30-****ing-4.

Unbelievably sad. No cause of death yet. :(

Here's what I'm listening to right now as I'm re-stringing my brand new Gibson Flying V. :)

Pete Way died last week. :(

Since we are on music artists who passed on this week Justin Townes Earl died a few days ago. I enjoyed his music and song writing who I thought was better than Steve Earl his Dad. He suffered from addiction much like his father and his hero Townes Van Zandt. I suppose the drugs took him. I enjoyed listening to his songs on Red Dirt Radio and Outlaw Country. We lost a prolific songwriter.

Rolling on with Stones day, pt. 2 : Emotional Rescue, original pressing, RL cut at Sterling Sound. Possibly THE most underrated Stones album of all, lost between the 2 bona-fide classics released just before and after, but this one is also truly great...

"Don't you know promises were never meant to keep?
Just like the night, they dissolve off in sleep...
I'll be your savior, steadfast and true -
I'll come to your emotional rescue..."

For me it was the last truly inspired record from a mighty band.

Well, for awhile in the 80s, that was true...but Tattoo You is damn fine, especially "Slave" and side 2, plus the run from Voodoo Lounge through the present has been fantastic. VL, Bridges to Babylon, A Bigger Bang, and Blue & Lonesome are all top notch, plus the "Doom & Gloom" single, as well as the new/old Exile and Some Girls outtakes are all truly great. Looking forward to the Goat's Head Soup 4 LP set I preordered...

Tattoo You is near-great. If it had a ballsier blues number than Black Limousine it would tip. Forgot it came out after Emotional Rescue and not before. I haven't loved anything since those two, although Stripped is very good.

Belongs in the Win Thread in Pictures, but likely to get more looks here. Like his reverb choices, especially the echo-y acoustic early reminiscent of Legg.

Because Dirty Work and Steel Wheels were so limp, it turned a lot of people off, but Voodoo Lounge, A Bigger Bang, and Blue & Lonesome are all near-great, and Bridges to Babylon is extremely interesting if nothing else.

Hoping my 4LP Goat's Head Soup deluxe set shows up today...

Jesus Christ, this thing is an amazing soundtrack to math homework. The new mix is GREAT, the outtakes are PHENOMENAL...and the Brussels Affair is absolutely ESSENTIAL.

I'm watching live youtube videos of a band called Bones UK that someone told me I might like. They remind me a little of Eagles of Death Metal because many of their songs have a strong beat, heavy guitars and repetitive lyrics.

Yep. It's really hard anymore for good music to find you. Most of the broadcast and auto-streaming outlets are 100% pop music all the time.

You have to put effort into finding good music nowadays but there's some really great stuff out there if you look for it.

KCUnited 09-12-2020 01:40 PM

When you find something you like, note the record label that put it out then develop a list of labels you like/trust. Feel most independent labels will put out similar styles and sounds. Then block all your family and "friends" on social media and follow just the bands/labels and you'll always be in the know of what's new within the scope of what you've liked historically.

That's been my formula for 20+ years (sans the social media part).

Yep, I network with several smaller bands on FB and I've found a ton of interesting music that way. Speaking of bands I've networked with (and helped spread the word about) on social media, this is what I'm listening to right now...

No doubt there's a lot of late 90's, early 2000's metalcore that has aged terribly, but yesterday while roadtripping to STL in the wifes car I found an old cd book while getting gas at QuikTrip (y'all don't know how good you have it). I popped in Poison The Well - The Opposite of December and heartily jammed that mofo back home. Blast from my past.

Buehler445 10-14-2020 09:18 AM

I had a song come up on one of my streams that sounded really familiar. So I looked it up. Unwritten Law. Huh. That name sounds familiar. So I looked at their album and totally forgot I was pretty into their ELVA album for awhile. Goddamn, I'm getting to be an old man, totally forgot a band I used to like. I put it on and went down a little nostalgia trip for awhile. Some of it hasn't aged the best and is pretty late 90s (ahem - the phone messages - I have no idea why bands thought that was a good idea), but some it still sounds pretty good.

This is their big hit off that album that everybody knows
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Bgq77R0WbXs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This is probably my favorite song from that album. At least the one that sticks in my head.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GmmGHaO5kRI" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you've got kids, this one is a pretty good one.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TaRW0EKqCuA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This one is a pretty good listen if you're in the right mood. Has a little different sound.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6aswIbG94GU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

So the takeaway here is that. 1. I'm an old man. 2. Some of that late 90s stuff is still a good listen. 3. I'll leave this in the rotation awhile.

New instrumental NYHC project from Parris Mayhew (Cro-Mags). Songs are structured with a clear build up, feeling of arrival, and notable endings.

Vid is a little cheesy but this shit is wild

Most macho vocal performance in recent history...sounds like the smell of a biker bar.

Whats great(er) about Bongripper (name is a spoof off Sleep's Dopesmoker album) is that they're regular dudes with regular jobs who release all their own albums and sellout any shows they decide to play anywhere in the world. They've turned down every label that's approached them to do it their way.

I've been trying for months to get my stoner/doom project off the ground but between COVID and my drummer breaking his foot... :doh!:

He could be the short term stoner version of Rick Allen except with feet

Not what I was expecting to be sure but its kinda cool and happy, and daaang man poor Dave has lost his voice for good

I'll see you that, and match it with Coyote Shivers... it sums up my life, and our world in general extremely well

Gotta say I usually listen to your tunes even though I end up not enjoying quite a few of them. This shit slaps though. I listened through the first six minutes on my laptop speakers before my 4 year old made me turn it off.

When he and my wife go to sleep I'm gonna go back to this and get absolutely ripped.

I'll pull one out in your honor right now though:
