Nobody wants to watch games with the backup unless it’s an Alex Smith/Mahomes situation, which is very rare.

I made the Gladiator comparison not as a one to one but as a modernized type of situation. They are slowly killing themselves in terms of their quality of life. The fans just want to be entertained and don't care about the player's well being, but the owners care more because that's their cash cow, so their health is slightly more important, but not by much.
