Deal!
Damn, think it was Panama! lol |
Bump to this.
Called those jack wagons two weeks ago and they said they wouldn't even give me half off this year like they always do. Guess I'll be more threatening next call. Tell them my wife wants us to be cord cutters but I need my Sunday football. |

So which country will be cheapest this year? Remember a few years ago when it was completely free for a few countries for the first 8 games or so?

What's the alternative if I can't get Sunday ticket? And no, I'm not going to a bar for every Chiefs game.

To me, it's worth every penny. |

The $270 ain't horrible I guess. I should just give the Chiefs up but I'd feel like I am missing something if I don't watch. |

I'm not a day drinker but I'd definitely order lunch and iced tea, which would run a minimum of $20 dollars with tip, so another $320 dollars. Plus, I'd have to get up earlier, shower and all that. Blech. I'd rather roll out of bed later on Sunday, make breakfast while watching the CBS pregame show, then sit in my favorite leather chair while watching on a 65" LED that I can pause and use the can. Heaven. :D |

I'm trying to figure out when to call in and try to get a discount. I called to cancel HBO and they didn't even ask why....just cancelled it.

The free/pirate options are legit quality these days though. Bandwidth has increased to the point where you can find a high quality stream for pretty much anything popular. NFL games are easy to stream in high quality, due to the limited number of them. You could install an app called Kodi on to your FireTV Stick, then install a Kodi plugin called ProSport and/or Castaway, and have access to almost all NFL games, including archived copies of the game to watch after it's been broadcast. The Kodi app ProSport works awesome for that. We have some threads in the media center discussing this, and you can always start a new thread asking to do whatever you're wanting. I'd be happy to tell you if it's possible, and if so how to do it. |

Since AT&T has owned them for a year now, how is this working out compared to recent years?

Ah, the ol' DTV dance. I'll call to cancel Sunday Ticket, they'll make me an offer, I'll haggle a little, then get it down $50 or $100 and say "I can do that". All the while I never was really going to cancel and of course they know that. Wait until April, rinse and repeat for Extra Innings.

Well if you're willing to pay $160, last year they offered a package to receive NFLST through your phone/tablet for $200. I used it for my iphone and it worked great. |
It's worth every penny at full cost. The money and effort to head to a sportbar is much more than that. It would be cool to have a cheaper single team or pay by game option.

It's been a few years since I've done this, but...
1. I'd wait until a little closer to the start of the season. Seems like most people get their discounts in August. 2. Make sure you're talking to the retention department. Their normal customer service reps don't have the power to offer big discounts, so they are the ones who will likely just cancel the service immediately. At the voice prompt, say "cancel service" (without specifying anything about NFLST) to hopefully get to retention immediately. 3. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. |

Chatting online with AT&T right now. More of a feeler to see what they're saying right now.

Oh shit. I may be ****ed then. Oh well, $270 it is. Not having it is not an option. |

I went with MLB.TV this year in the hopes of getting a good deal on the Sunday Ticket. I think there's about a 10% chance that it works but it was worth a shot (and less than half the price of Extra Innings, anyway). |
Having worked for AT&T for 7 years..good luck with your discounts. For a year or two they were really good about customer service, then they got their JD Power which was really all they cared about. After that they started tracking credits that reps gave and became the stingy uptight assholes they were to begin with

ATT sucks ****ing donkey dick. I'll be calling to cancel (for real) and I'll probably get a call the week the season starts to reactivate for free or a major discount. And if I don't, **** 'em. I should be getting a lot more KC games on my locals with those asshole Rams out of town.
|
Quote:
The Chargers and 49ers were broadcast nearly every week since the Rams moved to St. Louis (although more Rams games were broadcast during the 1999-2002 run). Occasionally, a Raiders game would be broadcast but they've been so bad for so long that it was just every once in a while. The national afternoon game of the week would sometimes supersede the Chargers or 49ers but that didn't happen all that often, either. |
I think when my contract is up we might cord cut. That's not for a year and a half though. I used to stream games back in 2011. They were terrible quality. Are they better today?

I read the last 4 pages here and about halfway thru was wondering "why the **** are they talking about paying for this, the Chiefs are on every sunday" then i remember "dumbshit, some of them live out of the viewing area".
It's been a long day. |

I have MLB.TV, which looks fine on mobile devices but not so fine on LED TV's. The action is often blurred and smeared for baseball games so I can't imagine tolerating it for football games and I have 225mbs internet speed. |

So anytime the Rams were at home, even thought the stadium was empty, enough tickets were sold to qualify as a sell out and games couldn't be showed on the CBS affiliate. |
Quote:
Plus, I like having the volume cranked on my subwoofer & soundbar in the family room, especially for the Prime Time games and the first game of the season. |
Quote:
I would imagine that Clark Hunt and the Chiefs would appeal to CBS and Fox to air the Chiefs games in St. Louis but they might override that desire from time to time. |
After chatting online with them.....I'm going to go ahead and say that it's not looking good right now. He couldn't offer me shit (mind you this wasn't retention) but my contract isn't up for another year and it would cost me $255 to cancel DirectTV right now. Looks like I'm going the way of the streams this year and I'll try again next year.
|
Quote:
I'm really not sure why we wouldn't get all of them, but I'm guessing we'll get whatever the "national" game is from time to time, especially if it involves teams like Chicago and Indy since they are close. |
Quote:
The bad thing is that you'll have to wait to see which region they give you each week. |
Quote:
I'm willing to take the chance. Should be playing more golf on Sunday's anyway. |
Quote:
The Chiefs games were LA local five times (Raiders, Chargers and Broncos) plus the London game, so it's a safe bet you'll get to see most of the games, if not all. |

On my larger TV's, I have to change the motion tracking. Otherwise, it's blurred and smeared. I've seen this same issue on other TV's as well. |

No issues with the 62 other channels I stream. In many cases, it looks better than Direct TV. |
Spent an hour on the phone with them yesterday. Got all the way to the point of setting up the DTV cancellation appointment. The couldn't give me ST for free, but they could give it to me for $99, and they'd credit my account $99. But they couldn't give me ST for free. LOL
So $20 off per month for 12 months, free ST this year, 1-year contract. Still paying more than I'd like, and it creeps up every year. |
So a question.... if I got my parent's DTV login (they live near Springfield), would I be able to watch their local broadcast of the Chiefs games through the DTV app?
|
Sounds like AT&T is a little harder to deal with. I may wait until August to take a run at them like DaFace suggested.

I went back and forth with retention and finally told the guy the only way I was staying was if I got ST for free. He came back with the $99 "deal," and I just said that wasn't good enough. He basically said that was all he could do right now, but I could call back and there may be other offers. I repeated it wasn't good enough, and if we didn't get this resolved today, we were done. He said that was all he could do, so I asked when was my billing cycle over. Aug. 11. I said, "So that gives me just under a month to find a new cable provider. Let's set up cancellation on Aug. 10." Then he put me on hold and came back with the $99 one-time bill credit. |
I still don't get why these companies can't negotiate with you in good faith. I don't want to ****ing haggle. Just give me your best price point and let me decide.
My 12 month cable contract expired and I got the new bill and called and had to waste like 20 minutes of my time to try and cancel the TV portion of my cable package. It starts out "There are no deals but look at all this value your TV package provides you," to which, I respond "Not $XXX per month in value, so cancel it." "Okay let me work my codes, oh I was able to get you a deal! 12 more months at exactly what you paid before." |
