Since 2018, one criterion for determining selection to the NCAA Tournament has been performance against certain RPI quadrants. Typically, a quadrant 1 win is considered a "good win", while a quadrant 4 loss is considered a "bad loss". The quadrants are defined as follows:

Quadrant 1: Home games vs. RPI teams ranked in the top 30; neutral games vs. 1-50; away games vs. 1-75.
Quadrant 2: Home vs. 31-75 teams; neutral vs. 51-100; away vs. 76-135.
Quadrant 3: Home vs. 76-160 teams; neutral vs. 101-200; away vs. 136-240.
Quadrant 4: Home vs. 161-plus teams; neutral vs. 201-plus; away vs. 241-plus.[8]
The quadrant system is still in use under the new NET system, with RPI ranking replaced by NET ranking.

There's a potential national title at stake, so yes. He may be pressured into disciplining Miller now though (because apparently the cops/lawyers involved didn't think bringing a murder weapon to the scene of a crime on request from the murderer was worthy of any kind of charge).

Why should Miller be charged? It wasn’t his weapon and he didn’t fire it. What law did he break? In order to charge someone they need to be shown they participated knowingly in a crime.

Bringing a guy his gun when he asks for it isn’t a crime. What happens afterward isn’t Miller’s fault UNLESS he knew what the plan was.

I know you’re Canadian but ‘Murican law is clear

I'm no criminal lawyer, but this is certainly correct. Of course, I might suggest it might be a bit naïve to believe Miller had no idea about what the guy wanted to use the gun for.

So, I live in Tuscaloosa (quit PhD in Alabama and work remote) and this happened about 3-4 miles from were I live.

From my understanding, while I don't believe Miller did anything illegal regarding the gun, the one thing I do believe him culpable of is that his car blocked the car that the victim was in from leaving the street where the shooting transpired. If the street where this happened is where I think it is, there's a bunch of one way streets around where this street is and you'd have to be either stupid or intentional to block someone from leaving.

That may not be illegal, but if it was deliberate, I don't know if that's illegal, but still not good.

I also read that his car had a couple bullet holes in it too, but he didn’t report anything. Not sure how accurate that is.

As the famous line in Training Day says: “it’s not what you know it’s what you can prove”. This stuff is all circumstantial without Miller’s admission of guilt, or some very hard proof he was a co-conspirator. We aren’t charging people with major felonies for what we *think* could be possibly connected

Is it shady? IDK that, even. In any case Miller was not arrested nor charged by prosecutors so he should be allowed to play. Allowed full societal rights in fact.

Chiefspants 02-22-2023 11:11 AM

Is he more or less connected to the wrong place at the wrong time than Ray Lewis?

Prison Bitch 02-22-2023 11:29 AM

Kinda yeah. Since the cops couldn’t find lewis’ clothing or the knife they can’t charge him with anything. His buddies did buy a knife that week which implicated them but even then, you can’t charge for murder unless you’ve got clear evidence

Playing basketball for Alabama or even being enrolled at Alabama isn't a right... I'm sure they have their own code of conduct to consider that goes a step or three beyond "don't be charged with felony" and could be as broad as "don't get involved in stupid shit that could reflect poorly on Bama".

(not that I'm reading their code of conduct just to figure out if he's in violation of it)

Let me preface with that I'm not a lawyer.

I understand that Miller wasn't charged, and since he wasn't charged that means the prosecutors don't believe that they can show a jury that Miller did anything illegal beyond a reasonable doubt that he was guilty of violating any laws leading to a conviction.

However, playing basketball for Alabama isn't a right and it's a privilege. I'm not saying he should never play basketball again nor be forbade from normal societal rights. However, again, I believe Miller was at least culpable for promoting an unsafe situation in that he blocked that car that the victim was in. His car was hit by two bullets, I believe, as well. Players miss games all the time for missing curfew or breaking arbitrary team rules. You don't think Miller shouldn't miss any time or at least take time to learn why what he did was a poor decision?

Shit, this isn't even just applying to basketball, but to other sports as well. Alabama's (former) DC was arrested over the summer for a DUI and to my knowledge didn't miss any games. Mac Jones was arrested for a DUI and he, to my knowledge, didn't miss time either.

Prison Bitch 02-22-2023 12:00 PM

Well apparently the cops/lawyers involved in handing out charges here did. My suspicion would be the fact he is the most important player by far on a national championship favorite might have had something to do with their belief in his story.

It's nuts.

The Royals and KU won championships before I was 10, but from then until 2015 it was...
'01 Avalanche (but I was just getting into hockey, so not close to KU/Chiefs/Royals at the time)
'02 Avalanche WCF
'02 KU FF
'03 KU FF
'08 KU
'12 KU FF

And then...
'14 Royals WS
'15 Royals
'18 KU FF
'18 Chiefs AFCCG
'19 Chiefs
'20 Chiefs SB
'20 KU
'21 Chiefs AFCCG
'22 KU
'22 Avalanche
'22 Chiefs

...not even mad, Royals. Not even mad.

Down goes Virginia. Remember when I thought we would go undefeated entering the Austin, TX game? Looks to be likely. I hope that game is for an outright Big 12 title.

Prison Bitch 02-23-2023 09:27 AM

At the key moment, Miller blocked the driving lane, dished it off, and let his teammate fire away from short range.

The official scorer did not credit him with an assist however.

Not sure about that, but I do think they're overrated. 1-3 vs the top 25. Got destroyed by Uconn. Gave up 100 to Gonzaga. And then they got 30 balled by the weakest team in the Big 12. Also took them 4 OTs to get past a weak UNC team.

Aside from beating Houston, their OOC resume isn't impressive. And the SEC is weak.

According to Kenpom, they have an elite defense, but I don't see that. I think they're feasting on weak offenses. The legit teams seem to score on them without too much trouble. I also think they're playing a lot of poor defensive teams. They get wide open threes constantly.

Exactly where u at ku boys. I know for a fact that athletes do what they want, for a damn fact criminal shit in Lawrence. My daughters roommate was fn raped the night they had the natty celebration. I will leave it at that

Some still seem to have a grip on reality:

"Kansas ain’t going anywhere. They’re basically a 1 seed every year for 20 years with Self. The most consistently good team of the past 40 years or so"

I take it you may not buy this story then.

If there is video evidence corroborating his statements here then we have no reason to not believe it. Not saying Miller wasn't involved but if what the lawyer said is true then there is no reason to say it is not.

Sounds like the discussions about the Eagles leading up to the SB.

Tell that fool to provide proof or STFU. People say all kinds of BS on the internet. Doesn't make any of it true.

Lawyers say less than true things on behalf of their clients all the time. Kind of in their job description.

I'm still not buying he was clueless about what was going on after that text he got.

Love it when Kentucky, of all schools, becomes all high and mighty about paying players. LMAO

Yikes. Guess we're moving to "Lebron" basketball.

Quadrant 1: Home games vs. RPI teams ranked in the top 30; neutral games vs. 1-50; away games vs. 1-75.

Well Drew was actively whining about the refs publicly at half time.

It was pretty inexplicable. It might have very well vanquished their toughness.

They couldn’t do us a solid and at least make IT tired?

Took my son outside to play. Surprised to see the score of the Baylor Texas game.

Good thing no team closes out a game like Baylor. You aren’t coming back against them.

KC_Connection 02-25-2023 02:32 PM

UT is as rattled as any team I've seen since Baylor last week.
