Disagree. If you know the cases of infections are rising then you have more testing available to the general public. How are you defining "testing" ?

Asymptomatic thinking you might have Covid or after you display symptoms? Because I assure you the first two months of this virus, you could not just casually walk into an urgent care clinic and get tested for it. No testing readily available for the general public because this virus had not been seen before. Now you can and why there are many more infections reported.

And let's not forget the Chinese who IMHO purposely created and allowed this virus to be released all over the world with us in their crosshairs, starting this virus back in the fall of 19 not saying a word allowing hundreds of flights coming to America until known and confronted by our govt in late Jan/Feb of 20. That didn't help matters either.

But wait, we won't be able to do that so easily because all deaths now in hospitals and nursing homes are classified as C-19. It will take time for sure to sort this all out BUT dollars to donuts the real C-19 death stats(C-19 only, no pre-existing health conditions) will not be anymore than the flu.;)

The European data for excess mortality points to Covid 19 as a bit worse than the most recent bad flu season of 2017-2018.

I'd say DC, but that might be a little too high brow for him.

How are we 4 months into this and people still don't understand that IFR for young, healthy people isn't, and never was, the concern.

Wrong. People had no idea what to expect for some time.

It's not wrong at all. We had data in early March that young people were dying at much lower rates than the elderly.

We only had 6 deaths as of March 15th.

Weekly / March 27, 2020 / 69(12);343-346

On March 18, 2020, this report was posted online as an MMWR Early Release.

CDC COVID-19 Response Team (View author affiliations)

Summary
What is already known about this topic?

Early data from China suggest that a majority of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths have occurred among adults aged ≥60 years and among persons with serious underlying health conditions.

What is added by this report?

This first preliminary description of outcomes among patients with COVID-19 in the United States indicates that fatality was highest in persons aged ≥85, ranging from 10% to 27%, followed by 3% to 11% among persons aged 65–84 years, 1% to 3% among persons aged 55-64 years, <1% among persons aged 20–54 years, and no fatalities among persons aged ≤19 years.

What are the implications for public health practice?

COVID-19 can result in severe disease, including hospitalization, admission to an intensive care unit, and death, especially among older adults. Everyone can take actions, such as social distancing, to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect older adults from severe illness.

"Early data from China*"

LMAO Nobody bought anything they were selling. The country was in a full blown panic and many STILL don't understand the difference in risk among age groups.

You mean that early data that has been proven accurate world-wide? And I guess you missed this?

I understand you have an agenda, but you look really foolish.

With America shutting down in March, let's now pretend people and the media didn't latch onto that... JFC. LMAO

Well, it seems like our policy is based on a one-size-fits all approach. Instead of locking down the young and healthy we should protect the vulnerable the best we can and move on with our lives.

So your saying some should stay home, get paid and others go to work and help pay for them to stay home. Good luck selling that plan.

I like that idea a whole lot better than the ridiculous concept of making 5 year old kids wear masks in schools in an attempt to destroy another year of their education.

Anyone that has or had kids or knows someone with kids that age can tell you there is no chance to practice social distancing, wear a mask or wash their hands properly with kids that age. Now your immediately exposing the teacher, janitorial staff other workers at the school. And their grandma when they bring that crap home.

I'm still obese, have high blood pressure, 60 years old. I've not had a cold/flu type illness in 2.5 years. Not a single day. No temp. Nada. Correlates when I started exercising and lost 100lbs. You think I'll have the same results if I get Covid? I'd rather not take that chance.
