Speaking to the verisimilitude of WA movies, I like that his visual style reveals worlds very foreign to mine that I still get a sense of nostalgia.

The best analogy I can make is, I was a pretty misbehaving toddler/child, so around the holidays, I'd get in trouble and my punishment was I didn't get to watch the Rankin-Bass/Charlie Brown holiday specials. Then when I got to school, mom gave the TV to goodwill. But I share in my generation's nostalgia for those specials nonetheless.

So yes, MRK's depiction of scouting bears no resemblance to mine, but it somehow still looks like one I would have enjoyed in that family/cultural situation.

Basically his wife didn't believe he had the condition and tests him with the insulin injection and dies. (Shades of Inception). However Guy Pearce is convinced there is still a killer out there and eventually does track one down. But he ends up forgetting this as well and still is obsessed on finding the killer. Joey Pants basically takes advantage of his condition by leading him on. Pearce figures this out and tricks himself into thinking that Pants is the killer when he starts remembering again. That's a pretty rudimentary explanation.

Also, during one of his flashbacks, for a couple of frames, Pearce is the bald guy with the same condition. *Shades of FIght Club* So you are correct on how his wife dies.

Deliver us from Evil (an absolutely spooky but well done piece on a pedophile priest)
Food, Inc. (I've heard mixed reaction based on your opinion about how food is made)
Select 30 for 30's
Hoop Dreams (oldie but a goodie)
The Thin Blue Line (same... oldie but a classic)
Bully (pretty well known documentary following the lives of kids who are bullied)
Restrepo (war documentary)
Dear Zachary (some like it, some think the creator has a bit of an agenda he's pushing)
Best Worst Movie (documentary about the making of Troll 2, generally believed to be the worst movie ever made)
Jiro Dreams of Sushi
Undefeated (inspirational football movie)

Some good ones not on Instant too. My favorite was "God Grew Tired of us." Really good documentary about the Lost Boys of Sudan

Read some online views on this. There are a million different layers that go on with the movie. It's also interesting to watch if you skip around in the exact order.

More importantly, Christopher Nolan has a TON of easter eggs in here. For example... there is a really, really quick flash where Sammy Jankis is sitting in a chair and you see Guy Pearce sitting in the chair. Another where Guy Pearce has a tattoo very early on that shows he knew all along. Kind of fun to rewatch when you remember these subtle things.

Contracts. Any actors first contract usually has a multi-picture obligation and if they hit big with something else with a ton of work left on the obligation meter, it is better to knock the shit out in a hurry. Those crap movies shoot in about 3 weeks and have very little required in terms of promotional needs to take up their now very valuable time. It is just a way for the people that gave the kid the break to reap some benefit of the stardom. Is it fair, maybe, maybe not.

I wouldn't go as far as call her performances weak but people fawn over Jennifer Lawrence like she's a young Meryl Streep. She's not.

HATES was filmed a couple of years before and finally released after she became a hit. The Devil You Know was filmed in 2005 and only released in 2013.

Anybody that actually watched American Hustle and thought Lawrence deserved shit for her role is delusional.

I get that she's the "it" girl and I like her well enough, but there was nothing about her performance that suggested it was Oscar worthy.

I haven't seen her in American Hustle.

I wasn't a big fan of Silver Linings Playbook. But not sure how you can walk out of that movie and not think she was absolutely convincingly batshit crazy. Contrast that with Winter's Bone where she plays a really subdued character. Nice to see an up and coming actress with that kind of range.

I think what I've liked about her so far is there are no gimmicks. It feels effortless. Maybe that's why her acting can seem too simple for some.

I really enjoyed her in Winter's Bone. Thought she did well in that. But I honestly thought her role in Silver Linings Playbook was unconvincing.

She does seem very honest about herself. I want to hump her in real life, and think she'd be one of very few celebs that would be really fun to hang out with. I get that she puts a lot into her characters. I just thought that SLP and American Hustle were 2 of her weakest roles.
