Well, at least Phil isn't going to finish last anymore

Gary Cooper 07-16-2021 11:06 AM

The British Open has become too easy for modern pros. If the wind isn't very heavy, these players can dominate these courses. I hate seeing all these low scores in a major.

Definitely blocked that out about 5-8 yards right of his middle green target. Even playing for the slope would have been pretty aggressive with that lead.

My reaction would have been more surprised than his...then a fist pump followed by deafening laughter.

Then on #18 he hits driver with 3 stroke lead (not horrible) but then he bites off more than he can chew with his layup from the trees and goes into the water. Really bad course management but it didnt matter. Champ.

Amazing story that he's even going to play. And he must think he can compete too because he's not going out there to embarrass himself.

srvy 04-07-2022 10:42 AM

Blue Valley North HS golfer Harry Higgs early leader at the masters. Tiger on his heels at 1 back at -1.

Stewie 04-07-2022 12:08 PM

Tiger looking good. Much better than the last time I saw him play at the father-son tournament. Even par through 11, 2 back.

Stewie 04-07-2022 02:30 PM

Tiger finishes -1. What a round of golf. Had some hiccups, but in Tiger fashion he overcame with some great shot making.

Leaders at -4.

I’m rooting for him but let’s see how his leg holds up after today…Anyway you cut it though,it was a remarkable round..

Jerm 04-07-2022 08:03 PM

Incredible round from Tiger…curious to see how he does tomorrow, has the afternoon tee time and conditions are probably gonna be brutal if the wind and weather does what’s being predicted.

Mr. Plow 04-08-2022 12:49 PM

Rough start for Tiger. 3 bogeys out of the first 4 holes.

Pablo 04-08-2022 12:53 PM

Yeah then takes his tee shot on 5 to the right. Not so nice

Mr. Plow 04-08-2022 01:02 PM

Question unrelated to the Masters.....

Has anyone been to Big Cedar in the Ozarks? Got a golf trip planned for over Fathers Day in June with a bunch of guys (8 of us) and we aren't staying on property. That means we can only schedule tee times when we are 30 days out. I keep looking online for under 30 days tee times and it shows none available. I'm getting a little concerned about us being able to get on the courses when our trip comes up.

Just wanted to see if anyone had experience with going & getting tee times.

Pablo 04-08-2022 01:04 PM

Welp, another bogey and he's gonna need a miracle run now.

Mr. Plow 04-08-2022 01:05 PM

Make that 4 bogeys out of 5 holes. Close to the cut line.

Kman34 04-08-2022 01:13 PM

The course conditions are a bitch right now..

Stewie 04-08-2022 04:53 PM

A good round by Tiger. Sits at +1 for the tournament. There were some high scores from favorites that shows how difficult the course played. Scheffler is on fire and is 5 strokes ahead of the field.

KC_Connection 04-08-2022 08:50 PM

Tiger being in the top 20 after two rounds is incredible. Has no real chance to win due to Scheffler largely (who has easily been the best player in the world over the past 6 months), but no shame in that.

Yeah, Scheffler seems to be unbeatable. Tomorrow is supposed windy, dry and fast. That can really shake things up.

Scottie seems like a player that in 3 years will drop to relative obscurity after this obscene run ends. Similar to Koepka and never to be heard from again.

Stay there every summer. And you can’t get onto Top If The Rock unless you book way in advance or are willing to pay like $200 for your round. There are nearby courses like Buffalo Ridge or the new Tiger course. Tigers course sits on the old Murder Rock, which was a great course and was $50 to play.

Ridge and Rock were both bought by Bass Pro founder Johnnie Morris in 2013. He immediately closed Rock, jacked up the price in Ridge, and built Too Of The Rock which is insanely expensive. (Tigers new course which Morris developed ain’t cheap either)

Morris is a douchebag catering to wealthy boomers and has priced out families looking to play golf down there.

Thanks for the info. We've got a place through VRBO to stay at, but I looked at staying on property to be able to book tee times. It was ridiculously expensive.

If you look at the history of modern golf, most good but not great players do almost all of their winning and close contention in majors in about an 18 month span.

Harrington
Molinari
Nick Price
Mark O'Meara
Tom Lehman
Justin Leonard
Fred Couples

And honestly, guys like Spieth, McIlroy, and Koepka have followed a similar pattern.

Other than Tiger Woods, nobody really wins majors at the rate that Spieth, Rory, and Koepka did for very long. Doesn't mean they are going to completely fall off the map (and those three haven't either even though Spieth is lost right now).

Scheffler obviously is on a hot streak and isn't going to win at this rate forever but he's also a huge talent (more so than Spieth or Koepka, I'd argue) and he's almost certainly not going anywhere for a while.

It's not even a rate, though. It is compressed into a short time frame and then it's over. You aren't going to see guys winning majors over 15+ year spans like Tiger, Phil, and Els anymore.

Well Tiger and Phil at least are arguably two of the best 10 golfers ever. If another top 10 golfer ever talent-wise came along at some point, I'm not sure why that wouldn't happen.

srvy 04-10-2022 12:34 PM

I watched that Jim Nance Interview documentary thing before the Masters it was pretty good. One thing I noticed that was very odd in my opinion when they were in the Butler Cabin to give tiger the green Jacket and maybe it was nothing. Nick Faldo was last year's chap and he is there to provide him with his jacket. In past Masters, I always see the coat rack with the jacket freshly pressed hanging and past winner takes off the rack and holds it for the new champ. Nick Faldo was seated the coat on the floor next to him. He drags it across the carpet and stands to place it over Tiger's shoulder then proceeds to rip him about his red shirt horribly clashing with the green Jacket.

It may have been nothing but seemed classless and odd. I always thought Faldo was a arrogant doofus anyway.

scho63 04-10-2022 01:56 PM

Hard to say that a guy who birdied the 1st 2 holes choked, but Smith making bogey on the next 2 was close. Especially when Sheffler was struggling.

Now that he's only playing in select tournaments, Tiger is going to get showered with love and attention even more. He moves the needle for ratings and interest.

Based on what he told Sky Sports today, he's going to skip the PGA Championship and US Open and play in the British Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews.

Yes and I thought he would withdraw as his legs weakened. That he made the cut and finished up on a very hard hilly course showed some grit.

Weekends with Spieth in contention are always entertaining. The guy goes from missing an 18 inch putt on 18 yesterday to nearly holing a bunker shot to win it today.

It was also crazy that Patrick Cantlay followed with a bunker approach shot in the playoff as well.

He's 25 years old, so I'm going to guess no on that.

Koepka is also top 20 in the world right now as it is.

Koepka has four wins in his career other than majors. Great player but hes still the worst player of all time with 4 majors.

Probably the case, but that's a pretty incredible career even if he never wins another tournament.

Rory picked up an extra million bucks on Sunday by playing so great and jumping up so many spots. Not a bad day in the sun at an incredible course.

A money grab by players with name recognition but without the skills to compete at the top level of the Tour anymore.
