charles go and West look bad last season. I stood pat with #180 to take Aaron Jones, who I think has Shady McCoy type ability and will push hard for that starting job in Green Bay. I made a bold move in picking up Christopher Carson out of Oklahoma State that was drafted by Seattle. This was a guy that Pete Carroll personally wanted to draft, and if this kid holds true to being a battering ram like he started to show last season, he could be a big-time piece for the Seahawks and will boost my running game with 2 power backs.

I used my 6th rounder to pick up a developmental receiver in Stacy Coley. If he can find the passion for the game in the NFL that he lacked in college, he could end up being a steal for the Vikings and, with all their youth at WR, could push for quite a few reps early on.

Call me an idiot, but I just don't care that much for Cairo Santos. I think he lacks the leg power, given his stature, to drive the ball when it's needed most. He's not very good outside of about 45 yards. I'm going to get a big-leg kicker and call it day. Welcome to KC, Mr. Gonzalez.

We accepted all of the Chiefs free agents to our roster for now. I'm sure most of them will be gone when we have to cut down from 90 to 53. It sucked losing Foles and Poe.

We accepted the following trades: Trades A, C and D.

We rejected the following trades: Trade B.
