I personally don't think you can or should hold a player hostage, it's a bad look and will actively make other players not want to play there.

I think that depends, depends on the player and your intention. I don't think you should franchise guys multiple times. If you're dispute is money that can be handled, if a guy frankly just doesn't wanna be there that is an issue.
