Nashville, Portland, Salt Lake City, Charlotte or Raleigh… plenty of options available for the Royals if they are freed to leave with a No vote today.

BWillie 04-02-2024 12:24 PM

Are we even sure the Royals wanted this location over the other downtown location? It may have been the preferred location from city officials

You do realize today’s vote is just continuing the same 3/8-cent sales tax that those “billionaires” are already getting?

Small markets dont have a choice. It is the world we live in. Also gives the community pride and solidarity. A sense of togetherness instead of divisiveness which the world needs more and more everyday.

You think that these teams are just bluffing and they wont move.

Dumbass Chargers, Raiders and Rams fans thought the same shit.

It's ok Charger fans, we know you lost an NFL team and a 70,000 seat stadium, but here's the San Diego Loyal Soccer club and a 35K seat stadium in its place!

FloridaMan88 04-02-2024 12:35 PM

And the hilarity of people not wanting to keep an existing 3/8-cent sales tax in place… only to watch the Chiefs/Royals leave Jackson County… and take with them the revenue they generate for the county.

Not to mention having major professional sports teams is what differentiates KC from the likes of Wichita, Des Moines, Omaha, Louisville, etc.

A strange hill to die on… all to avoid keeping the exact same 3/8-cent sales tax in place.

BWillie 04-02-2024 12:36 PM

If anyone cares Oklahoma City just had a vote like this to give the Thunder a new stadium, even though their current one was built only 20 years ago. The Thunder were basically saying we're gonna move if you dont pay for the entire thing. (Or 95%+) and the vote passed rather easily.

KC isnt NY or LA or Chicago or Dallas. The owners of the team around here can, should, and can ask for the world. It would really be bad business not to.

ToxSocks 04-02-2024 12:50 PM

I'm not versed in what's going on with ya'lls stadium situation, but everything i've read so far is exactly like the situation in San Diego.

And the same arguments Mecca and Zach are making were also made here.

"We don't want to give money to billionaires".

You're focused on the wrong thing. Your tax money is going to billionaires regardless. This isn't about saving you tax money, fools. This is about which special project GETS your tax money.

You can bet your ass you will be paying that tax in something else.

In San Diego, politicians and non-sports fans aligned to lead the public to believe that the hotel tax that the Chargers wanted to fund the stadium was about billioniares.

That was a lie. It was about ANOTHER project those politicians wanted to fund. The Convention Center remodel.

In the end, San Diego said "No" to using that hotel tax to build a stadium. The Chargers left.

Later, the city approved a new hotel tax to fund the remodel of the Convention Center as they wanted to invest in keeping Comic-Con in town. New pedestrian bridges that no one wanted etc.

And you know what happened after that? Covid hit. And Comic-Con was basically canceled and reduced to a shell of its former self.

Take a ****ing history lesson, before you're doomed to repeat it.

Quit the bullshit, it's not about billionaires. It's about which special project you WILL eventually be paying for.

I voted yes.

It is not a perfect solution...but a no vote opens the door to the Chiefs and Royals leaving...and not just leaving for Kansas or North Kansas City.

Those who vote no are okay with KC being another Des Moines, Omaha or Little Rock. While there is nothing wrong with those places, they are not Major League cities.

KC is the smallest market with both an NFL and MLB franchise. This is a fair deal for Jackson County--and give how corrupt the legislature is, does anyone really think they would not figure out a way to get that sales tax money another way and use it for something stupid?

This is the golden era of Chiefs football...and we can gurantee the Chiefs being here for another 40 yes without increasing taxes? Seems like a no brainer to me.

More to it than that don't know the San Diego situation but this was rushed to the ballet with very little details and remember it has the Chiefs & Royals on it. This thing would fail easily if it were just the Royals on the ballot. The Royals were literally just throwing shit against the wall closer to the election because it wasn't looking good for this to pass. Neither of the teams are leaving if this particular vote fails what it will do is bring them back to the table and an actual plan will be hashed out. Blindly approving billions with a lack of a plan is a recipe for disaster.

You mentioned repeating history. Look into the Sprint Center/ P&L "We will get a team and it will pay for itself" boondoggle.

And Im glad they did PNL and the Sprint Center. It is one of the best projects KC has had. It puts Kansas City on the map. Downtown is light years better than it was in the 90s.

But it didn't pay for itself and 15 years later the city is still using funds to pay for it.

And with the Royals new park across the street it would make that area even better.

The attack is not impacting the Kansas City Board of Elections or the Jackson County Board of Elections, and voters will continue to be able to cast votes in the April 2 election.

Packed crowds every weekend.
Big 12 parties
Playoff watch parties
Super watch parties
World Cup watch parties
Concerts

T mobile always in the top 10 for busiest venues in the US

It’s not a failure because of that. And yes it did revitalize downtown

Yeah can say it’s failing because it’s losing money because of over rubs. Not because it’s not being used

But still vote no. I agree

The bolded cities are smaller, but do not have an MLB team. I thought Cincy was bigger if you included their entire metro area vs our entire metro area.

Either way, we are either the smallest or second smallest city that has both MLB and NFL.

Seriously? The T-Mobile Center has been a great success.

Enterprise Rental Car… which tried to defeat the arena vote 20 years ago is now bankrolling KC Tenants and other puppet groups to support Team No for today’s vote.

PNL is owned by Cordish(IIRC) out of Boston.

Voted yes. I know saving that 3/8 cents would have been life changing but I like having the chiefs and royals better.

Where the K is now is pretty-much KCK...

You aren't looking at the big picture though and just direct costs. I guarantee you visitors have a much favorable opinion of KC than they did decades ago in the 80s and 90s. That gets ppl to decide to visit, pursue careers here, spend money at other adjacent businesses when there are events. Its an entertainment district that is also a marketing concept to show off Kansas City to the world. It has been a huge success for KCs image overall. A small price to pay for such benefit.

The Royals will probably just leave if they don't get a new stadium. But if a team does move to the Legends that is a much much much better area than where the stadium complex is now. Its not even close.

RealSNR 04-02-2024 04:33 PM

Can we revive Glass from the dead and give the team back to him?
