We’re gonna get one of these guys every year if we want to. Oh hey you were a highly regarded prospect with potential at one point but didn’t work out with your first and/or second team?

Come here for cheap where teams will always have to pass to keep up. You’ll get those sack numbers up and get a nice deal after a year for us while we get a comp pick.

Yep. Gonna get a lot of redemption projects.

Trubisky will be our backup QB soon.

Loved the signing when it happened, and love it even more now. Taco had played well for sure. Between him Danna and Sneed I can't get enough of watching our new defensive contributors. I really think we have something good in the making here with both our last picks of the 4th & 5th rounds. And I'd still like to see what we have in Niang & Keyes, I could see every pick we had in the 2020 draft being a starter for this team in 2 years.

St. Patty's Fire 10-02-2020 10:00 PM

The depth on our DL this year is nuts. Clark, Jones, Danna, Wharton, and Taco are about as deep as it gets. It’s ridiculous that this team is significantly better than last year. Veach is unfair

KPass, Pennel, Nnadi, Saunders.

DRM08 10-02-2020 10:09 PM

Veach and company are doing a hell of a job finding very effective players who don’t cost a fortune. If this trend continues, we could be looking at a Dynasty.

as far as I know there was only 1 surgery but I could be way off

sounds like he had his ankle scoped twice previously when in dallas

I’d like to bring him back and I’m sure he would like to come back too. He was as cheap as a rookie and brought value as depth.

Losing Tanoh and Okafor means we’ll need some depth

He absolutely should, he'd still be here contributing if not for the injury.

Now the opt-out players, I really hope they don't get a ring. Regardless of the legitimacy of their opt-out (I support LDT doing so), not a single one of them should have any part of a potential Super Bowl win this year.

There's no way they don't get one. Last year the Chiefs were even giving them to former players like Okoye. They aren't gonna snub LDT, who went to work in the medical field, or Damien, whose mom had cancer.

Even though I don't completely agree, I can get on board with those two to some degree. They weren't there fighting with their teammates this year, but you're right in that they have history and prior contributions.

But as much as I want Niang part of this team going forward, he deserves zero recognition for contributions to this team. And while we're at it, in training camp he should be the recipient of rookie hazing on steroids.

I don't know, but he'll get a ring as well. To the point of whether he deserves it or not - does it really matter? I guarantee that ring won't hold nearly the meaning for him that it would for a player who played on the team. (Even Taco)

Veach is on his game for sure. Every move like this helps open up the draft even more.

Ideally, we’ll sign Trent Williams too.

Then the draft is almost exclusively BPA with the ability to move up and target guys.

How does this open up the draft?

The dude is NEVER healthy. Ever.

He's a backup and one that can't even be depended upon.

This is a pure depth signing, they still sorely need a real DE.

Yep. Lots of mistakes when it come to DE's...Ingram would have helped and moving Jones to DE creates two weak spots at once.

srvy 09-21-2021 12:51 PM

It's looking that way. I just hope some are just getting used to Spags scheme. Yeah, probably not. The thing I don't get to this day is letting Tim Ward get poached. The only thing I can figure is they thought they had a lock on Ingram so they cleared some people to make room. The Dirty Birds swooped in maybe?

We could and as I said before last weeks debacle, we probably should.

This team doesn't have any natural DEs on it...well, other than Frank Clark. Who sucks.

You can't keep asking Danna and Wharton to do what they're doing.

I think this staff panicked and saw they didn’t have their bookend tackles or any of their OL heading into the offseason. They also saw they didn’t have LB talent either which was a huge problem.

They did a nice job attacking those holes but they definitely needed a pass rusher.

And sure Jarran Reed was a decent signing. He was good in Seattle. But we really need DE’s

Ingram's gonna be a pretty painful miss, it would appear.

Not sure what kind of impact he'd have made last week, but his athleticism couldn't have hurt. He just may not be more than a situational rusher for this team and maybe he wanted more snaps than that.

Hard to really know how that all went down.

Sassy Squatch 09-21-2021 01:42 PM

Looking at the EDGE guys that were realistically available in free agency and the contracts they signed not a single one looks all that appealing. Ingram was the exception and there was a reason he was available so late in the process but the fact it only took 4 million for the Steelers to sign him is pretty irritating. I'd love to know what we offered, if anything, or if the medical check killed our interest.

Sassy Squatch 09-21-2021 01:49 PM

Take that back. Reddick might've been nice but Arizona ****ed around with his position so much it's hard to tell what he'd actually offer as a full time DE. Early results in Carolina are really nice.....

Waaaaaaay too small, IMO.

Ingram is even a little on the slight side, but you could play him as a LEO and be okay w/ Clark in on running downs and/or kicked to the strong side w/ Jones inside.

But Reddick is a linebacker. I don't see him operating in-line on an even front.

Sure.

But who's the cavalry here? This is just a strict personnel issue that doesn't seem likely to miraculously resolve itself by week 10.

There's a roster gap that was largely of our own creation. We've done things like let Ogbah walk because we threw too much money at Okafor (and yes, Frank Clark). And no, Tim Ward is no sort of panacea, but how could you cut Charlton AND Ward and figure you're not going to have real troubles at DE?

I see and appreciate the plan at DB and LB - but what were they doing on the DL? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Sassy Squatch 09-21-2021 02:24 PM

Or it works out just fine against teams that aren't the #1 and #2 rushing attacks, but it's obvious they need another contingency plan at DE if/when we run into those teams again.

Frazod 09-21-2021 02:32 PM

He was probably watching the game thinking “the phone will be ringing soon.”

It's pretty damning that the Raiders pressured Jackson on over 50% of his dropbacks despite blitzing only a couple of times when compared to that disastrous performance our front put up.

KCUnited 09-21-2021 02:43 PM

The Jones thing is looking odder and odder. They really only had 1 priority in the offseason and that was rebuilding the Oline and now they appear to have over tinkered with something that really just needed some rotational and depth pieces until they could fully attack it in '22.

Talk of going back to the drawing board on defense heading into week 3, while props for the recognition that it ain't working, but woof.*

*nowhere near the panic button

Their DEs can actually get pressure.

Not saying Jones can’t because he can but it’s hard to bring pressure when you’re having to worry about the run every down.

BleedingRed 09-21-2021 03:12 PM
