And yet Canada outplayed them over the entirety of WC qualifying (including in the 2 head to head games), a tiny country in comparison with a fraction of the talent available. What does that say about USA soccer? LMAO

KC_Connection 06-18-2023 09:48 PM

USA has no business not being in the top 10 in the world with their talent level and you have people bragging because they were able to beat Canada for the first time in 3 matches. That may actually explain why/how Berhalter was able to hang on to his job going forward.

They're not that talented compared to the top countries. Not sure which players you're talking about. It gets even worse when comparing depth to the top soccer nations.

What is with the shield for the Canadian National Soccer teams? Looks like what you would expect for a U10 rec team.

Canada’s soccer program itself is what you’d expect from a U-10 rec team. It’s a miracle they’ve even gotten as far as they have with so little funding and such poor management. Their coach spent half his presser subtly trashing his employer after yesterday’s game.

They have enormous talent/depth compared to anyone else in CONCACAF at this point, such that they should easily be ranked in the top 10-15 in the world if they actually played to that level consistently.

CONCACAF has always been B-Tier. Being the best in North America doesn't mean much in soccer. The U.S. would be lucky to qualify for any World Cup in South America or Europe.

TambaBerry 06-19-2023 08:39 AM

I mean the US is ranked 13th in the world. That's pretty damn good to me. Also, in our region teams bunker it when they play us. I didn't watch much of Canada in qualifying but it's really hard to score when they're dropping 7 to 8 guys into the box when they play the US.

FIFA ranks the U.S. ahead of Germany. The Germans struggled in their last few tournaments but they're better than the U.S. team.

They also rank Belgium 4th, which is WAY too high for a team that never wins anything.

FIFA ranking are calculated from the game records over the previous 4 years. Impossible to be ranked if you never win anything.

I know how the rankings work. There's no reason Belgium should be ranked ahead of Croatia, who has outperformed them the last few tournaments. The ranking system needs to change.

My 10 year old daughter plays competitive soccer. We bought tickets to see the Current July 22nd. Stadium looks nice and doesn’t look like there’s a bad seat in the house. How’s the stadium? We’re in section 111 row 23. Should be out of the sun.

Hark Clunt 07-05-2023 04:20 PM

Was in STL for the Gold Cup match. The stadium is really nice, and I also do like the area around the stadium with all the old buildings. It’s definitely a better aesthetic than a shopping mall and racetrack, I’ll concede them that.

All that being said, I’m not giving them too much credit as a fanbase yet because MLS always has a “hot new club”. SKC was effectively this for a few seasons after the rebrand and opening of Sporting Park. Hell, I remember when Toronto was the Class of MLS or whatever. But it doesn't last. Give them a few bad years and the shine wears off, MLS media moves on to the new expansion etc.

You wont be disappointed. SKC Stadium was built in a way where regardless where you have a ticket at, its a good view and a fun time.

They will always be a center piece for MLS….except for the literal decades they were not and were relegated to jerking off to players from STL who had success for other cities.

The only reason KC got a team from the start of the MLS and St Louis didn't was all because of Lamar Hunt.

And the reason a bunch of other teams don’t have more wins is because of Patrick Mahomes.

Those teams don’t get to sit around calling themselves a centerpiece of the NFL.

St Louis was doing **** all while other communities were actually in reality building the domestic league. And good for them for getting to parachute in after more than 25 years and be a part of something that others built.

Not in the least.

STL was relegated to convincing people how important they were while other people were actually doing the work.

Like having Scott Gallagher around is equal to having domestic club and building the league.

You can bitch that Lamar benched the city but you can’t pretend the city wasn’t on the bench while others did the work. Talking up US Open Cup wins they were not alive for.

yeah this is my main gripe with their fanbase so far. the history of soccer in STL is kinda cool, but you cannot take credit for things your brand new team had nothing to do with.

congratulations on that catholic boys school beating a team from the northeast in the 1890s or whenever the ****. they probably won it by having the fewest players with polio. everyone else really wishes they had accomplishments like this, and totally thinks it reflects on your current team that's 4 months old.

Survived quite a scare from Canada. Busio had a really good game was worried the story was going to be the chances he did not capitalize on until he got the equalizer in stoppage time and had a perfect strike in PKs. Quite a day for him.

There are some exciting players with more potential than I can remember the USMNT ever having.

My biggest concern with Busio is that he is tiny. 145lb twig.

Cowell will be a monster if his game continues to improve.

I’ll always love Busio the SKC player, but he is not, at least right now, the future of the USMNT midfield. Cowell OTOH is probably gonna be special.

Panama went toe-to-toe with what was 9-time Concacaf Mexico, and Mexico got my them in the 87th minute, I'd say they might be better than "shit". We all know that nobody in the Concacaf can compete with European and South American national teams, but I'm not sure I agree that they are "shit".

Population size is a silly way to look at how talented a country should be athletically. India and China would win everything if that were the case.

It’s almost like it costs more to build a bunch of running tracks across a bunch of high schools all over the country than it does for smaller countries to throw a ball out into a field and play soccer.

Also, Jamaica is a tiny island with a minuscule population in comparison to us. Do you think our 3rd string track and field athletes would beat Jamaica’s 1st string track and field athletes?

Unlike Jamaica, the United States has its best athletes in football, basketball, baseball, etc. Track is just a high school spring activity for a blue chip football player.

Disappointing result. They looked like the better team for most of the match, but just couldn’t break through. Penalty losses are always tough, but when it’s by less than an inch like that too it’s even tougher to swallow. Morgan, Rapinoe, and Ertz had amazing careers and accomplishments. I think this World Cup and watching how much some of the other countries have closed the gap in play and equality has a lot to do with their accomplishments off the field as well. An Arab nation just had a bunch of women essentially send the German women home by knocking them out of group play. That would have never even been a dream 10 years ago. It’s great how much these players have accomplished and how many young girls they’ve inspired to do great things. Thanks for the trophies ladies!
