Yup

Sassy Squatch 04-03-2024 09:04 AM

Wouldn't surprise me if the Chiefs and Wyandotte already have the basic framework of a proposal in place.

Nah they will let them compete in Nashville, they probably won't win a Championship but they will be like Minnesota and Cleveland.

Wyandotte and the legends tick a large number of boxes.

It's awful...the anchor tenant is a furniture store. It is not an entertainment district that would draw out of town fans. The raceway attracts people 2-3x/ year? Sporting plays 2-3x a month for 8-9 months? They have trouble keeping restaurants staffed due to the uneven traffic, and those are mostly terrible chains. The only plan for the empty husk Cerner building is senior living! It only checks the parking space box, the rest is barely an improvement over the existing due to the location.

The Chiefs will re-brand and its easier to do in Kansas.

No 3-peat. Dynasty over.

No way the NFL does KC and Clark any favours now. Taylor Swift can't even save them. Embarrassing that Jackson county is chasing away the golden goose.

The real 'bad guys' in all this are the folks that ran the county and business leaders in/around Independence. I mean it's not like the Legends sprang up from some hotbed of economic activity. Folks grabbed the wheel and made it happen.

Jackson County just never proactively worked towards developing that area. When the city was growing, it grew north and west. But it didn't HAVE to be that way. And the Truman complex was a natural focal point to create some gravitational pull and bring that growth that direction.

City/county leaders simply failed. For decades. And now there's likely to be a reckoning.

Those stadiums have out lasted many from their time at the location. The whole reason they were able to come here in the first place was because of the cheap land.

If anything blame the Royals for staying during the downtown renaissance or repeatedly blowing through deadlines on this project. Hell they put out 2 renderings, one up north the other in the east village. Then a month before the freakin election they announce the Crossroads, Change the announcement that they will keep Oak St open when early voting already started, Some group that was pro "Yes" sending out a mailer to a county that's probably 60% Democrat saying how the left wants to take away your stadiums, and on the day of the election come to an agreement with the Crossroads community.

Axiom Strategies should be fired into the sun

You can't build a viable "entertainment district" when your anchor has 10 events and maybe a few concerts /yr. You need young people with money and a lot more than a few outlet stores and a water park mostly famous for a decapitation.

Nah.

Something doesn't lose by 16 points on a single issue. There was no 'mainly' shot down here.

This was shot down across the board. It was a bloody massacre because it failed to reach Jackson County voters on basically any level at all. They simply rejected it wholesale.

It was 'mainly shot down' because it was an ill-conceived cash grab and a lazy effort by the people seeking it to leverage goodwill from the SB run(s) to get a blank check.

Either team could likely get something done. But this attempt was pretty much the worst of all possible worlds once Clark saw it as an opportunity to get something for nothing.

You are asking the poor and middle class to fund billionaires vanity projects.

What I heard from my friends in KC was they were upset that it seemed a plan to make game day better for the rich. All those middle class people saw the Chiefs wanted to build a road so the rich wont have to wait in line to get in and out? The middle class who have filled that stadium for decades, they can wait in line.

Yeah they just build a casino and are putting in a Lego themed amusement park and a Margaritaville because that area is STRUGGLING!

Just say you are terrified of the thought of spending your money in Kansas. Be honest with the class.
