It’s remarkable.

Guys like Jeff Withey made significant improvements in their time at Kansas, but I can’t remember a guy radically changing the way he plays the game like Braun.

I was worried Braun was going to be Brannen Greene. Camp on the arch and wait to shoot 3’s. If he’s missing shots, he’s worthless.

Braun’s aggressive driving offensive game also looks like it’s carried over to his focus on defense and the boards.

Jalen Wilson on the other hand…

39.6% from the field
35.7% from the stripe
11.8% from 3

As impressive as Braun has been, Wilson has been equally disappointing

I can think of two in the same season with turnarounds like Braun - Jeff Withey and Tyshawn Taylor.

Withey was AWFUL when he first transferred, then became the one of the best defensive bigs in the country. Taylor was a non-factor (at best) and a headache (at worst) his first 3 years before becoming a great driving PG his senior year.

Wasn't Malik Newman a pretty big disappointment before becoming one of the biggest reasons we went to the F4?

Jeff Graves perhaps?

Maybe Darnell Jackson

Withey only played 207 minutes combined in his first two years at KU, but he was firmly behind guys like Aldrich, the Morris brothers, and TRob for that time. It's possible that he could have been good in those years if he had the opportunity but we never got the chance to see. Not quite comparable to Christian Braun's 1600 minutes in his first two years where he was completely mediocre.

Tyshawn Taylor definitely took a big jump in productivity in his final year, but he was honestly pretty good throughout his entire career (for instance, he was a starter on the 2010 KU team that may have been Self's best since the 2008 team): https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...-taylor-1.html

Malik Newman is a pretty good example as far as in-season improvement. Look how good his 2nd half was: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...1/gamelog/2018

That 32 point, five three, 11 FT effort against Duke was epic.

Braun had a .137 WS/48 and 6.3 BPM last year. He is .284 WS/48 and 13.7 BPM this year (which leads the B12 and is 8th in the NCAA). 72% on 2s compared to 45% last year. His distance shooting has stayed mostly the same, but he seemingly somehow became a completely different player over the summer with an ability to cut/drive/finish at the rim as good as anybody in the NCAA.

Braun reminds me of a slightly shorter Sam Dekker from Wisconsin a few years back

One of my all time favorite performances by a Jayhawk.

All positive intentions to former KU and New Mexico player Gethro Muscadin... sounds like this was a bad car accident.

https://247sports.com/college/kansas...MWuhwfgJNUcs10

Former Kansas and New Mexico forward Gethro Muscadin was involved in a serious car accident Wednesday.

“Please pray for Gethro Muscadin,” New Mexico coach Richard Pitino wrote. “He’s fighting for his life after a horrible car accident last night. Every prayer matters right now. So tragic and devastating.”

Muscadin had played in 12 games (nine starts) for New Mexico this year after transferring from Kansas. He averaged 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Muscadin had racked up two double-doubles this year. But he recently left the New Mexico program.

That's why I would never, ever consider living in Canada. As a matter of fact, I have thought about moving to Florida. I am not a fan of the cold.

As for new years day, there is also the very real possibility that I'm hungover. So, probably not going to the game.

Of course, I say that I hate the cold weather but I still go to chiefs games. /shrug

No Remy Martin today. Shouldn’t need him.

BigRedChief 01-01-2022 04:24 PM

McCormick may be the more superior in natural talent and ability but having Lightfoot in there, it seems to me anyway, makes KU a better team.
