mahomes is in the sweetest zone we've ever seen him in...this is going to last for 4-5 games until someone throws something at him he hasn't seen, or we have a disastrous injury or something

then he'll adjust and go on another sick tear

The throw to Watson was a 45 yard flip of the wrist with his body contorted. Most D1 starting QBs would have to take and gather themselves for at least 3/4 of a second to have enough juice to make that throw.

if his momentum is going forward, there's no throw he can't make

Somehow, even more impressive, is that Watson kept running. He didn't stop to think, "Can Pat throw the ball THIS far?"

Instead, he kept running, full-speed and made the play.

That 2nd throw to Hardman is just a perfect example. Scanscanscan - DART.

Not sure he recognized that he had a blocker on that outside DB. Gotta figure he expected the CB to close off the sideline and he was just looking to bend and give himself space to make a move.

If he takes it to the sideline and the blocker isn't there, he's hemmed in with few options. At the catch, it looks like the DB has position on Hardman. But truth be told, he was pretty lazy there and let Hardman hook inside him and drive him out of the play.

I think I can see what he was thinking there. EDIT: From the end zone view there's another thought - think of how many times Kelce has cut against his momentum and left a dude holding his jock. He saw that guy in front of him and was maybe trying to do the same thing. He just didn't see James waiting to occupy that space.

O.city 09-20-2022 09:33 AM

The Ol is playing pretty well. Mahomes still needs to trust them more and stay in there. Give guys a chacne to get open.

That one was frustrating. Just keep running and he scores or at the very worst is inside the 2/3 yard line.

When you have that kind of natural velocity, you don't have to 'reach back' to sling it. So you can get it out quicker and since you're not at max effort, with more accuracy.

Never understood the 'arm strength is irrelevant' crowd. It's not dispositive, but having premier arm strength makes a LOT of things easier. It's not just about throwing it farther than anyone else, it's about throwing it easier.

Into smaller windows too. How anybody could watch Herbert or Allen (or Mahomes) and still think velocity doesn’t matter isn’t paying attention.

Absolutely. It would be ****ing devastating if you were playing defense against him.

More importantly is he does the release thing WITH the outside the pocket, off platform shit. You'd think you had this fool and WTF the ball is gone? ****.

It would suck to play against Mahomes. And I'm here for it. :D

that pass herbert threw across the field into the flat to ekeler, where gay missed the tackle...

if an average qb tries that, pick six

Pacheco absolutely blocks the shit out of the blitzer. It's not a stonewall or anything, but that's a really good block from a RB as long as Mahomes held that. It's not a super pretty pancake block, but goddamn son - Hat tip. No clue if he's getting the reads right, which is what will get Mahomes killed, but that is a hell of a block from a rookie RB.

Then it didn't affect the play but McKinnon is down there setting picks like a forward in basketball ROFL. But that's a really smart play if he can **** up a crosser while Mahomes is out doing Mahomes things, that can really impact a play, then releases to an open spot, that's a really smart play.

GODDAMN it's nice having smart players. I've wasted too goddamned much of my life watching dumb****s like those fielded by Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards. Coaching staff deserves prop.

I think this was the play where Mahomes in the post-game said they "got him" or whatever because he doesn't just "throw to guys".

I'm wondering how they tricked him there, because yeah.... that gets widw open.

Yeah - that's the one he was talking about.

But here's the thing: Huh?

Fine, lets assume for a moment you don't get caught on the drop zone and they play it 'conventionally'. Where you throwing? He said he was throwing to Kelce but that ball wouldn't have made it to Kelce's feet.

That play and the play to Fortson in the end zone were just so inexplicably bad. If PFF graded Mahomes poorly this week, he pretty much earned it. He did not play well on balance. A couple of spectacular throws and late in the game he was efficient, safe and smart - I'll give him that. But he tried to blow this game 3 times and got bailed out biggly.

It wasn't {half that will go unnamed} levels of bad, but it was real bad. It wasn't just Mahomes bad, it was Derek Carr bad. Which makes it Sam Darnold good, but I digress...

It was a rough outing.

Ah - I think I see what you're saying.

Kelce saw Samuel peel off so he flattened out his route hoping for a ball over the top. Mahomes didn't see Samuel come off so he threw the ball where he expected Kelce to be on a flatter simple slant.

Hmmm.....Okay. I can buy that. Makes a little bit of sense at that point. And so much of what they do is damn near telepathic that those sorts of improvised changes happen all the time and we just don't realize it because they're both on the same page.

Not sure, but just to be safe, stick it in your pants and tell anyone that asks that you are related to John Holmes.

O.city 09-20-2022 02:37 PM

I'm assuming Kelce bent that route deeper and Pat figured he was coming flatter.

But man, that's a rough throw either way.

He made a few good plays but we were back to the "not trusting the OL and or the WR's" Pat a little bit.

O.city 09-20-2022 02:39 PM

Either hang in there and hit JjSS over the middle or just check it down to CEH, take your 8 yards and move on.

When they get behind he just tends to start pressing so much.

Way too many throws into defenders' hands. He will need to be a hell of a lot better if this team wants to beat the likes of Buffalo.

I just re-watched it a few times, that seems exactly what happened. Kelce's route was supposed to go parallel but he broke it high when it got wide open, unforuntaly Mahomes didn't hold the ball like 1 second longer.

That said, I still don't know how Juju was that open with Mahomes staring at him and he didn't throw it.

Remember that dipshit DC that said Mahomes is a 1 read QB who plays streetball and will not last long?
Boy these gifs of street all sure are working aren’t they?

LMAO

yeah but his timing was perfect, and so was his accuracy

that's elite QB play, baby

marino used to **** us with throws like that

nothing you can do but tip your cap...velocity matters

ThaVirus 10-07-2022 06:27 PM

It worked out well because his ball placement was as good as it could have been given the coverage.

I just think a lob to the sideline to MVS would have been a better choice.

Hammock Parties 10-07-2022 06:29 PM

the rush was going to get there....in patrick i trust

ThaVirus 10-07-2022 06:33 PM

Nah, Mahomes could have thrown it at the same time. Hold the outside CB by staring down Kelce and starting the throwing motion, then lob it up to MVS who's coming out of his break.

Props to McKinnon, though. Him and Pacheco have been selling out their bodies to give Pat that extra second.

Can you imagine the humming sound of that ball as it goes by your ear?

Hammock Parties 10-07-2022 07:29 PM

patrick just flat out refused to throw balls like that at the end of the bengals game

worst case of the yips he's ever had

Halfcan 10-07-2022 07:57 PM

The Bucs game was one of Mahomes best- he was incredible.

underrated and not talked about enough.

It was an incredible play. I saw the fake throw then downfield and wondered--when did we learn that?

Hammock Parties 10-07-2022 09:24 PM

here's the thing about that play - they've run that pretty regularly since reid got here, even in the smith years

i would wager there's footage of smith hitting that play, or missing, or not being willing to throw into that window, one of those

i DON'T recall mahomes ever hitting it, and the reason why is tyreek hill...no one is biting on underneath stuff with hill on the field, it just wasn't in their best interests

but NOW...teams are defending us short to deep, because they don't respect MVS or Hardman, and that honestly is playing perfectly into Patrick's hands so far

MVS has been wide open three times this season for 25+ yard gains, and Mahomes has hit him twice

Hardman, thrice, and he made shitty catch attempts twice and Mahomes stopped trusting him after that (since he threw it to Watson instead)

you're also seeing Watson getting single coverage deep

the deep routes are now ALL open again in this offense because the threat that one will go to the house isn't quite there, and you're better off playing the percentages and trying to stop kelce and juju intermediate 90% of the time

BUT it's patrick freaking mahomes and he will eventually get deep

the Raiders are ****ing terrible on defense - they give up nearly 70 percent completions at 7.8 YPA - and I think the world is about to see Mahomes crank a couple deep and we're going to be back to seeing Cover 2 shells a hell of a lot here pretty soon

As long as Pat is not running for his life we should be able to do exploit any def they throw at us .

Clyde is falling to the ground and, yet, stays up long enough to get to the ball and catch it. Great play all around.

He's an all time great QB.

Pitt Gorilla 10-23-2022 07:50 PM

Kind of stinks that he under-threw MVS. If he hits him in stride, it's a walk-in TD.

Might have been a cautious underthrow after overthrowing him a couple of times this season.

A couple ~ 50 yd bombs to MVS. Very nice.

insanely good throw to hardman

KC utilized the sprint out plays to neutralize the SF pass rush. 1 with a massive cut block to give Mahomes an open window to get a throw off. Oh, and watch Trey Smith and Andrew Wylie neutralize some defender.
