No kidding brah, I got my fishing liscence in March during the two weeks of 70's weather. Then it got cold again, then it went to 95-100+ for the last month. It's like God doesn't want me to fish LOL.

I can handle cold...but this heat is just too much. I've had some of my best fishing days in the cold. In fact, I caught quite a few trout on Christmas day last year.

Dude if your wife is going to be a nurse, she'll be working all kinds of weird shifts, giving you plenty of time to hit the water.

I got a "fly rod & reel" which I will be using for the first time this weekend. I hope that I don't hook myself doing that "fly-fishing" casting thing.

You might. I have a few times...well at least my shirt and hat. I haven't got any skin yet.

Anyone here ever fish in Stockton lake? We've pulled out a large mouth, a couple white bass and a bluegill, but generally haven't had a ton of luck.

Get it rigged up, fly line on the reel with some leader on the end of the line, and practice casting before you go out.

Down in Sea Grove Florida this week. Absolutely killing the lady fish from a sea kayak. Nice big ones.

Leader being the piece of line that attaches to the plastic stuff, yes?

Donger 07-27-2012 10:17 AM

Oh, and with fly fishing, do you just let the fly sit there and do you reel it in slowly?

It depends what and where you are fishing. Sometimes you will just let it sit and drift, sometimes you will kind of swing it in the current, sometimes you'll use a herky jerky retrieve. FYI - in fly fishing you usually retrieve line by just stripping it in with your hands. The reel is mainly used for fighting larger fish and holding line.

I've caught about a dozen white bass out of Stockton but nothing I'd go back for.

Yes, if you snap the end of the line without leader you’ll fray out the end of your fly line making it worthless.
