I'm gonna buy a thrash/metal/wtfever vinyl in your honor. What do you suggest in the way of mainstream-ish shit that I can find at a record store in KC? The hunt is most of the fun after all. Keep in mind I thoroughly enjoy your "Breathe Grease" for the song alone(video is the tits though) and I do enjoy some stoner doom stuff.

I'd seek out Power Trip which shouldn't be too elusive. Both studio albums, Manifest Decimation and Nightmare Logic, are some of the best modern thrash to come out.

Other modern thrash bands you can't really go wrong with (no particular order):

Warbringer
Municipal Waste (Breathe Grease)
Iron Reagan (shares the same vocalist as Municipal Waste)
Lazarus A.D.
Toxic Holocaust
Vektor (more on the progressive metal side of thrash)
Lich King
Havok
Evile

EDIT: I should caveat this by saying I'm not sure if all these bands have releases on vinyl. Seems over the years metal was fully entrenched in releasing to CD while punk/hardcore always stayed with vinyl. Seems as little as a few years ago there were only a limited number of plants in the US even doing pressings. That's likely changed though with the resurgence in vinyl. A lot of these older metal releases are likely being reissued on vinyl if not originally.

Thank you kindly for the thoughtful advice.

Just want to point out, WalMart actually has some exclusive Metallica pressings of the first 5 albums on colored vinyl that are highly sought after and getting sold out and as a result are catching good prices online. I have a tub of Justice and Black Albums that I still have to sit on, as it seems more of those got pressed than the first 3...but I have sold all the copies of the first 3 and used the profits as a down payment for a ****ing car...

so go to WalMart and pick up some colored Metallica vinyl. Mastered by Chirs Bellman, they sounds AMAZING and if you decide you don't want it or run into a money crunch they'll only appreciate in value (as long as they're still in great condition)

Yessir. I kept one copy of each of the first 3 albums. Master of Puppets DOMINATES on vinyl. ****ing Cliff, man...

Highly recommended.

10 minutes into this and wanted to share, its a bit long for this place but what else are you doing for the next 45 minutes?

These guys were unreal, I'll be damned if Keenan doesn't have a uniquely intense presence about him

Yeah, that's the one I really want. I'd be fine with Kill Em All, but if I have the couple I have plus MOP I'll be satisfied with my Metallica collection.

They're very good live. I'd recommend seeing them if you get the chance. Really just about seeing Danny Carey do the shit he does in person IMO.

I kept a copy of the Black Album back for myself, it sounded great - but I haven't heard it in so long, songs like "Through the Never" and "My Friend of Misery" were standouts, so I'm glad to have it (I mean...) So I have the first 5, Jump In the Fire 12" and the newest, Hardwired to Self-Destruct on red vinyl. I'd be cool with a reasonably priced Garage Days or Garage Inc, those songs were the shit. "The Wait", "Helpless", "Crash Course in Brain Surgery"...I used to slam those mother****ers.

Black album was one of the first ones I ran thru as a 9 year old or so. Sitting in front of my dad's reciever playing that CD and Supertramp and Queensryche as loud as my little ears could take it. You have S&M on vinyl? Dunno if live albums are worth or not.

LOL I think I'm gonna purchase this for shits and grins:

Finished that a few minutes ago, it just kept building and building and getting more intense, spiraling further out of control by the minute

No band is ever really better than when they're just breaking out, and yes they definitely qualify as Bucket List even now

I LOVE Crime of the Century and Breakfast In America. And i don't have S&M on vinyl but I if came across it for the right price, I'd grab it - I really like 'No Leaf Clover" and that version of "Ktulu" is fantastic. Metal and symphony orchestras actually go together extremely well...

Yeah I got an original BIA at Vinyl Undergroud at 7th Heaven for $9 a few weeks ago. Plays great, very minimal surface noise for a 45 year old record. Sadly the Jethro Tull Heavy Horses I got was trash, but for $7 it's worth the display art.

Del looks just like the barber my dad took me too when I was 10. He had a Bluegrass band also and would play concerts in the park back then. When I want to listen to some good old American Bluegrass DMB is my go to.

GodDAMN, I LOVE that record.

"Rain On The Scarecrow" makes my heart hurt and tears come to my eyes...

"Paper In Fire"...

This one and Lonesome Jubilee are masterpieces.

Yeah, that intro to ROTS gets me ****ing goin'. The whole album is great start to finish, bet I've listened to it 500 times.

He really got a lot of bad flack for his uncomfortable dancing in those MTV videos. Scarecrow was a great album. I thought Scarcrow, American Fool, and Big Daddy were pretty solid albums of his.

Happy to hear you enjoyed it, and yeah, huge blow to fans and peers to learn of Riley's death.

Music is so subjective, especially the heavier stuff, that there's not much middle ground between love and hate, making recommendations trickier, haha.

Not speaking directly to you, but anyone who's building out a collection or is interested in discographies, pressing info, etc. discogs.com is a really good resource if not already utilizing it.

I've probably bought 200 albums on Discogs in the past couple of years. It's an amazing resource for filling out your back catalog, especially stuff that's hard to find or out of print.

I've yet to purchase anything from their marketplace, but I do use it a lot for pressing info and as a valuation metric of my collection. Another thing I love about it is the band member links to see what other projects they've been part of and such.

I'm getting better about it now, but for many years I would only purchase 1st or limited pressings in the year they were released. If I missed it when it came out, I missed it. Its more of an obsessive compulsive quirk than an elitist behavior thing for me though.

My OCD thing is that I have to have every studio album for every artist in my "A" list.

Some of those bands have been playing since the 70's and their early albums tend to be smaller releases or even downright obscure. Discogs has been invaluable in getting copies of albums that would be otherwise unobtainable for me.

Then, WYWH and Piper.

Then The Wall and Saucerful.

I like Relics a lot, too.

I don't think Dark Side makes my top 5 Pink Floyd list, to be honest.

It's also great for people like me who have 8000 records and 10000 CDs to keep track of what versions of what albums they actually have.

I went through a period of buying shit I already had because I didn't realize I already had it lol

Yeah, the version info is exhaustive. It's an amazing resource for sure.

Been a fan since I was prolly 14. The Moon and Antarctica is prolly my personal fave album of theirs and half it on vinyl, but they've got a unique sound for sure.

Jack White. This was his first solo album after he split up with his wife I believe. It's a winner.

CD only release, but this new Bushido Code slaps

Cheesy AF, but its cool to see music videos still being made, especially in the vein of that acid rain!, nuclear waste! imagery that I loved about 80s/90s metal growing up

Love Modest Mouse....personal favorite album is "We Were Dead before the Ship Even Sank", but their first album "The Lonesome Crowded West" is fantastic as well.....

My favorite Modest Mouse album would be The Moon and Antarctica as well. Played the shit out of that, as well as Building Something Out of Nothing.

Good News For People who Love Bad News got play time as well, but then my Modest Mouse phase died shortly after.

Awwwweeee.

You the man!

PS: I'm 4 tracks in on writing Album #2, but thinking of doing the "singles" route this time as people just don't have the patience for full length albums anymore.

My fav album of all time.

I just found a 1973 vinyl of Dark Side of the Moon at my moms house.... It's in decent shape too.

Send me the backtrack, minus guitar, and let me throw something to you. I'll sign whatever to protect you.

Maybe include the guitar but way down so I can het your headspace, your mood, andcatch your groove.
