And that issue pretty much alone should keep him from being the manager of any ball club. He is going to blow our 3 best bullpen arms out just so we can get 60 wins.

What also pisses me off is that Greg Holland with damn near a 6 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP is 3rd in bullpen appearances and has the most saves on the team (7).

Mike Matheny was the absolute worst possible choice to manage this team at this time with all the young arms and young guys. I'm hoping Sherman has the nuts to shit can DM and Mike, but I'm really doubting it. At the very least he needs to force DMs hand and have him fire Matheny, because he's going to ruin arms and not give young guys the opportunity.

Why in the actual **** do you want to burn Barlow and Brentz, on a game that was clearly out of reach?

That just makes no sense at all.

Because one guy hadn't pitched since 8/11 when he threw 12 pitches to 3 batters, and the other since 8/10 when he threw 9 pitches to 3 batters. They pitch one inning. They aren't "burned." They'll be available tomorrow and probably the next day if "needed."

If they were always saved for games where we're leading in the 7th, they would hardly ever pitch.

The Royals now have the #3 farm system in baseball according to Baseball America.

This is why Dayton is not getting fired. Our farm system is doing well and is at least on the rise. Our top prospects are flat killing it, seems like the revamp of the hitting development in the minors has paid off. Obviously several talented young pitchers. On top of that the teams are actually playing well. Omaha's in first place. Quad Cities is completely dominating high-A and NW Arkansas at AA has a winning record and leads their league in run differential.

While the player development get A grades for turning around Pratto and Melendez, Erick Pena has been the disappointment in the system, hitting .190/.295/.352 with a 33.6% strikeout rate in the Arizona Complex League.

The good news is that he has an 11.5% walk rate, and development isn't linear. He's still only 18, but worth noting that 18-year-olds like Hedbert Perez, Reginald Preciado and Aeverson Arteaga are having their way with the league.

Yup.

If anything, "Promote" him a level, let someone else handle the GM duties.

Where did their mid-season top 100 prospect list have our guys?

You mean like what the Cardinals did with Mozeliak.

Gray: Nick Pratto just continues to rake. Do you now see a league average 1B there?
12:41
Kevin Goldstein: I think so. I like the power and the patience quite a bit, but it’s still a power > hit type of bat.

Chiefspants 08-16-2021 01:09 PM

Holland to the DL. That is now the second bullpen arm (after Zimmer) since Flanny’s tweet to watch the DL for bullpen arms in the second half due to Matheny’s pen management.

tk13 08-16-2021 01:15 PM

Yeah Holland looked gassed. Brentz and Barlow are probably the next ones to watch. Particularly Barlow since we've already put a ton of miles on his arm the last 3 years.

It'll be curious to watch for pitcher injuries anyway because of the short season last year.

Flip Melendez for Pratto and Kowar for Lynch.

Nice to see our minor league system rebound offensively. Sure, McConnell and some guys have been disappointing (mental issues I think) but alot to be excited about moving forward.

My new hero is Vinnie Pasquantino or whatever. Guy doesn't K, seems to have a good hit tool and above-avg power. May project as just AAAA guy but you never know. I love guys that can just hit a baseball without whiffing all the time and still have some power.
