I didn’t like the playoff thing either. I’ve been watching formula one and a little Indy car the last couple of years. I’ve been more into those series

Demonpenz 02-16-2020 03:46 PM

Indycar has been really really good. Penske buying IMS is going to pump it up better. f1 is f1. The playoffs are dumb but I guess nascar knows what they are doing.

This race will conclude tomorrow

backinblack 02-16-2020 04:07 PM

They removed 50,000 seats a few years ago as part of their "Dayton Rising" project. It should have been called "Daytona Downsizing". STAGE racing pissed off the majority of the DIE HARD NASCAR fans. The Point system is lame and the CHASE Playoff system is stupid. If it works don't fix it. NASCAR is paying the price for tweaking with a product that worked. Throwing a Checkered/yellow after a STAGE? It's nothing more than a mandatory caution period. Five laps of caution for what? That's 10 laps of needless (non-racing) caution per race. These laps shouldn't even be counted but they are. NASCAR over thought themselves. A GENERAL ADMISSION ticket to this years Daytona 500 costs $200.00!!

I thought that when they did their renovations they increased the size of all seats, so you're going to lose some seats right there. And wasn't the general disrepair the backstretch seats part of the issue? Something about how they were the worst seats in the house?

And what about five straight years of completely packed seats is bad? Never mind that thousands of people show up to watch outside of the general admissions. Last time I paid any attention to the actual numbers I remember they said that over 170,000 fans were at the race, but the stands only held 146,000 people.

Uh, Daddy stopped 'racing' in 2001...Rusty in 2003 and Gordon in 2015...so when exactly did you stop watching? That's a 15 year spread.

LiveSteam 02-16-2020 04:38 PM

I never started watching..

The Daytona Speedway now has about 100,000 reserved seats. I'm not saying a packed "SOLD OUT" Daytona 500 is bad. I'm saying their point system and their STAGE racing is.

Okay, you don't like the point system/playoffs/stages. Fine, I admit I'm not that into a lot of that myself.

But why does that mean you have to shit on the race itself? It's still Daytona, and that's still the best race of the year. Or it would be if they ever restarted the thing . . .

What did I say that triggered you? I just stated why NASCAR is not that healthy of a series anymore. I have been to many NASCAR races but none since they changed the playoff/point system (THE CHASE) and installed STAGES within the race. I tuned in today to watch it and I will watch it tomorrow. Outside of DAYTONA tracks that host NASCAR just don't draw the fans it once did. Even CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY which is owned by International Speedway Corp. has removed large sections of grandstands. Somebody posted that there was a lot of empty seats today and I responded by saying it was reported to be a "SELL OUT". How is that S'ing on the race? I'll bet you a King Cyrus/TRUMP/Temple coin The Don doesn't attend the restart tomorrow.

KCTitus 02-16-2020 07:30 PM

superspeedways are the absolute worst in nascar racing...if either of you remember the whole tandem racing on the superspeedways, it's basically become a 3 lap wreckfest and some random person wins the race or the leader leads them single file, like a parade, for 250 laps.

This is NOT racing...racing was done on the beach, on tracks that had character and the france family in their greed ****ing ruined a good thing. All of the nonsense that surrounds Daytona is just that nonsense.

If you want your biggest race to be the first, then **** all the stage and playoff bullshit. Restrictor plates ruined the superspeedways in the 80's and it's only gotten worse with every stupid alteration to the cars since.

It's a dead series that is on borrowed time...there's not a single track that is even close to selling out and many tracks have been aggressively removing seats. Bristol is still the palace it once was, but Richmond removed their entire back stretch -- nearly a third of their seats and neither can come even close to selling out.
