FYI.... I would really recommend not doing that. Those pre-customized builds and shady addon sources are nothing but trouble. They use unstable code and undependable sources that don't autoupdate. I've followed KODI a long time now, and I can assure you that setups like this have the potential to do lots of negative things and cause problems that will plague your streaming experience. I can't tell you how many KODI setups I've had to erase and start over for friends who've done stuff like this. Learn how to install KODI, addons, and apps the safe and stable way. The info is here in this thread and other KODI related threads. Here's my recommended method for installing KODI on FireTV: https://www.tvaddons.ag/install-kodi-amazon-fire-tv/ Once KODI is installed, use Addon Installer for your addons: https://www.tvaddons.ag/addon-installer-kodi/ That will ensure you're using the correct vetted versions of both KODI and the addons themselves. Which is really important since these addons require such frequent updates. |
I'm pretty new to using Kodi but I keep trying to Dow load the Howard Stern addon and it will get to 2% downloaded and a dependency error will come up and won't it won't download. Is there anything to fix this?
|
|
|
No. Working fine.
|
It's not dead, and likely won't be anytime soon. The main developer got tired of being harassed by people having issues with their KODI setup, on top of having his code plagiarized by other developers, and said **** all y'all and bailed on development. But some other developer will pick it up and continue making the necessary updates.

Anyone here to help out a dummy?
I hooked up my Firestick and i have installed Kodi and the addon installer, but I cannot find any addons to install. Help a brother out! |

If you're desperate to watch stuff, here's how to manually install the Exodus repo and then the addon itself:
Navigate to System\Addons, then click Install from zip file. Click on Fusion. Click on kodi-repos. Click on English. Click on repository.exodus-1.0.1.zip. That will close that window and install the Exodus repo. Now click Install from repository. Click Exodus repository. Click Video Addons. Click Exodus. Install. Cheers. |
It's working for me. Been using it all morning.

I'll probably have more questions in time. We're giving this a trial run to to see if we want to cut the cord when our DirecTV contract ends next year.

has anyone else had this happen? i found an addon installed my kodi today. its called indigo. it self installed. not a fan of that.
found a little bit on here. Indigo "Most concerning might be that the add-on deletes add-ons from a “blocked” list which includes Hub Maintenance from XunityTalk, a fork add-on of a similar one by TVA. The timing of this is peculiar, after lambda recently retired after putting code into Exodus that used users to attack another Kodi repo and add-on without their permission." yikes. |

i havent found a way to uninstall indigo yet. as long as the exodus addon is 3.0.5 the ddos bot is gone. i dont have the old version of addon installer either.

What's the best add-on to watch live sports? |
Anyone having sportsdevil problems? None of the streams are working for ESPN (trying to watch the SEC BB tourney). Have the Feb 18 distro.
|
Give Phoenix a try?
|
I've had a lot of trial and error with sports streams. Phoenix was my best bet towards the end of the NFL season but that's the last I really tried them. Lot of back and forth with SportsDevil/ProSport earlier in the season.

The only addons that I've ever had success with are: Sportsdevil Exodus (Genesis befoer it). 1Channel (which I used prior to Genesis/Exodus being developed). USTVNow (no longer working for me, but did work for a while). Every other thing on Kodi.. and I mean every single other thing... is superfluous. Luckily, Exodus and Sportsdevil are enough, as anything else is basically nonfunctional for me. |
I miss Genesis, but Exodus works well.
|
it was my understanding that Exodus is an improved version of Genesis made by the same people.
I use Exodus almost exclusively for any non sport item. works absolutely great for me. I have learned though that I have better luck going after non-1080 / non-HD / non-SD items... I'll page down to the first stream listed with none of these and it always streams superbly (I think my wi-fi speed can't handle the good stuff as well) |
Kodi for Chromecast anyone?

Best add-on for the NCAA tournament?

Other options are Sportsdevil, Phoenix, NaviX might have it. The more popular the game, the better the odds. |

Fish, I wanted to take minute to thank you again for all your work in this thread. And the other "cut the cord"threads.
In the last 18 months I've had a great experience learning about the best way to stream and saving a metric ton of $ in my house. The ability to port it anywhere my business takes me is also a huge plus. I look back at the tvaddons forum and I feel bad for so many of the administrators. When I joined, I searched and searched any problems I had to find solutions. Reading it over the last 18 months and seeing how they handle the posters who can't find any traction, can't convey properly, I can understand why lambda called it quits. So thanks again, Fish. |

FYI... FireTV and stick owners....
There are now different versions of the Android KODI build. There's an ARMV7A(32-bit) and an ARMV8A(64-bit). For FireTV v1 and FireTV Stick, you'll use the 32-bit version. Fore FireTV v2, you'll use the 64-bit version. |
Which is the better one to buy? At this point to jailbreak it?
|
Quote:
It's just side loading. Not jailbreaking. Firestick is the best in my opinion. |

Thanks, that's all the push I need. |
Fish,
I set up a firestick for a friend and after about a week, he ran into a unique problem. It's an older firestick. Probably 2+ years old. Anyway, it worked perfectly well until this problem occurred: The home page wouldn't load. Not a huge problem, so he went to the applications function. Except the remote wouldn't open that function. It would roll over settings. I set it back to factory settings and started over. Same thing after a week. Home page wouldn't load and it wouldn't allow access to the applications function. I've googled it and searched through tv Addons without a solution. It's not a huge deal, but I love solving these little issues. In the meantime, I had him purchase a new one and loaded it for him, so all is good. Curious if you might have some insight on this. |

Fish, what do you think of the StreamSmart devices? I heard the don't use KODI but actually better as you can stream all live TV channels.
|
Quote:
It's just a fully loaded KODI box. It's running a forked version of KODI, which causes all kinds of problems down the road. They steal the open source version of KODI and tweak it with their own settings, which is a great way to break things when the KODI main branch is updated. They overcharge by hundreds of dollars, and give you roughly the same hardware you'd get with a FireTV. Their claim of free lifetime live TV is bullshit. They promise free TV, but they use a paid external service called ChannelUP TV. It's a paid pirate TV stream service. You're basically paying someone who's hosting pirated streams from others. The quality is rarely better than what you'd find with other free services. They make no guarantee of performance, and have no control over the sources at all. In addition, there's no guarantee that ChannelUp TV won't be shut down tomorrow, and you sure won't get any money back if that happens. These box sellers are absolute scammers. You will never receive all live TV channels for free. Live TV streaming is frustrating and unreliable, even with paid services like ChannelUP TV. Regardless, you can get the same ChannelUp TV on any device running KODI if you want to try that. It's not exclusive to StreamSmart devices. You can get a lifetime membership to ChannelUp for $149. Which is what you're paying for in the price of the StreamSmart devices. You're much better off just paying for your own membership to ChannelUp and buying a FireTV. But still, you'd be frustrated with the Live TV setup, I guarantee it. |
Im looking on getting an upgrade from Firestick to Firetv but I heard about this box called the standard inc box.
|
Quote:
What these box sellers do is sell you a pre-loaded box and give you shared credentials for a paid pirate streaming service. Then the performance becomes dependent on the number of streamers using that. The more popular that gets, the worse the streams become. They make all kinds of promises, and then you can't find a stream for what you're looking for, and realize that there's no way to even contact the seller other than their Facebook page. And you can't update the software yourself, because it's a 3rd party fork of KODI. Live streams in KODI require constant almost daily updates, to keep up with website providers' API hosting changes. These box sellers do not keep up with that. |

Has any of you heard of or tried the Entertainment Box T8 V? I read up and bought one. Paid $150 for it It came with a mini keyboard and remote. Looked like the best value for the money. This is my first time with a TV box of any kind so I wouls like some feedback and input on how to improve my experience. I am reading through this thread from the start and gaining lots of useful information. Here is a link to my box

Fish, you seem to be the expert in this equipment. Do you have any input for me? So far, all I have are 3rd grade insults from that brain dead neanderthal that goes by Jewish Rabbi.
