Was there someone in here who had unlimited access to CarFax or similar reports? Holla at ya boy, I'm looking at something for my wife.

Okay, I need a little help here. Hopefully someone can explain to me like I'm 5.
I brought headlights for my 2013 Charger, and I know that the headlights are definitely compatible to the vehicle. No issues there. The headlight that was purchased can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084BN2CGC...roduct_details The lights work just fine, however, can someone explain to me what they mean by "Daytime Running Lights Require Wiring Into Existing Lighting"? Mainly, the high beams and low beams lights work fine, but the LED Daytime Running Light is not working. So reading it, it says that it requires wiring into the existing lighting. Can someone explain to me what it is trying to say? Thanks in advance. |

I think I got it figured out though, since I went to the dealership (who originally installed the new headlights but didn't do the wiring aspect of the daytime running lights) and explained what was going on. So, they'll fix it. |
Thinking about putting a new exhaust on the truck (2021 Ram Limited) for Christmas.
Circling around a Flowmaster Super 44 or a Borla S Type. Anyone have any experience w/ them? I've never swapped out exhausts before but there's no reason that V-8 shouldn't have a nice tuned note to it. Just a good throaty rumble at idle that growls a little if I open the throttle. |
Quote:
I'll lead you down the same path i led Marcellus down and he seemed pretty happy. Same stuff we use in the shop. Matter of fact, i just received an X-pipe and (2) Venom 250 Series mufflers to build the exhaust on this '70 Coyote Swap we're building. https://www.blackwidowexhaust.com/ They even have a nifty page where they have hundreds of user submitted exhaust clips. You might even find your truck in there. And you can buy them through me. Or not. Which ever. But they have a great sound. |
Quote:
I feel like I agree with the consensus on the Flowmasters though - they do sound...I dunno....hollow? Tinny? They're just a hell of a lot cheaper. And I think I really like that rolled 4'' high polish chrome tip; it's gonna look damn sharp on the painted black bumpers. Mostly I was just hoping someone would talk me INTO the cheaper option. Very few seem inclined to do so. So how do your guys compare to Borla? Any sort of general statements? I know some systems are designed to sound 'sportier' and that's not really what I'm looking for. I don't need it to necessarily sound like a corvette with that almost snarl noise. I'm looking for something pretty guttural. So what's your elevator pitch for these guys? What might make them stand apart from Borla? Looks like I'd probably be most interested in the Venom 300 (from listening to their sound clips). Maybe the 250. The Race and Widowmakers are too harsh, IMO. |

Detox is faster than me.
FWIW I got caught watching a goddamned Growling Sidewinder video that notorious turned us onto. That ****er. ROFL |
I would do the research on a ram forum. For me the biggest thing is always if it drones at highway speed. My G8 had an awful drone at 65-75 with magnaflows. It was so bad i bought some different ones after about 2 months. And keep in mind its not going to sound as throaty when it drops 4 cylinders on the highway. Ive heard of people removing the resonators to help that too.
Also please update us when its done! I want to know how noticable it is in a newer truck like that. |
Quote:
Hmm..... In either event, ain't too worried about re-sale. Quote:
|
Quote:
Don't want to remove the resonators. I have what amounts to pro forma exhaust on the Camaro and that shit literally shakes pictures off the wall. Don't need that on the pickup. |
Quote:
What i can tell you is that i've had a number of local guys who absolutely hate the sound of the Flowmaster stuff. "Tin Can" would be a good way to explain it. Mostly it's the issue of exhaust drone. Flowmaster is notorious for it. I've known people who regretted putting Flowmaster on. But to each their own, right? We were big supporters of Spintech for awhile. Then we had one of our local customers pull up in his '66 coupe. Engine is nothing too special, a 331. But goddamn his exhaust sounded mean and he put us on to Black Widow and we've been using it ever since. The "No Drone" thing is the biggest sell point. As their slogan says, "All Tone, No Drone". It's an aggressive sounding exhaust. I have no sales pitch for them. (Quite frankly, i barely make anything off of selling their product so i could really give a damn if i personally sell it or not). Just wanted to hand out some anecdotal info. We're dead smack in the middle of building an exhaust system right now using two of their mufflers. |
Also, some sage advice for you....make sure that whomever is doing the install uses a decent exhaust hanger.
Seems like most muffler shops just want to use those cheap ass wire hangers and good god they're awful. They rust, they snap...they're the reason you see cars with tail pipes that wag like a dog tail. Make sure your installer uses a good hanger. We like to use one made by Pypes Performance Exhaust. Part number: TPHV6. There's some billet shit we've used too in the past if you want to get real fancy, but id have to dig up that P/N |
So when people talk about 'drone' - what are they referring to in your experience?
Because in the Camaro I had a really bad harmonic resonance at about 1200 RPM where the whole cabin would 'fill' and you could really feel it. I'd have to feather the throttle one direction or another to get out of that rev range anytime I hit it. Obviously that's no bueno; made the car damn near undriveable (I finally took the pipes out past the rear axle to get rid of it; partially to pass inspection but also just to make the vehicle more driveable). Or are they referring to just that thrum that comes from sitting at a cruising RPM. Because as far as I can tell...that's just noise. It's what you ask for when you get an aggressive exhaust. |
Quote:
Even on this coyote swap i keep mentioning we are using resonators. It sounds like what you are describing with your Camaro is a drone issue. Im guessing your exhaust is custom from the headers back? |

I used to be a run it until it dies guy, but I'm keeping a decent pickup around for the farm for reliability purposes. So for whatever it's worth here has been our experience. Dad's 2019 5.6 L with 56,000 broke a lifter Moms 2022 with 2,000 killed a transmission My 2021 6.2 L with 21,000 broke a lifter All within 6 weeks of each other. Now, I know that if they all started at the same time, it wouldn't be that bad, but I was feeling kind of picked on. I also know they're GM, not RAM. I also know it's a small sample size and not representative of any larger group of vehicles. Nonetheless, I've decided I'm not going to run anything out of warranty. My pickup has a fleet warranty on it so it gets 100K drivetrain, and the wife's car I bought an extended one on. We still have a farm vehicle for the wife that is out of warranty, but once it goes away, I'll probably keep that one warranty too. Oh, one more anecdote: My MPCI adjuster broke a lifter in his RAM about the time I got my pickup back out of the shop. I'm not telling anybody to do anything, but I'm going to keep shit in warranty. |

Side note, you can crush those things against rocks/tree stumps until they pancake flat and they will still work. I haven't put that to the test, BTW. |

What are your thoughts on removal of the new particulate filters on the new 992? The addition of the twin turbos makes it a ridiculous beast of a vehicle, but the sound is a bit muted. Naturally aspirated always sounds better, but those twins are ridiculous. The next level up from base (S) can hang with older model Turbo S fercrissakes. |
Quote:
The reason is that when my Ford was about 5 years old, every stupid little gadget in the world broke on it. The power running boards jammed because their gears all stripped out. The sliding rear glass went out. The ****ing fuel door elastic broke so the door wouldn't stay shut (they wanted $800 to repair it because you had to take the body panel off the bed to get to the stupid little rubber piece). A couple major AC components failed. The catalytic converter plates in the front shattered so it rattled like a paint can when it idled. The rag joint got loose so it gave me a 'hitch' when I started moving. Mostly I ****ing hated that piece of shit Ford. Worst vehicle I've ever owned (though the engine was great; started right up every time). That thing got driven like a minivan and yet something seemed to break on it every month. I didn't fix any of it (except the AC). Because the thing still ran and it would've cost like $8 grand to have it all done. And by the end - **** that truck, I wanted it to be uncomfortable. I wouldn't spend money on it out of spite. Now fast forward to the Ram with even more tech and now a giant touch-screen that controls most of what goes on. If that touch screen fails, I'm not completely certain the thing would even go in gear. And you KNOW that's a $3K fix somehow. I had such a bad experience with every gadget on that ****ing Ford failing that I decided that I would get the warranty to make sure I could always just fix that crap until the truck was old enough that I didn't care anymore. There's just too much whiz/bang stuff on modern pickup trucks. |

I had a 15 Silverado that was probably about right on tech. It was damned reliable and still had bluetooth to my phone (I've met my lifetime quota for radio...Seriously. Never again). Unfortunately some jackass ran a stop sign and TBoned my ass in it. But even then it had a steering position sensor that went out right as I was turning out in front of a semi. I had the situational awareness to straighten it back out and worry about the turn later, but it wasn't the best time. But I'll take that over the junk I grew up on. ****ing carbeurators and chokes and dog shit. And GOD ****ING FORBID I ever run a set of goddamned points ever again. I'm pretty handy, but I need pickups (especially since they don't make money) to just run. Technology is good when it adds functionality or reliability, but there is certainly a limit. |

As far as the 992, i have no idea man. We do very niche, specific work here. 64-73 Mustangs. You can ask me ANYTHING about a classic Mustang. Newer cars though? No clue, lol. |

***Official Car and Gearhead Thread***
Got myself a new ride. Wife and I are adding to the family and we were gonna buy another SUV, but I lobbied for a much more practical vehicle of course.
'21 Bighorn. Not the top trim but definitely the top of what I wanted to spend! **** these things are expensive anymore. This truck is so damn nice to drive. Maybe some day I'll go after a Limited or Rebel trim when I want to drop more money because Ram did a lot right with this vehicle. I did read DJLN posts in this thread when I was trying to parse down how interested I was in a Ram, so shoutout there for sure. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...930264d762.jpg |

New shackles, leafs, shocks and a power steering kit on order. It’s finally mostly road worthy. And is ridiculously high geared in first gear with the 3 speed. Looking at 4 speed swap or really leaning towards an nv4500 Gm trans for a lower first gear and some longer legs.
Also took a rear leaf out because the back looked too high and it rode like a lumber wagon. |

Man I forgot about all the cool stuff here.
Speaking of, I did a whole host of upgrades over the winter.. new lip, sideskirts, rear skirts, headlights, fogs, tails. Went from leaf spring suspension to full blown coilovers, and the biggest thing, a set of custom specced BCforged wheels wrapped in brand new nittos~ https://i.imgur.com/KLYpDgB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/iRpA2tD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XH50JIQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SbI2hdT.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7T4RU74.jpg |

Got my 992 wrapped last year by Wrap Effects in KC. KPMF Phantom Black. Performance tune: stage 1 by M-Engineering; brings it to a bit over 600bhp. I need to dyno it to get actuals. Inaccurate (phone-based) 0-60 sub 3.0; on track it feels like it is glued to the asphalt. Unreal grip. I absolutely love this car! |

A few months ago I got messed up, browsed Facebook Marketplace, and ended up with a 2003 Lincoln Town Car limo. One of my employees/friends enjoys driving us around so we do a lot of nights out with friends and family. We used it enough that I decided to upgrade. Went to Colorado last week and brought home this 2014 Chrysler 300. Holy shit it's nice. This is the way to go out for an evening!

I traded in my 21 TRX for a 23 yesterday. Not a whole lot of difference other than color, wireless Apple Carplay, and more years of warranty coverage.

Question - I am spending some money on upgrading a 2009 Audi A4 with 138k miles. Bought the car to be a daily driver but have been having fun making it a little more sporty. Got a tune done to it, have replaced all the broken interior trim and I’m toying with the idea of adding some magnaflow cat back exhaust. Never done that to any of my vehicles. Just looking for opinions as to worth it or not for a little extra HP and street noise.

If it is a 2.0T a performance downpipe with the exhaust upgrade would get you a little gain. Is is worth it? That is up to what you are willing to spend. There might even be some larger turbos available but still, it is still an 2.0 liter.

Likewise it was a true Australian Ford Falcon, not sure what it had for an engine but it was a Ford V-8. His "blower" was also there for looks only and was spun by an electric motor he could turn on and off from the driver's seat. <a href="https://ibb.co/KLQyXfw"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/D86Ktvp/DSCF6507.jpg" alt="DSCF6507" border="0"></a> <a href="https://ibb.co/GFGy4CV"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/x3wWtzM/DSCF6508.jpg" alt="DSCF6508" border="0"></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='https://imgbb.com/'>photo uploader</a><br /> |

So what's the deal with Jaguar cars? I read somewhere that they lose 60% of their value within the first 5 years. So I started looking at listings and found some interesting ones.
Here's a 2016 Jaguar XF with 60k miles for $19k. This car has a V-6 with a small supercharger and puts 340 horsepower. I didn't know Jaguars had that type of engine. From what I can tell this car was $50k+ when new. I realize it's 7 years old so of course it's gone down in value but why do they lose value so quickly, is it cost to maintain/repair? https://www.edmunds.com/jaguar/xf/20...03/?radius=200 |

Is it possible to add a remote start to a 2017 Ford Explorer? Its so freakin hot in Texas and I don't want my wife and kids to shrivel up |

For example, my bro in law bought a fully loaded AMG Mercedes coupe. Factory body kit, big ass Brimbo brakes, 6.2L V8 (iirc). He paid $14K for it. 9 Years ago it was a $120,000 car. Granted, it's salvage titled, but still..... |
Quote:
1. Make sure it's legal to install in your state 2. You only want to put a remote start in automatic trans cars. Never, ever in a manual. If you checked off both boxes, you're good to go. https://www.viper.com/car/remotestart/ |
I'm going to put an ls in my s10.

We've professionally Ceramic Clear coated an entire Mustang once. With the idea to preserve the original paint. We'll apply a professional ceramic clear coat to polished aluminum rims, for customers, as it negates the need for them to ever have to re-polish them. If you've ever owned polished aluminum rims you probably know they have to be re-polished somewhat frequently if the car is driven often. Ceramic coating them preserves the finish. |
